Honestly, that small attention to detail about how Artyom, after 2033 and Last Light, still has Hunters dog tags, showing the importance and growth that Hunter had on Artyom to venture out of the station in the start of 2033.
He probably saved his life. If not for Hunter he would have stayed at the Exibition and most likely died if the Nosalies invaded and overrun the station (like they did at the Cursed Station). Instead he went on a journey to Polis and eventually joined the Spartan Order, becaming it's leader.

The original novel really captured my imagination as a kid. The lore and attention to details were fantastic. There was even a map of Metro printed on the back cover of the book featuring all factions and independent stations, so you can immerse yourself and follow the journey of Artyom better.
The librarians are more interesting in the novel, as in the novel they are able to speak to artyom and one could even be heard grumbling about overdue books
Man, it's a pity they didn't include a scene where Danila gets killed by a librarian while the librarian mimics his voice, calling to Artyom and at the same time he digs his hand into Danila's intestines, creating a bloody mess. Danila was still alive. What a great scene in the books. Terrifying and gruesome
True, but at the same time I think it's more simply cultural wisdom andexpectance. There's a lot of stories about Russia starting war from Slavic countries because, well, the region's modern history has been smothered with oppression under the USSR and Russian control, and many countries have since wanted to make sure that their independence from Russia and a prevention of a return to anything close to a USSR type organization. It's a sad fact that the roots of stories like Metro are reflections on the blood-stained history of the region.
@@tylerp.5004 Actually I'm not sure if it's ever been made clear who or what exactly started the war? Could be wrong though, but your comment makes alot of sense

