Thanks for showing this method repeatedly. I'll be attempting to fix a broken USB-C port on my Keychron K6 very soon, and your video has given me the confidence I need to carry on with the repair.
@@user-ub7jb1vu3g Success, used a hot air rework station to remove the broken port and this drag soldering technique to place the new port in less than 10 minutes. The really tricky part is making sure that there are no solder bridges, but aside from that it was actually pretty straightforward.
surprised that the flux pen is doing enough. all the other videos i've been watching really goop on the flux and i didn't want that type of mess. might pick up a flux pen instead. what brand are you using in this vid?
Based on the blue cap and a quick Amazon search for "flux pen", it might be Kester brand. I'm sure No Clean and Chipquik are both fine brands for this also.
Omg i had to do this too port just fly off. I just add solder everywhere around XD it is solid but haven't tried testing because I did this befire going to sleep lol. Tommorow will know the truth Btw so you simply as title suggest need jusy to drag soldering iron and they attach right?
Damn I didnt know this could be done with just a soldering iron - fascinating how the pcb repels the solder. Embarassed that i sent my pcb off to have the port reattached - luckily the keyboard supplier didn't charge me any money for the repair.
@@offtheclack1629 can you just make them touch without flux? Just touching and securing around. I have some hard flux though. Can i just add it near it and move around? Btw the main idea here is apply hot flux to gently connect?

How do you remove the solder off a broken off usb c port? Theres left over solder in the pin/leg holes

You use a solder wick.
I use my desoldering gun...
Adding fresh solder before trying to remove it will make it easier (whether using wick or a gun).

Do I need to use flux even if my solder wire contains flux?
Most solder contains flux. Extra flux tends to make things easier.
