I really wish more boat channels showed the nitty gritty of owning a boat. Living at sea in the Bahamas or Caribbean seems soooo glorious and nice and relaxing but yall keep it real. The maintenance, constant money being spent, getting water, lack of storage food space and such is not for the weak. I am the weak lol so I get to live vicariously through you guys
😂 It is honestly not a very easy life to live, but we wouldn't trade it for the world! We are so glad we can take you along on this journey with us, sharing the good times and the bad 🙂 Thank you for being here with us! ⛵🎉
Honestly, I love this type of video just as much as the social media highlight reels. It’s great seeing you guys really lean into the lifestyle, and sharing the little annoying bits keeps the reality forefront. Michaela, I’d 100% buy a sticker of your watercolor painting! Patrick, I got anxiety when I saw you working on that engine just over the water. I would have dropped my tools in the soup for sure! 😂 Thank you guys for sharing your journey with us every week. I know I look forward to your videos. 🙏🏻
We are so glad to hear it! As fun as the highlights are, we like to share the whole lifestyle, if for nothing else than it is honest 🙂 Thank you so much for the kind words about the art! It is always a little scary working over the water but you just have to do it! We really appreciate you being on this journey with us! Always look forward to hearing from you every week 😊⛵🎉🍀
It's the everyday video that I really enjoy actually. I love the white sands and clear water ones of course, but the realistic vids keep me coming back! Thank you for sharing your story.
That is great to hear! It seems like there is plenty of room for it all, the mundane and the far too exciting 😂 We really appreciate having you here with us! 🎉⛵
You are far too sweet! Always happy to meet up if we ever end up at the same place, you know we will always be out on the water 😂 Thank you so much for being part of our adventure, we really appreciate you being here with us! ⛵🎉🙂
I loved your watercolor!! It took me years to not be heavy handed and do multiple glazes, but you did it! The texture also FANTASTIC!! Love all the projects and watching make your boat into a home for the two of you❤️❤️❤️
Check the props not damaged check the vertical shaft is straight and the bearings are good , but check your plugs and leads to make sure they are firing consistently if the motor uses a coil and distributor check the condensors not breaking down. Loved the Manta ray... Marlin make great subjects as the shift colours when hunting.
We just recently replaced the prop, so that should be good! We will have to do a little more looking into it, but right now it is actually running better after swapping the o-ring that connects the carb to the airbox. The previous one was far too large! Thanks so much for the kind words! We really appreciate you being on this adventure with us! ⛵🎉
Glad to hear it, because we are always just working on this boat 😂🙂 but that is part of boat life! Thank you so much for the kind words and continued support! ⛵🎉
Thank you so much for the kind words! We are out here just trying to be our authentic selves and sharing the highs and lows along the way! We really appreciate you being with us on our adventure, always gives us a smile to see your name pop up in the comments! 🎉⛵
I love these ‘life on the anchor’ videos. You included a bit of everything I enjoy - food, art, routine chores, and boat work. I’d totally buy a t-shirt with that manta!
So glad you enjoy them! We love to share all parts of our adventure, and sometimes it just looks like this for us! That is good to know! We have some merch coming out soon, maybe that makes it in the next season! Thanks for watching! 🙂🎉⛵
Most people recommend mounting your epirb outside next to your helm. If your boat sinks, the epirb won't do much good at the bottom of the ocean. Just a thought.
Interesting! Ours is mounted just on the inside of our door which is right next to the helm. Will have to think about it some more and see if we should move it! Thanks so much for the tip! 🎉⛵
Hi Patrick and Michaela... Better late than never to pop in and say hi!! It's been a busy day and I'm getting a late start to watching one of my favorite sailing channels.. I think the whole grocery shopping thing whether on a boat or at a house on land is over rated and frustrating, first you have to put your groceries in the cart, take them out to scan and pay, load em up in bags, take them to the car and load em up, unload, then into the house/boat to be put away.. It's exhausting to even think about 😅 And it doesn't matter if you're on land or sea, there are always chores and maintenance to do.. ugh... :) Thanks for taking us along with you even on those days that aren't so much fun, it's reality and that's not always glamourous!! Looking forward to next weeks video!! Have a good week.
