They really couldve shown Jax revolted with the Ascended, or blaming himself whe confronting a Voidborn. Im brazilian and the voice acting in Portuguese has WAY more emotion and variation on the deliveries, but it still lacks that depht in the writting.
Side note on the ascended I think it could be cool to show the reverse as well. Like the ascended are prepared to fight a brutal enemy of long ago, only for jax to voice that he has a greater enemy then them. He’s angered and tells them to get out of his way, but knows they aren’t a true threat in comparison of what’s coming
Volibear is full of emotion, anger, fury, cold and stoic but also sad when he strikes down Ornn and trying desperately to justify it but obviously has a hard time doing it, they were brothers. its probably jax's elderly tone that you're getting at with these voicelines but to me I think they are emotional enough and yeah adding it more would be better.
I wish Jax had an interaction with Kayn, about both of them having mastered ever weapon, like jax mocking or questioning if he can all himself mastered at any of them. Also if they didn’t bring the “surprise! I’m back!” Voice line, I’m going to be mad
@novaseer he still does the sound of jax to this day on streams and videos of you meet him. Sounds perfect. Riot probably just didn't want to rehire him.
I can't believe que STILL don't have the option to choose witch voice pack we want to use, that was the only thing that I was exited for in the pre-season announcement
Yeah, now they are trying to block us from changing it. I have to go back to the files every time i open league to change the language of the whole thing.
Jax’s VL of “imagine if I had a real weapon” is iconic and I feel they really tried to make his entire personality about that line. On the flip coin, I’ve always seen jax as a fierce warrior but, the doesn’t take things serious bc of that specific VL
I got the same feeling from the interactions, they felt a bit too marvel type humor. But then again I started maining pantheon because of how real his quotes feel, so I kinda expected to see some quotes where we can see jax feeling nostalgic about icathia or some anger somewhere
@@noaburr I don't mind it too much since Jax's most iconic line is so marvel like anyways (Imagine if I had a real weapon!), them leaning on it is a reasonable conclusion
I think his Voicelines are almost perfect for a Guy whos traveling for a thousand years. Yes some of them i can understand lack a tiny bit of enthusiasm but it is self explanatory if you listen to the lines where he says that he „felt lost but never defeated“ or his old Icathian allies would say he „lost his way“. He simply isn‘t in Icathia anymore and he knows that it‘s gone. Also he never found ANYONE worthy who could fight the Void with him or would for that part. It isn‘t the Jax you know from The Fall of Icathia. It‘s your Veteran Gramps with ptsd who doesn‘t let anything affect him anymore and may even ask himself if he truly knows where and what his Goal is after all this time. He is the Lost Warrior without a Home cursed to fight for eternity for something that does not Exist.
I definitely agree with your thoughts on the voice lines. When I first heard them I had similar thoughts. For the vast majority of his voice lines, the delivery is almost identical. There is very little variation in emotion, and he pretty much never takes things seriously. The writing itself also lacks any sort of depth, nothing that would show how his life has affected him. Like you pointed out, I would expect something more serious when facing an Ascended - if not disgust or hatred for them attacking his home, then it would work equally well (better, even) to demonstrate a solemn sense of "that's in the past, I have a new enemy now, and for the sake of the world I cannot afford to hold a grudge", or even "I don't like you, but we have a shared enemy". His voicelines just make him feel really one dimensional, which he isn't... or at least shouldn't be.
Jax is probably the heroic archetype to a Tee, he probably doesn't take things too serious to cope, similar to Spider-Man. This is and seriousness are usually the path taken to cope with extreme loss. He also sounds like a battle maniac who enjoys the revelry of combat.
Kinda surprised you didnt mention the voice lines where he mentions trying to find a worthy warrior to carry the light but hasnt come across one yet. Amazing VGU
I think the reason Jax sounds like this is that he's more of a meat head rather than someone that dwells on emotion too much. Listen to the jokes parts and even the drinking with Gragas quote and you can tell that outside of combat his mental emotions are more focused on that even when factoring his homeland got destroyed. I also think that it's the little things in life that excite him the most and combat is just, well, another day for him. Even if he's up against an Ascended or even Fiora or anyone at this point (kinda like Saitama's emotions for most things).
