  • I noticed water dripping onto the passenger floor, ended up having a blocked AC drain hose. Ended up drilling a hole to access the hose. This video should help with location

    What a beast to get to, however, I got lucky. Here is what happened after gaining access to this area, I put a flathead between the bottom lip of the duct and body/pan and turned/raised the duct in a "jiggly" fashion. Not too much but enough to "vibe" the thing and presto! Water came pouring out from under the vehicle and did so for about 3-5 minutes. Took it for a drive with ac on full and it seems to have been just enough to unclog the damn thing for now.
    I have reservations about drilling into the duct at this point as I see on a few boards that people have hit the ac refrigerant lines and totaled the system.
    I found this fix quite by accident and have to admit it may not last long, depending on what the clog was caused by, but I'm good for now and if it clogs again access is easy and I will go full monty with making a hole as described in the video for access.
    If this occurs I think I will try a heat boring method rather than drilling to try and mitigate the chance of damaging the line set.
    Figure a torch and heating a bolt to then press onto/into the duct should do it.
    Just my findings. The video helped a lot btw. I had torn into the dash etc previously going on some info from the boards that was similar but in the end I was way off. Where you see this guy has drilled is exactly the sweet spot that needs to be worked.
    Good Luck everyone and damn you Jeep for engineering this mess into the vehicle. It's plainly obvious they did so when you get into it and hit every one of the obstacles put in the path of a DIY repair.

    Just to add too this "and this video was very helpful" I didn't drill the box, I drilled the side of the transmission tunnel 2" below the bottom edge of the box 3/4" bit right were you did.
    Then stuck and angled air blow gun in the drain and blew it clear. I am running a rubber tube up from the bottom so in the future it doesn't drain in the insulation, which appears to be rusting the floor. Needle nose pliers can slip the 1/2" tube on the drain pipe. A 3/4" body plug from NAPA popped right in. I silicon-ed the plug for leak reassurance. Good luck all! Thanks for the video guide!

    This works, Excellent fix. To keep the coin from clogging up the drain again I put some flexible thin tubing in the drain hole and siliconed it to the plug I used. This should keep the coin from ever plugging up the drain again making it a permanent repair.

    I thought I might try to add a comment in case it might help anyone. One tip is the hole was exactly below the little line that sticks out that runs vertical. I didn’t have any luck with my clog even after using an air compressor. I was able to get tubing about the size of the hole about two feet long. I slide it down into the hole. I filled the tubing with water and then blew on it really hard and that’s what actually ended up releasing the clog. And another note, if you’ve just driven the car the silver tubing next to the hole will be very hot.

      About how big was the tubing you used?

    I drilled a hole there but I don’t feel a drain hole anywhere? Stuck a stiff wire in there and it feels smooth all the way around.

    Hey quick question do you drill inside the drain line mine is leaking aswell

  • @tedg3721
    @tedg3721 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    SO is THIS the cause of the nasty manure/moldy smell that mine has now taken on?
    I can't figure out where the life of me it is! so if I do this method, and fish around in there and find if it's clogged on the inside, and if it drains out years worth of condensation, will the smell go away? otherwise I'm about to take a whole can of lysol aerosol, and spray it into the induct for where the air comes in near the windshield, where there was never a screen put in by the factory and put the heater on high and see if that helps after I do this method.

    How far back is the drain? When I stick a wire in mine after I drilled, it just feels like empty space.

    Hi people. I have a commander 2007 with out sunroof. It is leaking water from the rear inside mirow on top of the dash. So now it is leaking too from the right arm the one that we use to get in from the top screw. Like I said doesn't have a sunroof. But I noticed that it is not all the time that it is raining is just how the commander is park. If someone know about this and give me some advice please.

      +Tim Carn I can't say for sure, but you shouldn't have to remove anything, besides just getting access to that area

    question for you, when it leaked water was it on the right side, near the door? it pours from there on mine

    • @mrstang1977
      @mrstang1977  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Katie Warren it was on the passenger side, I don't remember exactly where it leaked from unfortunately anymore.

      mrstang1977 thank you! I have it on the passenger side just the puddle is closest to the door wasn't sure if it's the issue but I'm hoping it's this easy

    • @Fatterballs
      @Fatterballs 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your issue is easy pull up the plastic side board and the plastic wall that is connected to it pops right off. Lift the carpet and find the blue drain tube and pull it up then take a screwdriver and pop the rubber plug it was in clean it out put it back done

    I was going to say how the heck do coins get stuck in the drain line?!

    • @thisoldjunk5752
      @thisoldjunk5752 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My son treated the dash vents like a Vegas Slot machine. Coins fell through the hvac and came through the bottom where the air intake is.
