This Nintendo SWITCH has a BROKEN USB-C Port | Can I FIX It?

- This Switch is in pretty bad shape! The USB-C port has been completely ripped off the board, so it obviously doesn't charge and doesn't dock. It's going to need a new port and some teeny tiny trace repair.
Let's try and fix it!
Hope you enjoy!
Steve
PS. I'm not an expert in repairs at all. I do this for fun, and it may not be the best or safest way to go about repairing broken stuff. I'm pretty good at melting plastic though. Please don't copy me - I'm an idiot.

Another great fix. Not far off 60K now Steve. Soon be at 100K and its totally deserved. Couldn't have happened to a nicer fella.
I agree Steve for prime minister!😀
Thanks RB! 👍
1000% 😅 agree! Really Nice mate with great content. PS: "Our" Steve needs more views to get more £ to buy some Louis Vuitton cat protection gloves ehehe 😁. Btw when can we see the perpetrators of those crimes 🐈🐈😄
@@StezStixFix Sorry on the double post I messed up a bit as I'm not the greatest with TH-cam lol. Love your channel though as you are very enjoyable to listen to and watch solder as well!! I have a question : do you take requests if someone had a console and the parts and wanted you to do an upgrade or mod? I have a few consoles here but I had one in particular where I have an og xbox and was hoping to do a cap replacement as some are bulging but I suck horribly at soldering lol. So I was curious if I could send to you to do for a Future episode? If so let me know and we and can chat and thanks for your time mate!!
64k update.
Steve , your humor is absolutely awesome. I love watching you , you could be fixing a broken shovel and I would watch it . Keep up the the great content !
At this rate, the 100k subs will be reached in 32 minutes 😅(well deserved for such a great karaoke channel !). Merci Monsieur !
Damn, who would treat Switch like that, it's so dirty and messed up. Good fix, Steve!
Ι'm here for the singing. Seriously, though, love the good spirited approach, the humor and it's always nice seeing a battered console coming back to life.
I adore your enthusiasm.
Well done, Steve, because that looks like a well worn device that someone has used quite a bit, haha. Even that screen protector is looking rough.
😁 yeah, this was one well-used device that's for sure! Hopefully it'll give the owner a bit more use out of it now... 👍
I'll second that. Steve has a way of cheering me up even when I'm feeling crap.
I have watched so many of your videos now, I find them absolutely brilliant. I had a Nest Cam with a broken micro-USB port, came away from the board. Sat there for a year or so, with a view to one day fix it. After watching your videos, I got myself a microscope and a decent solder iron set, and copied what I have watched you do so many times. The nest cam powered up last night, and I am super chuffed. Thank you so much for your content, my only wish is that you could bring videos out faster, because I cannot get enough of them.
That Switch went to war! Great fix, and let's dream of a world where manufacturers put ports in little breakout boards...
That Switch look like it saved someone's life from a bullet!
Nice Fix Steve. Well Done! If you want to see TINY wires you should have a look at the vintage Ramtex Space Invaders game I just repaired. I had to solder the gold bond wires from an LED chip die back to the traces of the PCB. It was quite intense!
Wow them wires are tiny. Well done on your repair
Ooh, I'll have to check that out 👍
@@StezStixFix Thanks Steve. Your channel is really crushing it! Well done. Hopefully I'll get there too someday!
You can also use the helping hands to hold your mars bar, frees up your hands for soldering.
🤣 excellent idea!
Dunno where this channel comes from... It is my favourite now, binge watching everything
Your sense of humor is one of many reasons I keep coming back to your channel, Steve!
After watching many of your vids I actually opened a faulty digital picture frame and found the problem. Tiny cable had came loose deep inside the lighting of the led:s. Managed to solder it back and it works! 😎
You’re blowing up! You have 17k new subscribers since you filmed this. Awesome!
i wish i could see you clean the hard rock Thermal paste that was on before. Its always a pleasure seeing cleaning things before and after
This may be the best undiscovered TH-cam channel out there. It won't stay undiscovered long though. Great stuff
Glad you were finally getting some algorithm love. You went from two patreons to having a ton! Also gaining subs faster than anybody. Congrats! Your humor is right up my alley. Keep it up and say hi to Dave for me
Don't let anyone put you down over your singing! I love it man!