I think Jax is supposed to be interpreted as a super-hero of sorts. He talks with a deep, reassuring voice, that, combined with his skill mounting high enough to fight ascended as a mortal, is supposed to inspire others to join him in his crusade against the void. Kind of like your laid back uncle who finally decided to start trying against you in checkers.
i like the jax voicelines because i feel like maybe some of his battle tactics probably include getting in the enemy’s head (kinda like AFO in mha or gojo kinda). he keeps the bravado while beating you relentlessly or perfectly dodging every attack (jax e) and berating you during the fight. its not that he has no emotions, he’s just trying to hide them from the enemy because as a master of fighting he probably knows the battle is won in the mind.
Out of the 4 concepts the one where we can see his mouth, the one with the hood, breaking lamp and the the other 2 I think the clothes this one with the hood where the best and closer to old Jax although his lore version didn’t have it,it also looked really good with the bandages and the gold ornaments, armour and clothing
*Upvote so Necrit can see*: I agree 101% with your note on Jax's voice, it's devoid of emotions and too monotone! and the reason is that he has the SAME VOICE ACTOR AS DRAVEN, (Erik Braa), so he has to squeeze his vocal cords all the time to sound "different" if he talks normally, relaxes, shouts or expresses any strong emotion, you'll hear the "Draven"! which is a pretty bad choice from riot honestly.. 🤦♂
Regarding the voice lines: I really like how they are delivered. It gives Jax a personality similar to Satoru Gojo. He is barely ever serious because he doesn't have to. And he LOVES fighting.
well yeah but did you hear how Gojo talks when he was getting trapped by Kenjaku? yes, full of hatred... against the one who posses his friend now one have to imagine Jax HATRED against the void, the thing that destroyed his homeland, his family, his friends, and more. Sure he can forgive the darkins, the ascended or even Azir. But the void? nah he should be way more serious
Thats not a bad comparison however you do get moments when Satoru is serious and those lines are delivered in a way to be chilling and showing of his intentions to annihilate the enemy or his hatered towards them. This happens sometimes after delivering a light hearted line, towards the end of it he curves it and goes into a more serious tone to emphasize the level of fuck around and find out his opponent will receive. Jax doesn't have this, it's as if he's doing a 24/7 stand up session with uncle humour to his enemies who destroyed his hometown and presumably most of who he cared about.
I like to imagine the many eyes represent enlightenment Jax opened his third eye through mastery of his craft, then again, then again, and again, so on, because he’s just THAT good.
With all the voice lines, I just took it as Jax being an apathetic old man who's tired all the time and has a lot on his shoulders. I think his emotions are meant to be more diluted and subtle than overt and obvious to play into him being an old, war hardened, well travelled man.
The way Jax's voicelines are makes him unique, cuz he doesn't ACT as expected, he s consistent in his emotions, he's somewhat stone cold but also making fun I find awesome how different is in his emotions by everyones expectations, standards, he's just that guy, different, nice
I like his voice lines, it conveys the understanding he has seen it all. He is very old and the bad stuff that happened to his kingdom happened a long time ago. He, unlike most very long-lived entities in lol, did not have a period in which he was inactive. He like what 3000 years old or something at this point.
with all these old champs getting updates, this gives me hope that maybe next we get some lore for cho'gath and shaco since they have pretty old and crusty models and new skins somewhat trying to help with it
Personally I can’t agree with trying to argue how a character should act sure it’d be nice but untimely it’s more so head cannon to try to expect how a character would act maybe the references to icathia aren’t mournful because he by now fully cast away the thoughts of being icathian because he feels that he no longer can be called one after letting in the mages the he himself didn’t trust and even fought along side them maybe now he’s now fully “jax” a wondered looking to find the strongest warriors with Saijax’s intentions of rebuilding his old home ultimately that’s how the people who created the character wanted to portray the character and spent a long time portraying it
Jax could of had more expressions, but I think the Jax they are expressing is a Jax that has seen it all, and he’s not impressed. He has infinite chill because he’s just lived that long. If anything, they could of explored other sides of him, with more voice lines.
