My guess is that they didn't release it because it was so god awful. I've never seen one group of people sing the same song so unharmoniously. It doesn't help that a good 50% of the cast cannot sing. Thank God for Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, Eddie Redmayne and the group of real singers in the background they got to round out the end of the song. This was so painful to watch.
Imagine if they all reunited and performed this when Les Miz returned to Broadway in 2014. The standing ovation would have lasted a good 10 minutes tops, and that’s not including the cast taking a bow at the end.
truly! i asked two friends who know little to nothing of broadway actors and my brother who knows nothing of actors in general if they could guess who were the two broadway actors in this. they all answered “the girl in the blue dress” and “the guy in bow tie who has a red handkerchief” you can really see who makes a living out of singing
Los Miserables debió llevarse el Oscar a la mejor película ese año. Quizás lo que dice Victor Hugo no les guste demasiado a los que deciden. Excelente película!
@@charlesmathuesiii1206 of course, most of them are West End/Broadway singers. But they are only as strong as their weakest member, which imo here is Russel Crowe (who isn't musical theatre trained) , so they had to do this so he doesn't sound off. Which he still does. But that's another topic. 😂
And they didn’t use Diagonal alley, they built the entire set except for the part in the movie where Valjean is hiking to the Bishop’s convent. They actually filmed that in France.
They director ruined the movie with his self indugent idea to make the preformers sing it live. He wore down their voices via the many rehearsals so what came out ruined the musical part of the musical. He sacrificed musical quality for acting. The characters could sing and would have sounded much better but for the directors self indugence. It is supposed to be a musical and it sounded like crap musically. The people who liked it must all be tone deaf.
I liked the film. Yes, the singing could have been better if it hadn’t been live, but the director went for acting/more natural performances over perfect singing, which I thought worked really well in this case. If it had been purely about singing talent, none of the well known actors would have featured!
I agree. This is one of those "musicals" that is better acted than going for the perfect pitch. I thought Ann Hathaway was excellent. You just felt the misery of her character in that movie. @@scotman5212
I consider this to be the greatest musical moment in the history of the Academy Awards broadcasts.
Me too!
This and Lady Gaga performance
Just brilliant! I sure wish the Academy would release an official video of this!
there was a more official one up that wasnt a recording off of a tv. i guess it got pulled.
Their rehearsal for this is a great video.

It's because of this video that I watched the movie. Love this performance and loved the movie even more. And holy crap Eddie Redmayne can sing!!!

As Hugh Jackman as he’s singer brilliant
how come the original version isn't showed. this is a video taken by a phone of the screen?
I'm sorry the quality isn't better :( I'm guessing the original isn't on youtube anymore because of copyright. Thank you for watching!
@@aplwdw963 ok, l understand
this is the way it should have been done - how sad
The academy sure got this wrong! That is probably why Danial Day Lewis quit!
The key is SO low!
These people that sang are not Broadway people and that's why the key was lowered for their voices

Ministery of Magic of Harry Potter at 0:28?
Jean Carlo B D Yep i Think so. they used some parts of diangon alley
No they built the sewer based on how they looked in the time period that they were trying to portray throughout the story.

What was Ramin Karimloo doing there?
He was part of the chorus .