Not late at all! Thanks so much for being here with us! Yes, when you break down some of the basic chores it honestly is crazy that we havent figured out a way to improve this process 🙂😂 We really appreciate you being on our adventure! Thanks for watching! 🎉⛵
This was an awesome episode! Real life is always fascinating to others because for each, the other's experience is so much different from our own. Also liked seeing the pertinent videos more than once in the preview and main event modes, that is not seen often by creators. Also liked seeing the fast motion water color creation, looking forward to seeing the baluster go into the galley! 🖌
Thank you so much for the kind words! We try to just authentically show what it is like to be on a boat, so we are so glad you are enjoying our adventure and how we are sharing it. Thank you so much for being here with us! 🎉⛵
Wow that's crazy You said you'll be heading back out for the Caribbean in a couple weeks The time sure has flew by for me I'm sure probably not for you guys. I don't blame you for not wanting to make water out of the Chesapeake Bay especially there like you said with all the boats that are coming in. Your artwork is amazing, I didn't think I can even draw a straight line but it's beautiful another gift that you have. Enjoy the boat show as always God bless and stay safe out there
Indeed! Time certainly does seem to fly by! I think we will take our time heading south though to make sure we dont get too exhausted before hitting the bahamas! Thank you so much for the kind words, we really enjoy hearing from you Kris! The adventure wouldn't be the same without you! ☺⛵🎉
That is so good to hear! It is such a blessing to get to share art in a way that connects with others. Thank you so much for being here on this adventure with us, we really appreciate it! 🎉⛵
Great to see a day in the life of . . . Day to day life is part of sailing . . Tbh id rather see the work that goes into it than just sailing . . The freezer is going to make such a difference . . Till next time take care . . Bye from NZ👋🇳🇿👍🍻twa
So glad to hear it! We just love to share every part of the adventure, good, bad, fun, boring, it is all part of the life! We can not wait for the freezer, will be an absolute game changer for us! We always look forward to hearing from you, thank you so much for being part of our adventure! ⛵🎉🍻🍀😎🌅
No kidding! After getting them from literally everyone we met we knew that we needed to get some 😂 Thank you so much for joining us on another week of adventure! ⛵🎉
I am not a wanna be sailor. Confident my motion sickness would be overwhelming and at 62 not practical. I watch multiple big and small sailing channels. You are my favorite. Your art is beautiful!!!
Boat life is about a lot of things including the daily living things that most dry landers forget we have to do. I do miss the things that made the entire experience enjoyable but at 85 I can no longer do. Wish I had started at your ages. Enjoy life.
It is all encompassing! I don't think it is all that different than land life, maybe with a couple tweaks of things like focus on the weather, but there are also a lot of highlights! Thank you so much for being with us on our journey, it really means a lot to us! 🎉⛵
You’re smart not using the water maker in the ICWW or any inland waters. The membrane is designed to remove salt. Just a tiny amount of oil or other pollutants will kill the membrane. When we had the boat yard, we replaced many membranes for sailors who “knew better than the damn experts”. The water maker on our last Prout made great tasting water for over 10 years with zero maintenance other than changing the raw water filters. You are right about needing a freezer. If you can make one fit, we found the top opening freezers to be more efficient than the front door type. Enjoy the boat show.
We are very protective over our water maker! it is honestly such a game changer in off grid living that we couldn't imagine life without it! Which water maker did you have on your Prout?!? Are you still on her? That is good to hear! That is the style of freezer that we are going with, can't wait to share it shortly! ⛵🎉
@@patrickandmichaela In 1987 there was not much choice, it was mostly DIY. We used a Clark hi pressure pump, sourced the membranes and valves, regulators, etc. from FCI. Later, when we had the shipyard, we sold Katadyn and Village Marine. I left the sailing world in 2010 after almost 50 years of sailing and 30 years living aboard. Loved every second of it. Family members needed caring for and at 76, being in the middle of an ocean alone is probably not the best idea. If the bug to get back on the water bites, my business partner has a big monohull that doesn’t get a lot of use.