8:52 Well maybe if Jax have longer voice lines they would be able to convey his struggles, worries, and vulnerabilities. Instead, Riot has to fit all of Jax's personality in 9 mins which is basically impossible. This is why cutting down the budget for the VO in League was a mistake. Aatrox wouldn't have been nearly as interesting if all he had to work with was 9 mins of dialogue. Aatrox has a full 28 mins of dialogue which conveys his rage, fears, anguish, and sorrow. If Aatrox was made today, he would only be just another angry shouty champion League. He would be extremely one dimensional and that's the problem I have with the new champions and why I no longer connect with them as much as I did back then. They're all so one-note and uninteresting because they can all just be described in a single sentence.
Hit the nail in the head. If Aatrox didnt reveal ALL of those emotions, maybe we wouldnt have gotten the Darkin the way they were in LoR, where we have the brutal ones, but we have ones tha5 are downright SCARED and desperate by the scarring the void did to them. Character voicelines are WAY more important then people think, Riot really messed up cutting them for arbitrary reasons
Im sorry, but you can build an amaizing caracter in 2 minutes. Just watch the Team fortress 2 animations met the team. They are a masterclass at building caracter.
Nice to see Jax getting this update. I wonder when is Shaco going to get one, is like that thing that everyone knows that is necessary but is probably so much work that no one wants to do it. Hopefully before 2030 every 2009 champ will be visually updated
@@GentlyUsedFrog All of the OG champions from 2009 need some kind of rework. That one or another needs it more it's all subjective to which champion you like more.
call me old but i still love the old lore of jax, a op dud that was ban from using weapons at LOL tornament so he took a lamp from runaterras forest and won,and that why the call him GRANDMASTER AT ARMS! but now that name doesnt have sense XD
The japanese are notorious for having theatrical level of enthusiasm when it comes to voice acting, i feel like in the west we only get either the bare minimum or "just isn't there yet", but oh well, at least Jax got his identity refreshed for the new decade
Hell, even silence makes a sound in Japanese. Take a shot every time a "..." response sounds like they almost accidentally dropped their baby, you'll be sloshed in record time.
Totally agree with you about Jax's new voice lines. He used to be this heroic, hopeful guy that stood out. Now he's just like every other champ who acts like a jerk. Kinda disappointing, to be honest.
I feel like Jax's voice has the tone of Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story but what it needs for the serious moments is more Master Chief tone. Update looks clean though and love the theme music.
I think somebody mentioned this awhile back when lor released his cards, but they suggested the theory that Jax suffers from ptsd from the void swallowing icathia and in his desperation he found the last flame, the lamppost and fought against the void to escape. What is weird about the story imo is that the lamps flame "hurt" the void creatures (Normal fire would props do the same) but the idea that its magical may not be the case maybe its just a figment of his imagination. The reason behind this theory stems from the card "The icathian mirrage" which seem to not exist, Jax dont even know if they do, its hinted at in the mirage card description. Its possible that Jax's guilt and hope might have manifested into the fire that burns in the lamppost, I think it gives his character a lot of depth but it props aint the case thanks for the vid Necrit you are always a welcome notification :)
I do agree the delivery is night and day between those re-recorded old jokes compared to the new material. Being restrained as a voice actor isn't bad but it does seem like a weird direction to go without stronger emotion in other lines
Jax's voice and voice lines don't feel like someone who lost his home land, who lost countless people he new and loved due to the void and the ascended, he feels more like a guy who got of a wrestling match and decided to go to the pub. Like yes, a big part of Jax is he is cocky, he is the greatest weapon master in all of the world. However, I feel like riot should of let the mask slip in some of his voice lines. Let us see the man behind the cockyness and misses his home.
I think it kinda makes sense Jax just doesnt care. He has been traveling the land since the FALL OF ICATHIA trying to find warriors worthy of fighting the void. To this day, he has yet to find one. I'd be a little jaded, too, if my many century long quest had yet to find a single foothold.
This is what the game needs, I literally played jax the first time and am considering learning him JUST because the way he looks and sounds now is so unique and cool.