Fun fact that many overlook, but bourbon actually survives getting shot. At the end of pavel's mission in last light you can find two bandits talking about how lucky bourbon was to survive the massacre that happened at that bandit camp.
I had no idea! Kinda wish he met up with artyom again and got some closure cause I find it sad that he lived the rest of his life thinking his first friend outside of exhibition was a short-lived one but it's nice that he lives
Very true but at the same time due to the bad ending of Metro Exodus where you can meet bourbon in the afterlife it seems that although he survived the initial encounter he died somewhere along the way
I mean you meet him during the bad ending in Metro Exodus, he says something like that he didn’t expect Artyom to end up dead and that there are a lot of things to discuss
I know people were annoyed that the story changed and started becoming it’s own thing but I feel like that’s a good thing, it like you can experience more of the metro universe this way. I stopped watching this about half way because I want to read the story and play the games now. Thank you for reminding me that this game exist.
I've been binging on your videos today, and have to say this has probably been the one that impressed me the most. I love how deep into detail you dive in these game lore videos. Also can we all just take a moment to appreciate the brilliance of Gluhovski's writing and how it has given us not only brilliant novels but also very enjoyable video games.
Metro is a game that I will always support. Exodus renewed my hopes that the devs want to return to the storytelling of 2033. There are many little stories left unnswered from the books and 2033 (submarines, tank village, cannibal tribe station, metro 2 tunnels) Alas we got to see them return as hints. Sams story and two colonels really shows how good this game can be. Though its surprising there was not a dlc for retrieving the snow plow. If we get another game. I suspect we will follow Sam to America. I'm curious to see more of this universe. Though I really believe the game should stay to the dark tunnels of the metro.
Disagree; Two entire games were focused on the Metro as well as the beginning part of the third game. At that point, it kinda gets old; Stick to the outside world for now, though the story WILL head back to the Metro eventually to take out the Invisible Watchers as the writers are clearly implying.
It was April 2010 when my grandfather was hospitalized and died a week later. I was visiting him in the hospital, I took a break for a bit and visited the internet cafe when I saw this game's trailer recommended by TH-cam. I was a Call of Duty addict back then so Metro 2033's idea and gameplay was mindblowing to me back then and I vividly remember getting excited for this game. Damn, what a nostalgia hit, games in the early 2010s were something else.
If there's one thing on this channel that's bullshit, it's how Harry pretends like he never uploads while putting out like some of the most detailed lore videos once a week. Even when it's a game I've never heard of they're great. You are one of most underrated youtubers out there, when I first watched your Outlast video, I just assumed you were at over a million. Keep up this quality and you'll be there in no time. Thanks for the entertainment you've provided.
The atmosphere I felt going through Metro 2033 for the first time was amazing. That dark and foreboding feeling that you are just a little bit of humanity struggling to survive. Edit: I remember hearing something from Last Light or 2033. But the civil war between the communist and fascist would be beneficial to the Metro. As it would kill lots of mouths to feed. It was little things like that helped make the games so good.
I've read all three books multiple times. The first one is still my favorite. Played all three games multiple times as well and Metro Exodus is by far my favorite here. Even compared to the story of the books, Metro Exodus is my favorite. The time you can spend with your fellow Spartans on the train really draws you into the narrative and makes you care about them and that is great motivation for the gameplay for me. Great summary of the world of Metro! Enjoyed it a lot.
For me Metro Exodus is the most immersive and exciting FPS game I've ever played. It was seriously amazing, scary and just a total blast. Also the fact that all these games have multiple endings makes them great for a second or even third playthrough. Playing through Metro Exodus again but this time without killing a single enemy was a total thrill. Love these game, can't wait for the next instalment in the franchise
The lack of/minimal HUD from the first game set a trend that the industry has largely taken note of for the better. Nothing takes me out of a game like having a bunch of stuff plastered all over it. Having stuff you carry actually be a hud replacement was a smart move in terms of design and it's something I adore when other games do. Make the knobs, buttons, and screens in a spaceship mean something. Instead of my character just knowing the time, give them a watch. Instead of them just knowing the layout of every area around them, give them a physical map to pull out. All those little details allow me to suck myself on further than if they were just put on the screen 24/7. It also give you more space to wander, explore, and actually focus on what's in front of you instead of staring at the HUD. Its something a lot of open world games still massively struggle with.
When playing through the trilogy and dlcs I liked to play through both the good and the bad endings, the English and the Russian versions, if possible, I’d wish more people knew about this series. It has this way of just gripping into your heart and not only involving you as a player, but as a reader, going through the games and collecting the journals let’s you discover who artyom is not just as a character, but a person who lives in this world.
Thinking and longing for the metro tunnels. Listening to this and going to replay the whole game series. Although very different from the books. It was a beautiful story that brought tears to my eyes. Spartan on Watch. Fort Chipewyan, Alberta. Waiting and yearning.
Amazing video. The Metro Series funny enough helped me through a tough time, allowing me to care about something. It’s a great game series and you definitely did it justice. I’m excited to see more.
I'm pretty sure I watched this a year or two ago, but I'm rewatching it rn. Just cause of how much I like your game lore/story breakdowns and how much I love the Metro series! I'm actually coming to this right after finishing your "A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead" video that you just released a few hours ago lmao
minor correction, it's unlikely the event in the tunnel out of exhibition was a dark one attack, rather it was most likely an anomaly, these have nothing to do with the dark ones but Artyoms resistance to them is the result of his link to the dark ones and their aid.
I'm not a gamer (like at all) and have played none of the games featured on this channel. Yet I absolutely love watching these videos and always look forward to them! Please keep up the great work! (:
Same! Not a gamer and honestly will never have the time (or interest, frankly) to dump countless hours into a game so these videos are a fantastic way to enjoy some of these spectacularly inventive narratives!
You guys should try single player games, you don’t need to put much time in, an hour or so just as you would watch a film, immersion is what most of us play for even when there is little time for it
@@beencomfy Honestly, nah. Having to successfully navigate gameplay to move the story along is not anything like watching a movie. One is choose your own adventure (maybe. if you're good at the game.) and the other is media I can enjoy without needing to perform tasks and solve puzzles just to find out the end of the damn story. I want to relax in my downtime, not fully start a hobby of working at maybe getting the "good ending" for a plot payoff of a game and then needing to DO IT ALL AGAIN for the other possible endings? Nope. As I said, being a gamer just isn't for me. 🤣
@@DarlingMissDarlingit's understandable, but I hope you also grasp that those of us who do enjoy it find it as relaxing as reading a book or watching a film. @@kshitiz6376 to each their own. I have watched a playthrough and I don't agree. I think I has a complicated storyline, interesting characters, and historical and cultural connections that I didn't expect in a video game. I do think the handling might have been a bit clunky. The player I watched seemed to be struggling a bit with it. But, frankly, that seems to be the new norm for some reason. Anyway, let's let him look and see what he thinks.
Excellent breakdown of the whole picture. Good pacing on the story beats and not over-extending exposition on certain characters or optional tasks. Nice work and good editing!
This series means so much for me. It was there for me when I've been at my worst. It gave motivation and direction in life. I've been a hardcore fan for years now, made my room metro themed, getting into airsoft with a spartan fit and spartan patches and an AKS-74U (very soon will be getting a VSS). I try to bring as many people into metro as I can, be that by following a certain rule set in any game I play such as: prefference for using ak platforms, opfor outfits and metro morale system (only killing when it's required). I've turned 17 on the 25th this month meaning I've been a fan and reader of this for at least 4 years minimum. 10/10 a must play for anyone who likes postapo

I actually liked the ideas of the Dark Ones, it made for a great story about people trying to survive against horrible odds, and what people are willing to do in order to do so. That the Spartan Order, though they are extremely good people and are a beacon for all of the metro, are still only people, and their endless mantra to protect what they love with tooth and claw only ends up killing untold numbers of those which only ever wished to be understood. I think one of the great things about metro is that it is extremely even handed and down to earth when it comes to depicting real people with all the ideals and flaws that they have. That there are many sides to the same story, and the thin line of understanding that can seperate the view between hero and murderer.