I have no idea! It had to have been a few birds, and I have to imagine they were pretty big! Someone needs to get them some probiotics though because WOW that was a disaster! Thank you so much for being with us on another week of adventure! 🙂🎉⛵
It is a never ending list, always growing, of stuff to work on, some small and some large lol Thank you so much for the kind words! We can't wait for the sailboat show, should be a blast! Thanks so much for joining us on our adventure! 🎉⛵
Seemed like they roamed boat to boat just wrecking everyone's dinghy! I think the boat show pushed them all out from their normal homes near the docks 🙂
😂 We will see! First it will be a fridge, then an ice block, and eventually he will be putting a marble block on the front of the boat to make a masterpiece 😂 Thanks so much for watching! 🎉⛵
Have you tried running premium fuel with the additive that removes ethanoyl? I noticed a difference in my 200hp yamaha OB. I only use mid to premium in small engines now and the boat. Plus a couple times in the summer months I'll add a can of Sea Foam each to my 2 20gal tanks. Makes the '06 Yamaha purr. Maybe the fuel/oil mixture. Also After each use I'll remove all 6 spark plugs and clean them with a small wire brush with parts cleaner. Hope this helps.
We usually run ethanol free fuel! We just grabbed some Marvel Mystery Oil, so may give that a try! Fixing an o-ring seemed to really help make a difference between the carb and the airbox. Seems like the one that was there was oversized! We also have swapped the spark plugs, and do pretty often just to make sure we are not adding in too many variables when fixing things, since they seem to foul pretty quickly! Thanks so much for watching! ⛵🎉
I think it was an air leak! We recently replaced the o-ring between the carb and the air box and the one that was installed was way too large to let things sit flush. It is now running much better. We have the default fuel filter and have cleaned that but there was not much in it, but are thinking about installing a prefilter. Thanks so much for taking the time to help us out! 🎉⛵
Thank you for having us over, it was so great to get to hang out! Oh No! We started raising our dinghy to keep the birds away, but it seems like they are still terrorizing the area 😬 I believe Dylan and Teresa also were hit two days in a row and now raise their dinghy too 😂 Someone suggested some rubber snakes in the dinghy could help 🙂
Never mind a new dinghy line, a dinghy cover might be a better investment lol Gutted for you both that a bird used it as target practice; but on the plus side I do hope you saw the funny side of it! Neurodivergent side of my brain has to offer a "fix" for the future ... If you ever suffer bird mess in the dinghy again maybe it would be easier to empty it of stuff, remove the motor and then hang it up from a davit to then hose it down? That way you can remain on Thalia (so less likely to suffer motion sickness) plus you don't necessarily need to get quite so up close and personal and can avoid the worst of the odour. Fingers crossed though it never happens again! Unfortunately I won't be at the boat show myself. Slight problem of being on the wrong side of the Atlantic for me lol Maybe in years to come I might make the flight over .. I've always wanted to get to KSC (and now Boca Chica as well!) and my youngest wants to go back to NYC after a visit last year as part of a skiing trip (so dad (me) is under orders to save up to take him skiing again lol). Another couple of practical ideas where I've had similar experiences and needed to sort out the same issues; For the fridge with the freezer unit one option could be sticking your fridge stuff into a bag that you could put into a bucket of water which should keep things cool. Then either let the ice melt naturally or use a hair dryer if you're able to use one without overloading your batteries. Good to hear you talk about water use and the issues of whether to manually carry from the shops and reload tanks, or to get a water filtration system. Personally speaking I would look into the water filtration system as modern ones are really good at removing impurities that your concerned about. Maybe if you're able to find a couple of boat owners who use a system then you could see what they experience with their systems? When I was travelling around Asia a lot of places were introducing reverse osmosis systems in to provide drinkable water and these systems can be really good. The other thing to think about is what happens if you find yourself in a more remote place and stuck for a bit? Having a water filtration system in a remote place could prove useful when anchored at remote islands. And those boat cards I'm sure are long overdue for you guys! Hopefully they'll also help you organically grow your YT subscribers as people meet you both and decide they want to follow the experiences of two lovely human beings 😎
