It did fairly well considering the old school friction dampers. Some oil filled will make it a ton easier to drive. I like the looks of it but like any of them some are more appealing than others, I kind of love them all! LOL!!!
i CAN TELL BY TH SLOW MOTIONThat this buggy goes where it is pointedI woulld iove to owm on. as for shocksI think the best dollar for dollar are ths Traxxas stock shocks. At $18 per pair they do not leackand are cosistantI've raced Losi and associated and the traxxas IMHO stand up well to both.. Thank you for your videos. I suffered a heart attack 5 months ago and you Ampro and Allens back yard have beenkeeping me in the RChabit..
Will be sure to check out those shocks my friend. Appreciate the support and glad we can provide some entertainment for you while you recover. RC has always been there for me (especially when the road was a bit rocky). Rock on and take care!
Those slowmo's really show how bad those friction shocks really are! I ran Losi shocks on my Astute, and liked a lot of rear toe in, front toe out. But I also run the battery length wise before the Super Astute came that way. I'd personally get a Super Astute over the original. The Super Astute has a stronger front bulkhead (I made my own out of nylon after breaking two), better gearbox and fixed rear toe. The toe on the original was mounted to metal brackets that always bent and the toe would change.
I have a Madcap which I bought used from a model shop in the early 90's. First things I did was to fit a Technigold and oil shocks. I still have it but it doesn't see much action these days, I'd rather bash up my WLToys cars, a lot cheaper to replace parts.
The slo-motion laps tell it all. The rear suspension in one lap looks like its yo-yoing as it tries to rebound in air. And in another slowed down lap the right looks like its hanging on for dear life.
The Madcap is an epic buggy 😍 I think that she's too powerful for the track, she needs a bigger track, it shows that shes got some absolutly amazing potential for long smooth jumps. cant wait to see the next episode.
Hi! That's my first time seeing how bad friction shocks are in the air in slow motion- wow- that's definitely a way to make a car unstable over jumps! ;) Personally always wanted an Astute too, & I'll go the same route as you eventually, I'll be following this one! :) Adaptor's needed obviously, but could a standard set of tyres, across all cars, best suited to your track, be used for a second timed run somewhere down the line? Maybe make for a more level playing field over the kit supplied? All the Best, Nice Work! :)
Astute is the most important 2wd Tamiya for me...so transforming this will be a work of love. I do run the same tires on all the pro cars...but feel because each Tamiya is so very different anyway...the kit tires are needed. Wish I would of had them for this buggy...but I couldn't find a nice set in time. Appreciate the view/comment.
I was very happy when i see the notification that Madcap time attack is ready to watch ! Outstanding video as usually (but i think it is now a pleonasm to write it ;-)) As you, l’m big fan of Astute and would love to see on your track (also Dynastorm by the way !). Damp friction shocks make sometimes the driving more fun (but depends of your mods 🙂). Would be interesting to see other videos with upgraded cars (for example Madcap with cva shock, Fox with front bar etc). But there is so many other car that i want to see (Tamiya Boomerang, Thundershoot chassis, Kyosho Javelin etc). Thank you and keep sharing !
Thank you so much. The Astute is definitely a dream car fot me. Really looking forward to doing some updates to the Cap! As soon as I get the fleet documented on film....we will let the hop up party begin for sure!
Hey buddy, so a disappointing first run from the Madcap but I know when you start the conversion it is going to fly matey! Keep up all the great work pal 🙌🏻
@@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC cheers pal. It is my favourite RC project and I love the final look of the buggy. The CVAs from the Super Astute are some of the best I have built! I am still expecting Tamiya to put another run of Super Astutes and Dyna Storms out in the next 2 years 🙏🏻
Why Tamiya hasn’t re re the 2wd Astute is depressing. It’s also one of my favorite. It’s funny, at the start of the video I was like it shouldn’t handle all that bad… boy was I wrong 😅. Also, it seemed to want to barrel roll towards the opposite side of the motor. You’d figure the geometry would make it biased and roll towards the heavy side 🤷🏻♂️. Another great timed run nonetheless the less 👍
Great review, glad to see a new buggy on the track!!
Thanks so much! Was nice to do something different for sure.

Got to collect them all bud...lol!
Oil dampers are gonna be a game changer for sure.

Nice run! Thanks for sharing
Thanks brother!
It looks like it rotated in corners really nicely, but just lacked wheel control. Looking forward to the upgrades 👍🏼
The car did have good entry, then fell apart after there...lol.

It's so very bad for sure...lol! We will probably need to pull from super Astute parts for the updates because they are more available.

Yeah those shocks are letting it down. The way it was flopping around turns and over the jumps... that was hard to watch lol
Awesome video, as always!
Pogo stick mode engage! Thanks my friend.

Absolutely has pogo stick rear suspension...

Lots of love for the Cap!

very balanced buggy!
great video
Thanks so much. Really appreciate it!
Great video! When the weather improves maybe you could just bolt on some proper dampers and see the time difference those make on their own?
That's the plan...as long as we are still at this location.
@@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC hmmmm, plans afoot! I do like the fact all cars run on the same track, but if moving house we will cope!!
Weather looks decent for February, fun videos as always.
Thanks bud. Track footage was shot in October...but yea it was a nice weekend (deck is current weather).
I like the Madcap and as always, your slo-mo are incredible 😊 Yes these shocks are terrible; some hi-caps and it will shine 😊 Thanks for sharing 🤝
Thank you so much. Love the love for the Slow Mo (it's our favorite to shoot).
Agree this buggy will be a different beast after some oil dampers!
Love the Show kids keep doing what your Doing👏👏👏🇮🇪
Thank you!

Awesome video and I am looking forward to seeing what the future Astute upgrades will do to the lap times!👍👍
Thanks so much. Will have to do some selective shopping...but it should be a fun ride for sure.
They should make both of them again. You can fit the slipper clutch from the astue on it.
Sure wish they did!
Another great video mate 👌 always wanted the madcap when i was younger 😊
Thanks my friend. Aside from the shocks...its a cool ride for sure.
Awesome video. Love your track and collection. Not a big fan of the look of the madcap but I dream of the Saint dragon
Thanks so much! Saint definitely has a far out body for sure!

Thanks my friend . Buggy is screaming for updates. Hopefully I can get it somewhere on the level with your amazing car!

The Astute is one of those kits that desperately needs a re-release, I'm hoping Tamiya has higher up in their backlog of future releases!
If I could have one...that would 100% be my vote for a rere. Assuming they still have all the molds around.
Great to see the Madcap ☺️
Little something different for sure! Thanks brother.

I REALLY wish we would get a rere of the Astute.
The rear of this Cap was like a jackhammer on wheels....hahaha
Tamiya cars might have been slow, but at least they broke a lot too.
Hahaha
Slower than the wild one i just watched in your other video 😲
@@hubdeep9452 Yep! Was surprised myself.
