    Am I the only one who thinks Gilgamesh should appear in Kingdom Hearts as an optional boss fight? I wouldn't put it past him wanting to claim the Keyblade seeing as it's a legendary weapon.

      Sadly the real Gilgamesh from FFV only appears in Final Fantasy VIII, FFXII(plus FFXII Revenant Wings),FFXIII-2(DLC),FFXIV, Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin(DLC) plus the remasters of older Final Fantasy games(1 through 6 I believe), and Dissidia Duodecim. Every other character named Gilgamesh is their own entity.

    Gilgamesh in FF12 was the ultimate Gilgamesh. Huge focus on swords, massive goofball, stealing pieces of Genji equipment, the battle takes place on a bridge initially, weapons from former games showcased in a multi-part battle. Super cool.

      @@sylvierose2799 sadly no. there are directors and writers who wants to put their own spin on the character that suits their taste or they feel like it's more epic this way or that way,
      like ff games where their gilgamesh is very much their own character like ff9 where he is a fellow thief , others like ffxv where he's not the goofball obsessive sword nut character we know all and love more like a force of nature and spirit guardian of the kingdom. but sometimes the same gilgamesh comes back.
      but i like to think that he enters the rift to that universe let's say xv where he accidentally became this spirit guardian and just went on with it for thousand of years cause he's bored and just to pass the time while waiting for the rift to open up again and then the story takes place and after that the rift opens up again and he just drops the act like it was nothing and goes back to hunting excalibur again.
      got the idea of this from ff9 gilgamesh despite his very different look from the traditional gilgamesh and enkidu being his brother instead of ally/pet , he is out of all the non-gilgamesh gilgamesh is pretty similar in personality and it helps that ff9 gilgamesh is very mysterious and secretive like you feel he's hiding something. probably he is gilgamesh and was deformed by the rift to appropreate to that universe design.

    I always head it as my personal headcannon that Alleyway Jack was actually a "prequel" Gilgamesh, this was Gilgamesh as a child/teen, and his first appearance chronologically, before he became a general for Exdeath.
    Also, I know this video is 3 years old, but Gilgamesh has appeared a lot in Opera Omnia Dissidia, the mobile game, where Bartz and his crew actually recognize him, and Gilgamesh's story kinda moves forward with him being free from the void (for now) but realizing he's not a people person so he becomes a wandering ronin but still pops in to help Bartz since they are buds. They also poke fun at the fact there are so many strange Gilamesh's out there (strange ones like IX, XI, and 0, but even ones that shuld be normal Gilgamesh like VIII and XIII-2) and sort of nudge nudge wink wink that they MIGHT not be this Gilgamesh but no one is totally sure.

    I like that, not only being an easter egg or cameo; he has a bit of his own continuity and story as to why.
    Obviously lot of holes, but;
    Aa treasure hunter, who turned to fighting in pits, but became infamous for stealing weapons from those he bested but also lost to;
    thus catching an eye with Exdeath hiring him on as a general, but when failing, gets tossed into the rift, allowing him to time travel and becoming immortal.
    He wanders around, testing other warriors; eventually seeking the pits again, where he gains a new sense, throwing away his old weapons, and keeping the one that seems to always find him, Excalipoor.
    When Odin frees him, and gifting his sword; Gilgy takes on a more supportive and mentor like role, teaching and training warriors as oppose to fighting them.
    Maybe even the Pirate, Mecha, and King, could all tie in as time travel shenanigans he got up to while in the rift

    In Mobius FF, Gilgamesh confirms that he knows various warrior of lights from different worlds, even know Cloud himself, as he compared the WoL(the player character) to Cloud having the same personality. I think he also mentioned Squall. I think this is worth to be noted as to the connections of Gilgamesh and his influence to the franchise.

    In FF7, when the party fights Scarlet and Heidegger just before Hojo, the two Shinra executives get into a large mechsuit called the Proud Clod, which resembles Gilgamesh to a tee. It has four arms, a large weapon attached to its back and, most noticeably, the standard red and yellow color scheme Gilgamesh has throughout the series. Also, a "clod" is defined simply as "a stupid person". By calling it the Proud Clod, Square could have been referring to Shinra, but they were also likely referring to Gilgamesh's goofy nature

    To begin, this video was FANTASTIC. My favorite of yours so far.
    However, one point of potential disagreement. I do think that Gilgamesh was referenced in the original FF6, prior to his more traditional appearance in FF6 Advance. I think that Seigfried is a Gilgamesh-lite. Seigfried was a character who had the name of an ancient epic hero, and was a buffoonish swordsman who went around seeking duels. He didn't have many arms, BUT he did have his head wrapped in a desert like fashion such as he appeared in FF8. We also see one of his eyes covered, as in many later iterations, as well.
    Just a thought!