I was hesitant about your opinons of his voice lines, but damn it's a good thing you showcased the Japanese dub, now im totally with you. That "TATAKAE!" felt different and I want that in the English dub
i felt the exact same way and i felt bad for being a little disappointed because we got all those things you mentioned right in lor! Jax has even less lines than lol and it already has SO much more emotion and excitement in the lines, and the comment on him not being serious enough i dont fully agree with bc they have a couple line in lor where he's straight up confronted with his past and he responds in his jokey way but its believeable with the voice performance and because it tells us jax doesnt like to confront his past like that, he just wants to move forward (more accurately go fist forward)
Honestly, Im so glad you made this video because Ive been feeling the exact same. I knew something felt off when I first listened to his voice lines, and I really think its just that he's mostly just going "x character, ha, you are bad" over and over, it doesnt feel like a character, it feels like if they asked ChatGPT to make references to league characters.
i felt the same way about the voice lines hitting like 95% jokey and 5% serious with more insight into the character. a good comparison i think is Volibear's lines when he was reworked. he has a ton of lines where he is jokey/one-note about the old ways being better, but he has lines that show he has fears and worries (i.e. saying that he is immortal but he is not truly alive if he is not believed in by warriors). these lines help make the character full realized and rounded out with a personality that has ups and downs. there was definitely room to add in lines that show Jax caring about his home being destroyed, etc.
I definitely see what your saying; he feels very one tone and a lot if the characters lately have shown multiple emotions. Given that I have to imagine that may have been part of the voice directing where they wanted him to seem more sassy and confident. I do wish we got to see some of his depth in maybe long move voicelines, where he is by himself and can let down his guard a bit
There is no way new Jax and chogath exist in the same game. His animations are gorgeous.

its probably jax's elderly tone that you're getting at with these voicelines but to me I think they are emotional enough and yeah adding it more would be better.
Jax really just sounds like a war vet grandpa in english and jojo character in japanese
I wish Jax had an interaction with Kayn, about both of them having mastered ever weapon, like jax mocking or questioning if he can all himself mastered at any of them. Also if they didn’t bring the “surprise! I’m back!” Voice line, I’m going to be mad
They brought back all the original lines
Did you even watch his voiceline video?
That voice line now is his respawn line
I really wanted the "Bring it oooon" with the same voice tone, and they did! I got all I could ask for from this ASU lol
No, you’re not the only one who feels like this. The voice lines are kinda memey
Old jax voice lines have so much better quality I dont know what happened here
@@Tazx33 Probably something to do with the voice actor being fourteen years older than when he originally voiced the character, if I were to guess.
I think the word everyone is afraid to say is cringe
@novaseer he still does the sound of jax to this day on streams and videos of you meet him. Sounds perfect. Riot probably just didn't want to rehire him.
thats the best part. league has gotten too serious. it needs to go back to being meme-y
I always pay my respects to jaxismus. The skins backstory always makes me emotional. I’m glad he got the love he deserves. ❤
I can't believe que STILL don't have the option to choose witch voice pack we want to use, that was the only thing that I was exited for in the pre-season announcement
Yeah, now they are trying to block us from changing it. I have to go back to the files every time i open league to change the language of the whole thing.
consider using LeagueLocaleLauncher so you don't go insane having to do it manually every time you boot up
Voice pack?

Jax is the kind of guy to offer you a hardboiled egg before you go into a battle that will surely be your last. His voicelines makes sense
Jax’s VL of “imagine if I had a real weapon” is iconic and I feel they really tried to make his entire personality about that line. On the flip coin, I’ve always seen jax as a fierce warrior but, the doesn’t take things serious bc of that specific VL
Has to do with Jax's old lore. When summoners (the players, not he spells) and league itself were part of canon
I got the same feeling from the interactions, they felt a bit too marvel type humor. But then again I started maining pantheon because of how real his quotes feel, so I kinda expected to see some quotes where we can see jax feeling nostalgic about icathia or some anger somewhere
Marvel is exactly what I was thinking. He always sounds like he's a breath away from saying "soooo.... that just happened."
Him being voided from emotions and acting all cheered up and jovial is great imo.
heh, voided.
But Ahri, in fact, got a theme :{
yeah my thought :D guess he didnt saw it
And it was a banger
Good, don’t acknowledge her existence and maybe, just maybe, she disappears
I wanted Temple Jax to have the black ink effect instead of flames but I suppose this is fine as well.
Maybe Jax is the LoL version of Sans. A guy whose seen so many terrible things he just decided to hide all his trauma in goofy shell.
