In fairness a lot of these are down to graphic limitations and limitations in general to the 2007/8 technology. WaW is mean to be a copy of CoD 4 but ww2 so a lot of things needed to be similar or identical. An some are for quality of life. For example the rear sight aperture on the garand is big so the player can see what they are shooting at and have a better field of view. But some are down to mistakes like the arisaka not using the type 2 grenade launcher. Despite all this it’s still my favourite CoD and the best CoD.

    • @Dexusaz

@@Dexusaz yes. If I was playing cod 2, CoD 2 big red one and CoD 3 for the first time right now never swing any CoD before CoD 2 probably would take it purely because of the different fronts. It just came into my mind that in GFL, Mica refused to put in weapons made by Imperial Japan (Nambu, Arisaka, Type 99,...) due to obvious historical reasons between Japan and China, but they at least made Type 100 a T-Doll for JP server exclusive which later added globally. Even then when Type 100 released on CN but under nickname like "Sakura".

It's like one of the Ten Commandments of firearms. "Thou shalt not use teacup grip on handguns"
For context, this grip is infamous for having terrible control over the recoil; and it can bruise your hands when it slams it back down into your palm. Plus on some models, the magazine release is on the bottom of the pistol grip; so you can easily discharge the gun while holding it.

1:07 - The Model 27 may not have been officially issued to U.S. Marines or U.S. Army soldiers during the Second World War, but surely a family member back home could have mailed one for their G.I. to use. I've heard and read stories of veterans whose families sent them guns from home to use in the field. Also, the Model 27 never appears in the campaign; it appears only in the multiplayer mode (it was included in multiplayer in order to diversify the pistols players can use). Its appearance in the game can't be said to be historically inaccurate since it doesn't appear in the campaign.
11:59 - Wow, that's a pretty egregious mistake. I wonder how the developers, modelers, and play-testers all missed that. I'm thinking they copied over a template (for lack of better word) without modifying the casing-eject variable (again, for lack of better word).
13:21 - In the case of the MP-40 dual magazine system - as well as many other attachments, like the aperture sights - it only appears in the multiplayer mode. The developers needed to have a variety of attachments to spice the gunplay and combat up, so they went with fictional but plausible modifications. Since these things don't appear in the campaign, the campaign can still be said to be decently historically accurate insofar as guns are concerned.
15:02 - This was a quality-of-life choice on the part of the developers, I'm sure. What fun would it be to play an action game in which the flamethrower, which is an iconic weapon, has only ten seconds worth of fuel? That'd be lame! The cool-down timer was the best way of balancing it out.

One thing I've never seen done right is the long scope on the 1903A1 sniper, the scope tube actually freely slides back and forth on the rings with slight resistance. It's made that way because the recoil would damage the internal parts of the scope so allowing the rifle to recoil separately from it was the best solution they had, the downside being you would have to slide your scope back into position between shots and the scopes were not particularly sturdy. The lack of iron sights is correct on many 1903 sniper models though.

Another issue with the Arisaka is the lack of its dust cover. It's sort of an understandable mistake; due to GI bring-backs having mismatched parts most examples here in the US lack their dust covers due to them not fitting quite right and causing issues with operation, but a properly matched rifle, bolt, and dustcover operates just as easy as a rifle without the cover. Of course, Japanese soldiers issued their rifles would have all matching parts, and as your gear was technically the Emperor's property basically being leant to you, no Japanese infantryman in his right mind would even LOSE his dust cover, let alone intentionally discard it. Plus, they work really well at keeping debris out of the gun.

There is no bolt catch on the M1919. It is a closed bolt system that doesn't lock open upon finishing its ammo. And even if it did, when you lift open the top cover in the game the bolt is show as forward. To reload it, you need to open it, put ammo on the feed tray and either close it and charge the bolt twice, or lift the feed pawl and put ammo under it, close it and then charge it once.

Also they gave them a Vampyr sight which was a monstrosity though the science behind it makes sense.

The Mosin should only have a curved bolt handle with the sniper scope equipped. A non PU Mosin’s bolt handle sticks out from the gun at a 90 degree angle. PU sniper mosins curved the handle down so it could clear the scope when firing. Even when the bolt handle is properly curved, it’s too short.
I’m also not sure the in game Mosin is based on the m38. It’s hard to tell from the footage but it looks too long for an M38. I remember them looking longer like a 91/30, when I saw them on the ground while playing the game. But I could be wrong on this one.
