During his brief, but somewhat successful mining foray my friend picked up a z87 msi on ebay, came in a box, wrapped in a towel fresh with hairs in it and everything. I was in absolute hysterics.
Sounds like a Z97 board I got on eBay. Shit was molested by dogs prior to shipping I swear. Cleaning and testing revealed a dead board. Thankfully after some prodding the guy was reasonable and refunded me enough for a new board (also came with a cpu, ram, ssd, which did work)
GoodPoint about preheating the PCB, I recall something about the NASA-STD 8739-dot-something, saying something about doing that for I think it was 24 hours in a humidity controlled environment before soldering. I don't go that far, lol, I have an electric griddle that I have set to 180F (82c) and once the board is close to that, I solder away. One thing is that electric griddle is ONLY for that (and hot glue art), and is never for food, never had food on it (except the bottom of my coffee cup possibly when it was unplugged, lol.). I'm not sure I would subject the electrolytic cans to that kind of torment tho, so computer boards I would not bother preheating for the most part. And they tend to lift the PCB up far enough that the griddle won't heat the PCB that well anyway. Life is good when thermal reliefs are put in the PCB traces for soldering stuff, it's a shame some PCBs don't do that on large power planes. Great vid Buildzoid. B)
12:20 LPT solder tip: preheat entire board to 50C when dealing with boards that want to sink all your heat. Suddenly you'll be able to solder everything fantastically!
Hey, thanks for your video! Could you please upload some sort of high quality picture and/or schematics of the power mod? I just want to make sure I´m getting it right.
do you know how to fix coil whine? i know it is the inductor that has coil in them and not 100% glued, thus cause vibration. will adding caps helps that? or i have to open those inductor up and fill with silicion glue
is this a morpheus 2 and does that cooler fit all 10 series cards or what? thinking of getting something for a 1070 ti zotac mini that could use some extra cooling. also if you unhook the gpu fans does the gpu go into safe mode or anything crazy or does it ignore it? there are adapters to use standard 120mm fans with the gpu fan header arent there? mini 4 pin pwm gpu header or something like that? or i can use motherboard fan headers in a pinch of course
Be aware of how big the cooler is though. With 2 120x25mm fans installed it's more than 4 slots thick and quite long. You can hook up normal 120mm fans to the gpu fan header via an adapter and no, even if you leave all fans disconnected from the card it will not lock up.
Have you checked with an oscilloscope if those capacitors actually have a positive effect? Even if you can't film the mod process you could make pictures like that or steps with the shunt mod and that could be edited in later. Also having a base line score would've been good to have to see the improvements in the future.
yeah I've messed around with doing that. At the time I was using really bad probing technique but the mods can definitely help a bit sometimes. I'll definitely do some more testing on it.
hi you said you were going to install EVGA bios on this, can you tell me if it worked and what version of the bios you installed, also did the evga software recognise it as a evga card? thanks
Just got a r9 fury and was wondering should I flash your bios on the card and is it safe for 24 7 use. Idk if this matters but it is the nitro. Or if it isn't safe for 24 7 use anything that u can do?
Do you see any degradation in frequency or timings on your teamgroup ddr4 kit due to running them on high voltage? How many hours did you use them on high voltage and what voltage exactly?
3/4 way sli and crossfire, are not supported in games anymore, but there are bioses for 3 and 4 way for synthetic benchmarks. thats why you can get 3 card and 4 card hall of fame scores.
I have a question? I noticed all the Ryzen LN2 OCing records are stupidly under volted. Like 0.3V, is that really what what people do to get high clocks on LN2 for zen? or is that just a bug?
2 qwestions 1: is a bronz rated power suply decent for overclocking 2: should a asrock ab350 pro4 be good enough to handel a ryzen 3 1200 at 3.8Ghz @1.275v?
Yeah, PSUs and mobos only matter if your maxed out on CPU and GPU (3600 or 3700X/9700K/2080 or 2080 Ti), because many times you can just go up a tier in your cpu or gpu for that much, and OC these days most certainly doesn't give +20% perf.
Zarcon, warm air still cools cards. Even if it's 100F in a shed with cards, the cards are still significantly hotter so the air will still remove heat.
My 1080 KFA fans dies in less than 6 months. They were ran at 80% all the time. Replaced them with 2x120mm industrial fans. 30 deg C lower temps now, but loud as hell hehe its a miner so who cares.
Give Der8aur a card he wants to see how much he can overclock it. Give buildzoid a card, he wants to turn stuff off.

I had this thing at close to 60C. Didn't really make a difference.
@@ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking How low does your over go?
looking forward to RTX mods and overclocking buildzoid ! keep the Vids Coming
i like the new camera. nice picture quality. still love your vids
I enjoy all you're videos information.
1080ti gamezoid edition
20:40 You want PCB lacquer and not plastidip for coating boards. You can solder through it AND it's transparent. You won't look back after you do!
Heh, saw you buy this on Reddit and just KNEW you were going to pull it apart!

That 3 min "outro" :D
Thank you "Buildzoid" 👌

Hi How is the Coil Whine on this one without V-Sync?
I would like to buy one or two of your modified functionally cards.
do you know how to fix coil whine? i know it is the inductor that has coil in them and not 100% glued, thus cause vibration. will adding caps helps that? or i have to open those inductor up and fill with silicion glue
Alan Xu I just hot glued the whole inductor section and it do help a lot
yup hot glue/high temp silicone should be enough
Yes, adding caps reduce the Ripple current on the inductor but it depends and won’t help much.
If you get bored one day and don’t care get some break clean and canned duster & go to town on the old cooler lol
I liked the men cap mod one of the more interesting ones

I'm not sure that it fits ALL 10 series cards but I do think it should fit most of them.

You show PCBs so you should consider 4K so we can see all these details.

those BIOSs are now really out dated. I would not recommend them.
@@ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking too bad thanks for the response though
Can you compare the morpheus 2 against the stock heatsink with a pair of 120mm fan on?
Awesome content :D.
Hey buildzoid. Could cards with capacitor mods run daily for gaming?
yep definitely. I ran a cap modded Fury X for ages and ages in my daily. Even right now the mobo in my daily has cap mods on the back of it.

Hi, does anyone know the thickness of the thermal pads?
do you make roi on the content you produce for the more expensive products?
So no one I've seen has covered this but how is their a hall of fame score with 3 rx vega 64s? I thought they didn't support more than 2 way

Hey Buildzoid, do you where one might find extra morpheous 2 fan brackets?
no idea
If you have a receipt Raijintek will ship you some missing parts if you put in a support ticket.

Depends on the Specific unit but probably
Yes
He could have ran the fans at 100% for all those 8 months and that will cause fans on cards to start dropping off.

A good fan like a delta or a Sunon will straight up work for over a decade easy (continuously).
what thermal paste are you using ?
Kryonaut extreme, Kingpin cooling.
Does it matter what size wire you use for the bridge?
For power, most definitely the thicker the better. Data or non power stuff not really