Jax was one of my favorites since 2009 on principle, as he is based on my favorite character from the Shannara series. Glad to see him get some love.
i like the jax voicelines because i feel like maybe some of his battle tactics probably include getting in the enemy’s head (kinda like AFO in mha or gojo kinda). he keeps the bravado while beating you relentlessly or perfectly dodging every attack (jax e) and berating you during the fight. its not that he has no emotions, he’s just trying to hide them from the enemy because as a master of fighting he probably knows the battle is won in the mind.
Jax being De-VOID of all emotions
😂
Out of the 4 concepts the one where we can see his mouth, the one with the hood, breaking lamp and the the other 2 I think the clothes this one with the hood where the best and closer to old Jax although his lore version didn’t have it,it also looked really good with the bandages and the gold ornaments, armour and clothing
I forgot to say that New Jax is like dragon ball super instead of being dragon ball Z
Sad they gave him a spiky shining club instead of a lantern though
*Upvote so Necrit can see*: I agree 101% with your note on Jax's voice, it's devoid of emotions and too monotone! and the reason is that he has the SAME VOICE ACTOR AS DRAVEN, (Erik Braa), so he has to squeeze his vocal cords all the time to sound "different" if he talks normally, relaxes, shouts or expresses any strong emotion, you'll hear the "Draven"! which is a pretty bad choice from riot honestly.. 🤦♂
I think Jax sounds fine, he shows as much excitment fighting me as I do fighting a Jax.
Regarding the voice lines: I really like how they are delivered. It gives Jax a personality similar to Satoru Gojo. He is barely ever serious because he doesn't have to. And he LOVES fighting.
well yeah
but did you hear how Gojo talks when he was getting trapped by Kenjaku? yes, full of hatred... against the one who posses his friend
now one have to imagine Jax HATRED against the void, the thing that destroyed his homeland, his family, his friends, and more.
Video 17 of kindly asking Necrit to do a breakdown of the Ruination novel
I like to imagine the many eyes represent enlightenment
Jax opened his third eye through mastery of his craft, then again, then again, and again, so on, because he’s just THAT good.
Jax in english dub: *Cheesy marvel one liners* Jax in japanese dub: *Anime protagonist protocol enabled*
With all the voice lines, I just took it as Jax being an apathetic old man who's tired all the time and has a lot on his shoulders. I think his emotions are meant to be more diluted and subtle than overt and obvious to play into him being an old, war hardened, well travelled man.
I think his voice direction is fine. Makes him seem like a super powerful old man who's seen everything
The way Jax's voicelines are makes him unique, cuz he doesn't ACT as expected, he s consistent in his emotions, he's somewhat stone cold but also making fun
I find awesome how different is in his emotions by everyones expectations, standards, he's just that guy, different, nice
With how joyful he is, these voicelines make it seem like he's also possessed by Ashlesh. And things always sound super intense in Japanese lol
I like his voice lines, it conveys the understanding he has seen it all. He is very old and the bad stuff that happened to his kingdom happened a long time ago. He, unlike most very long-lived entities in lol, did not have a period in which he was inactive. He like what 3000 years old or something at this point.
with all these old champs getting updates, this gives me hope that maybe next we get some lore for cho'gath and shaco since they have pretty old and crusty models and new skins somewhat trying to help with it
They got Erik Braa back for Jax, I hope they get Adam Herrington for a Shaco ASU! Both of them used to have a podcast I'd listen to back in the day.
Uh Yep
here goes the tale of the funny bone man in a funny mask

FINALLY SOMEONE WITH THE SAME OPINION ON THE VOICE LINES AS ME
I really liked the stick with nails in it from the original vandal jax
8:52
Well maybe if Jax have longer voice lines they would be able to convey his struggles, worries, and vulnerabilities.
They are a masterclass at building caracter.
fax, voicelines in league are past their prime now unfortunately
5:09 The moment you said metal pipe, I braced myself for the loud clanging noise
Necrit, ur not alone. I generally share ur opinion!
Japanese voice actors will always go the extra mile!!!
But Necrit, Ahri did receive a new theme with her ASU
Nice to see Jax getting this update.
I wonder when is Shaco going to get one, is like that thing that everyone knows that is necessary but is probably so much work that no one wants to do it.