Only read the first line on steam description. Watching his video is like a drama series.. My husband(not a gamer) was interested in the story too. Very Well done video.
Having read the first book, I believe that the origin of the mutants isn't from the radiation. Khan mentions both in the game and in the book that the nuclear fallout destroyed "heaven and hell" and that "the souls of the dead have no where to go and stay in the metro." What differs in the book is that Khan mentions the noosphere, which is a theory that the collective consciousness of humanity forms a kind of "mass" like the biosphere or geosphere. This concept was popular among intellectuals in the Soviet Union. In the book Khan also says that the souls of dead all become trans morphed into one massive entity. Basically, what I believe Khan was trying to say, is that the nuclear fallout destroyed the noosphere, and the collective consciousness of everyone who died during the 2013 war formed a kind of massive psychic entity. I believe that this massive entity is the reason for all the "supernatural" phenomenon in the metro. I also think that this is also the reason for the existence of the mutants, as the collective consciousness guided their evolution.
I liked some details in Metro as a whole like the critique of Russian belligerence (the games were made by the Ukrainians that made STALKER which happens to famously be set in the Pripyat exclusion zone; one of Russia’s *many* crimes against them), the stations being named and themed (and name for that theme) after old city states and the makeup and origin of mutant creatures and in Exodus specifically like the languages being spoken on the disabled jammer, the Dark Ones in Novosibirsk and the fact the Ark was never finished and the Eurasianist government died, which is poetic considering Russia’s extreme Kleptocracy and nihilism, and finally the Fallout style radio signals on the train with goofy music and characters talking about their settlements in places like Irkutsk; if you tune in before Dead City you can hear Kirill crying trying to call his dead dad. I shed a tear but it didn’t make me cry as much as Moscow and Novosibirsk Dead City apocalypse flashbacks in view of the missiles launching and other payloads detonating; The pilots of an airliner screaming “I don’t wanna die” in the arguably best one did it for me.

@@decimation9780 It's the one situation where I took King Arthur's advice on it and ran away lol. I figured that if I could get him far enough away for me to get the ladder down (iirc, the bear rammed the church making it fall or something), I could climb it and hopefully get away. Thankfully it worked but I was paranoid that that wasn't the end of the fight.

Blind ones aren't actually telepathically speaking with Artyom, that's Dark One's work.
You can actually see him just above on the right building of which you enter. They are actually helping Artyom.
Someone also mentioned that in other DLC you meet them, but they don't talk to you anymore. It's not an oversight by the designers.
Yeah I don't see them in that scene at all. Maybe I'm blind. I've played through all the DLCs and don't remember meeting any dark ones on Exodus.

Strange how we are basically 10 years away from when this story takes place and there is a major Russia vs NATO conflict developing...
metro in real life, sad.

“But after a fight with a massive armored shrimp…” was just not a sentence I was expecting to hear today. 😂 Thanks for another great video.
"If you made this far you are a trooper" like I can't do anything else while watching this merits my full undivided attention
It has this way of just gripping into your heart and not only involving you as a player, but as a reader, going through the games and collecting the journals let’s you discover who artyom is not just as a character, but a person who lives in this world.

minor correction, it's unlikely the event in the tunnel out of exhibition was a dark one attack, rather it was most likely an anomaly, these have nothing to do with the dark ones but Artyoms resistance to them is the result of his link to the dark ones and their aid.

I shed a tear but it didn’t make me cry as much as Moscow and Novosibirsk Dead City apocalypse flashbacks in view of the missiles launching and other payloads detonating; The pilots of an airliner screaming “I don’t wanna die” in the arguably best one did it for me.
i love how deep and meaningful the metro story is and you have depicted it well

Belive it or not i watched the whole video in one sitting. Thank you for the awesome content!
That was so cool. I'm glad I finally know the story of Metro, and I already ordered the first book. You did an amazing job at telling the story, and I could have watched and listened for hours more. Thank you so much, you rock!
Finally, a new video! I already know this is gonna be good since it's your work, Gaming Harry.
I slammed my hands against the woodgrain of my 100yr old desk as my childhood hero died on his sheild. Growing up playing metro, Atryom's death was one of the many things that made me genuinely weep.
Replay and get the good ending lol
@@hellboy4860 I can't I'm not good at video games.
@@skidunskie it's really not hard at all especially since you can just save scum
I just finished Exodus a few days ago along with the Two Colonels because it was short. I watched this in full to get reacquainted with the lore of the dark ones and their roles in the first 2 games. The last hour of Exodus was rough and two colonels was even more rough. I absolutely love games that pull on the heart strings like this. The cherry on top is that the theme is right up my alley of post apocalyptic wasteland. Genuinely in my top 5 of best series I have ever played. I also just learned that the 4th installment of the series was confirmed a few years ago and might be on track for a big update in 2024.
Fun fact
Artyom was a army hero a faction spartans meeting new friends now the dark ones is worsened.
But artyom was survived and promoted to colonel and order to returning a new home miller's passed away