That is an interesting idea! We generally love our dinghy chaps but much worse to get the bird droppings off of fabric than just rubber. Hopefully we can just steer clear of the birds in the future, but if I had to guess it won't be the last time! It is a long trip across the pond for just a boat show, but if you can line up seeing NYC and a few other places at the right time it may be worth it! Seems like a pretty packed boat show with a ton to see! That is an interesting idea for the fridge! So we do have a water maker, and in more remote locations the water quality is usually great so its much easier to just turn it on and have water. Having a post filter system may make us feel a little better about water in general though! We are so happy to finally have boat cards! It makes it so much easier to connect with people when you just happen to be passing by in a dinghy 🙂 Always so nice to hear from you! 🎉⛵🍀
@@patrickandmichaela well I hope my idea is one which proves useful. If not then at least relegate it to the list of potentials for when you're enjoying Sailing Doodles YT income and y'all are big and famous lol I want to plan in visiting some of the UK's boat shows first as we have some pretty big ones. For info, I'm now also researching about the different RYA courses as I'm becoming more motivated to get actually onto a boat and gain some proper certification! Hopefully I can then prove that I'm not likely to drown people through incompetence! How is the water maker with electric usage? I imagine that you would have to plan in when to use it and when not to use it based on demand on your panels? As for a post filter system? Could this be dealt with through the use of a cartridge filter system? I have one at home where I run tap water into a container which then filters the water to take out the worst of the chemicals that make their way through the pipe system into the house. I imagine you could pick that sort of thing up from Walmart (or equivalent) and you only need to replace the filters once a month. Buy a box of filters and you're set for ages whilst you go sailing. Just a thought lol
😂 Yes yes, once we are famous youtubers 😂 I have heard great things about the RYA courses, certainly worth going through it to get out on the water! I couldn't really tell you the watermaker electric usage because so far we have always ran it off of the generator instead of the inverter. It is what Kasper did, so it is what we do, even though it should run without it. I think we could get a post filter system going as well, but so far we have just tossed a bit of bleach in the tanks once in a while and haven't really had any problems. Would be nice to get some minerals back into the water though!
Hey Patrick.. the keys I noticed a float on there but I have a question for you have you tried to see if the float floats all the keys on there.. like in a bucket? Keep up the great attitude you guys have it will carry you through anything ❤
We have tested it and they do float! My aunt and uncle also mentioned something similar to us pretty early on 😂 Thank you so much for the kind words and continued support of our adventure! 🎉⛵
Interesting! I was talking to someone who said the fiberglass hard top should not effect the signal at all. Will have to look into it more, thanks for the help, we really appreciate it! 🎉⛵
Who is going to be at the Annapolis Sailboat show!?! We will be there so please reach out and say hello (and get some Thalia stickers!) ⛵🎉
Hoping we run into you guys around the show!!

I enjoyed having drinks the other night. It appears you sent the birds over to my dinging 😢.
Another couple of practical ideas where I've had similar experiences and needed to sort out the same issues;
For the fridge with the freezer unit one option could be sticking your fridge stuff into a bag that you could put into a bucket of water which should keep things cool.
If not then at least relegate it to the list of potentials for when you're enjoying Sailing Doodles YT income and y'all are big and famous lol
I want to plan in visiting some of the UK's boat shows first as we have some pretty big ones.
😂 Yes yes, once we are famous youtubers 😂
I have heard great things about the RYA courses, certainly worth going through it to get out on the water!
Is that a pick-a-nick basket, boo-boo bear?😂
😂 Uhhhh, Sure! Nothing but an average bear over here 🙂 Thanks for watching! ⛵🎉
Oh man! Nobody likes dung on their dingy. Dam birds. That was borderline criminal😂
No kidding! I feel like those birds owe us for what they did 😂 Never what you want to wake up to 🙂 Thank you for watching! 🎉⛵
Your Starlink will have an issue under your cover. It needs to see the sky where the satellites are
Interesting! I was talking to someone who said the fiberglass hard top should not effect the signal at all. Will have to look into it more, thanks for the help, we really appreciate it! 🎉⛵
❤😊
🙂☺🍀 Thank you so much for being here on this adventure with us! ⛵🎉
TO THE BAHAMAS !
We can not wait! Thanks so much for watching! 🎉⛵
Vids are aok
Thank you 🙂⛵🎉
Pelicans and cormorants are THE WORST!!
No kidding! I really think it was them and maybe a duck or two. A whole crew just wrecking our whole dinghy! Thanks so much for watching! ⛵🎉