Hopefully before 2030 every 2009 champ will be visually updated
I hope shaco rots in hell
@@KiannkaSame here. Everyone wants Yuumi out of the game, and I am here in the corner praying for Riot to delete Shaco 😂
@@KiannkaHe doesn't need an update, he needs a fking rework
I can count at least 10 characters that need it more than Shaco...
@@GentlyUsedFrog All of the OG champions from 2009 need some kind of rework. That one or another needs it more it's all subjective to which champion you like more.
Jp always delivers in terms of voicelines
JAX STILL GOT THAT COOKIE IN HIM 😤🥵😏
call me old but i still love the old lore of jax, a op dud that was ban from using weapons at LOL tornament so he took a lamp from runaterras forest and won,and that why the call him GRANDMASTER AT ARMS! but now that name doesnt have sense XD
I love it! Legit started playing him and it’s so pretty.
I actually like that they kept the original voice direction in the new when you're numb to your trauma and keep cracking jokes spin.
Started from Imagine if i had a real weapon to Imagine if i had an idea why i wear this mask.
Totally agree with you about Jax's new voice lines. He used to be this heroic, hopeful guy that stood out. Now he's just like every other champ who acts like a jerk. Kinda disappointing, to be honest.
Always figured the mask was a stylistic choice because Yi had a similar mask.
But Ahri did get a champion theme with her ASU. Necrit is spreading misinformation today
no i totally agree about the voice
i was thinking the exact same thing and im glad at least someone shares my pov!
love your videos man
Ahri did get a new theme though
Honestly expected them to forget jaximus’s extra voice line. Nice to see they remembered and even added a little
But Ahri got her theme, lol😂
I feel like Jax's voice has the tone of Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story but what it needs for the serious moments is more Master Chief tone. Update looks clean though and love the theme music.
Jax once again just proves that riot finally needs to enable us freely changing the voices
Its possible that Jax's guilt and hope might have manifested into the fire that burns in the lamppost, I think it gives his character a lot of depth but it props aint the case
thanks for the vid Necrit you are always a welcome notification :)
I do want to point out that Ahri didnt get a theme because she already has one. Caitlyn and Jax, prior to their ASUs, didnt.
Ahri got a theme, bro.
Ahri never had a theme before, she just got one with her new VGU
Jax in my head is a really simple man. luv figthing, luv icathia, luv egg, 'ate the void. And I feel like his lines reflect that really well.
I love the new Voicelines as much as anyone else but those are valid critisms.
I was hesitant about your opinons of his voice lines, but damn it's a good thing you showcased the Japanese dub, now im totally with you. That "TATAKAE!" felt different and I want that in the English dub
I like that Jax is just fed up and just wants to beat things up
15:12 I swear those "tatakae"s get me every time...
MAIN CHARACTER OF RUNETTERA
Heya, this is a little thing, but Ahri DID get a music theme, and it's amazing!!! Great video as always, Necrit!!! :)
i felt the exact same way and i felt bad for being a little disappointed because we got all those things you mentioned right in lor!
4:17
His face looks like the batman who laughs
I'd love it lmao
Actually the German voice of jax ist very good too. You really feel the emotions and the funny lines are still funny.
5:09 We need a custom skin where every time jax hits something, it plays the metal pipe drop sound.
Japanese VA always on another level, especially Ahri VA.
"Cinematic that came out 9 years ago" Oh man... I feel so old right now X_X
i felt the same way about the voice lines hitting like 95% jokey and 5% serious with more insight into the character.
a good comparison i think is Volibear's lines when he was reworked. he has a ton of lines where he is jokey/one-note about the old ways being better, but he has lines that show he has fears and worries (i.e. saying that he is immortal but he is not truly alive if he is not believed in by warriors). these lines help make the character full realized and rounded out with a personality that has ups and downs. there was definitely room to add in lines that show Jax caring about his home being destroyed, etc.
With the new voice lines I couldn't help but think of the orcs from Oblivion mixed with Duke Nukem
From the sounds of the voice clips it sounds like he's someone who doesn't care what he swings at, give him a target to swing at than he's happy.
The third hit actually sounds like someone getting hit in the face with a dodgeball
when he showed the pipes on the screen all i could hear is em dropping
I like the new jax vo, he just comes off as an energetic grandpa acting like every fight is a play session with his grandkids or something.