      I have to second this. I distinctly remember that fight and it just screams "Gilgamesh!" to me. I'm pretty sure that Seigfried did the whole "Excalipoor" gimmick too. If that's not a sure sign that he was meant to be FFVI's Gilgamesh, I don't know what is.

    I know its not gilgamesh but in 10 the summon yojimbo shares some qualities with gilgamesh. Its more like ff8 gilgamesh were it was support with a random attack every time he was summoned. Yojimbo also was summoned with a little dog like partner. I know the big main difference is he is based on how much you pay him but he has a couple attacks that vary upon how much is given. One move in particular that makes me think of yojimbo like gilgamesh (other than his partner) is the fact that he has a random chance to use zanmato the same way as gilgamesh could in ff8.

    I like to believe that gilgamesh is the same character in every game, the lore in certain games like 15 call that into question but it's cool to think about. His appearance makes me think that in each world his appearance changes, kinda like in kingdom hearts where worlds like atlantica, halloween town, and monstropolis change sora and the gang into mer people, stitch puppets and monsters respectively, the only difference being that gilgamesh only varies slightly like with number of arms and clothes in games like 8 and 12 or in other worlds it could be more drastic like in ff9.

    I'd love the idea of a Gilgamesh story line. I've seen a theory before that after Gilgamesh collectes 8 of the most powerful weapons he can then open the dimensional rift to another game (Characters could give the ultimate weapons over to him after the game as they no longer need them, if people see that a plothole).
    I'd see ff9 to be his home world and his base form and his youth, there he would steal the Gengi armour and the best weapons in the post game. Understanding how he opened the rift and having a new body type and look, we would challenge others to duels for their weapon as he became more skilled with weapons.
    Everytime he would feel like he is done with exploring a world he would complete that world's relevant set and go to the next.
    TYPE-0 would come when he is tired of travelling but then became immortal. He would give up on the throne and search for a way home after the death of his "brother" Enkidu.
    Worlds visited after this would be any of the worlds that did not include Enkidu. After failing to return home many times Gilgamesh arrives in ff15 with all his playful nature drained from him over the thousands of years and causing the change in character. With the non liner timeline of his story this could be the end point and any new games could come out giving a new chapter in any stage of his life without being to restricted in what they could do with him.

    A new iteration of Gilgamesh is on the title screen of War of the Visions, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius - he is a mysterious Winged One who may or may not be a time traveller and has passed out powerful relics to aid certain kingdoms within the game world. His first open appearance in the story shows him coming down from the havens and casting Flash to split the earth and end a major conflict. Also, he is a playable character, but the most rare, difficult and expensive to upgrade towards max level. Quite different from the character’s history it seems, but one of the gifts the player receives when starting the game currently is Excalibur, which has a matching design to Gilgamesh’s armor.

    Still a very good video. Very thorough. I still maintain that all the reoccurring characters (Cid, Biggs, Wedge, Mog, Gilgamesh) should all have their own game. Like "Final Fantasy: Journeys Through the Rift" or something. Just a game where Gilgamesh is exploring different worlds and mucking about, and your core party members are other reoccurring characters. A version of Cid, Biggs, and Wedge, and a moogle named Mog. Ah it'd be great.

    The way the cape drapes in FFVIII, it looks like Gilgamesh has lost the 3 arms that are represented by the cut-outs. There only appears to be one arm under that cape; it doesn't bulge enough to be all 4. Perhaps he lost those arms while traveling through the rift, or maybe he temporarily lost them as a result of his last battle in FFV? A third possibility is that Gilgamesh was standing in the proximity of where Zantetsuken sliced open the dimensional rift, and those three of his arms were cut off by the sword at that precise moment. He takes a moment to hastily make some fake arms and attaches them where his arms would have been, on the outside of his cape. The cape is there to cover both his injury and the shame of losing his appendages.

    Having two arms and wielding the War of The Vision's variant of Excalibur along with a blue colour design and wings most likely to reference Enkidu, Gilgamesh actually turned out to be a former member of the Sworn Eight, the Veritas of the Frost.
    The Sworn Eight are a whole different subject to unpack and are explained in quite decent detail in the story mode of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.
