Loved the video and masterfully done. Big Fan of the ARR Raider as it was my first. I have a NIB one and a restored Turbo Raider. Ah watching your video makes me want to run my Turbo Raider lol.... as always great work my friend. Can I post the link to your video up on my Facebook Group?

Thanks so much Ari! Your videos on the Raider were definitely a big part of the inspiration to pick one of these up! I was missing out as a kid...lol. It's such a great buggy that with a few mods.will bypass the "beginner buggy" tag for sure. Absolutely...I really appreciate your channel and the support! You rock brother!

I used to work at a large hobby shop in Silicon Valley in the 80's ...I didn't realize then how lucky I was to have been exposed to all the cars you feature on your channel. Even if it was just to get the customer the right spare parts. Keep up the good work, every video you do brings back fond memories of working at the RC parts counter.

Thanks so much my friend. It's neat to hear all of these cool RC related stories in the comments. Every time we post a new video...we get few good "back in the day stories" Rock on!

Oh man, after watching this I may need to bump my Raider runner up on the to-do list! I love the ARR graphics too, pure retro! Loved seeing it out on the track and it ran really well! Looks good, runs good and its a classic, not much more you can ask for!

My first RC was a Raider kit. I put in the oil filled shocks and ball bearings. With a slightly faster motor it really picks up. The shocks once adjusted are a game changer.

  • @yodadarksideGreenHawksRC
    @yodadarksideGreenHawksRC ปีที่แล้ว +1

Great video fella, you sum this little classic up so well! 👌
This car was the first Kyosho I ever experienced back around 1989.....
At the time I had a pumpkin and a 959, and my mate bought one of these to join me.
He bought it in kit form, and finished it in box art red!
I told him it wasn't as good as my Tamiyas, but very soon I had to eat my own words! 🤣
This thing outperformed my 959 in every way except speed (obviously due to the porsche running a technigold!)
The raider handled better both on and off road, jumped better, and was substantially tougher!
Our rc sessions always ended prematurely due to my 959 breaking, whilst his raider always kept running until The NICD's were flat! 🤣
As you say, such great value for money..... and it really did perform far better than what it should have done bearing in mind it's simplistic design and entry level price tag.
Loved the little nostalgic history intro, and great to see this total legend doing a few laps mate!
    👍 👍 👍

      @@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC
Cheers fella, I do wish kyosho would re re some of their entry level models.... I do love my Turbo optima re re, but would love to be able to build a new Raider exactly as it used to be!
I know the original ones are still about, but parts are very hard to find.
I know their differentials were a bit of a weak spot, and obviously 35 year old plastics do get very brittle.
When I restore vintage models they are generally for the shelf/very light runs.
It's always nice to get re releases to run as they were meant to be run, without the worry of some long since obsolete part failing!
But, it's great to see these legends still inspiring all of us big kids so many years down the line..... and your vintage one seemed to handle the jumps and vigour of track life exceedingly well!
Fair play for braving it for us all to enjoy bud. 😊
      👍 👍 👍

RC Car Action tried competing with one. They replaced the shocks and added ball bearings and it kept up with Ultimas and RC10's if I remember correctly, except for standstill launches. I have a Raider Pro, which is exactly the same except for a different body and wing mount.

I love my Turbo Raider.... the worst part is the steering setup. Got it for $100 back in the day and it has Kyosho Gold shocks. They are so light!
Now I run it brushless and it goes over 60 mph (if you can keep it on the ground).🤣

I remember mercilessly mocking my brother for buying a Raider. I was a hot-shoe driver who worked at a hobby shop (thought I was cool). But the thing was, his raider NEVER broke. And somehow all the bendy suspension parts worked fine. He would dog us with our RC-10s and Ultimas! LOL! We never admitted it tho....

Oh, wow! wonderful video :) I love these old 2wd cars from Kyosho, but it bothers me to know that there are almost no important spare parts available for these cars (there are some spare parts on eBay) with very high shipping costs. (I think that compared to Tamiya it is much easier to find parts (differentials, dogbones, spur gear, sprockets, transmission box) I currently have a Kyosho Axxe 2wd (I have only used it once with a stock engine, but I am afraid of breaking the transmission gears because they are very scarce! greetings friend😊😊

Thanks so much! It's definitely a struggle keeping them running...and yes with cars that have not been accurately re produced...the sourcing for replacement parts is quite the challenge.
I can only say that it's a definitely a hard decision to take these vintage buggies out on the track. Documenting their performance accurately is very important to me. This car doesn't have the proper rear wheels and tires...simply because I couldn't find them at a reasonable price...absolutely bugs me...lol.