Honestly your singing is a highlight of the video for me. Your content is direct and to the point. It shows alot of what u need to know in order to do it yourself.
And the singing just helps u stand out from other videos. Quiry enough to be interesting. Not so great youd ever win an award but not so terrible u want to rip your ears out. A good balance.
BEST TH-cam CHANNEL EVER!
"stupid game" is probably the best outro one could ask for! specially if you actually enjoyed the gaming session.
I don’t know why but I’m sooo addicted to this videos
I’m not even very familiar with electronics in general because I work retail but maybe that’s why I am so fascinated
The almighty TH-cam algorithm has blessed me with your videos. I love the humor, and I love the editing style. Keep up the good work!
Wow! I'm so glad I found this channel. You're an absolute joy to watch. I even just bought some merch! And yes, please more singing.
I just found Your channel a few weeks ago & I love the format & the charm I like the vids that much I hit the like button twice 😁keep up the great work Ste..
4:49 "that look when you can't accept the compliment" - your singing is not perfect, granted, yet we all somehow appreciated that unexpected rap because it felt wholesome and that's were the singing compliments come from
Your tech skill is mad impressive. Thanks for showing me what I’d be getting into trying to repair my own port. Was wondering how to get the traces to reconnect (never seen a heat gun used for that). Also haven’t seen flux in that form (cuz I’m a soldering noob). Got some learning to do then I’ll try this most likely.
Perfect timing. My original switch just started showing these symptoms. Now I know what to diagnose. Thanks!
Seriously though i love your energy and way you present everything.
But what in all hell happened to that poor switch i looked so battered and bruised almost like someone threw it on the pavement out of rage
I class myself as a good solderer but then I watch you Steve. Nice work mate.
Went in like a Boss and Triumphed !! well done Sir.
Oh my! Your face and voice literally cure me! So sweet! Thanks so much Stez.
Just discovered this channel and it's instantly become one of my favorite music channels!
Fantastic fun to watch and yes you do have talent..???
Love your video’s top notch. 👍
I was able to fix my daughter's toy after watching your vids. Thanks, bud. Keep em coming!
love the new subscriber tracker in the background. Great channel
Can you please make a video where you show your tools and where to get them? The things that you are doing seem like so much fun!
I might try and do this myself, at least going to look at the USB C and see if there is any damage. Not sure what happened, so will need to find out. Great video!
Nothing is more satisfying to me than giving a dead a given up on console/game a new life. About two years ago i found a Nintendo DS in the dumpster. Took it home, swapped shell and battery, cleaned everything up and now it looks like in its best days and works like a charm :) (except for the screens which have a few dead pixels).
I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way!
That's awesome Stump! You literally saved it from the trash. It's such a great feeling. 👍
Greetings from Romania! So happy to find you, not getting borred anymore
I'm here to help the algorithm. Also, thanks for the USB-C Amp module, I'll have to add this to my IT Kit.
Your cleaning process is one of the most satisfying things in life…
+100 subs whilst filming!! NOICE!
😊 thanks Kip. 👍
"Get In There!" Victory screech aquired!
FeelsGoodMan Clap 👏
I love the videos Steve! I've been watching a bunch of your old stuff lately, but the sub counter on this one made me finally subscribe!
New subscriber here, and i'm already a big fan of your content. And your skills on applying the incorrect amount of thermal paste is spot on 😂🤣
Very talented. I love watching your videos. Very relaxing, and I like your sense of humor. I decided to subscribe! Keep it up!
Great video! I purchased a switch with the same problem from eBay without knowing it was broken and now the person won’t take it back I’m going to use your video to try and fix it. I not good at soldering so I’m a little worried.
Adding another 20.000 subscribers since filming this must be amazing. Your videos are like ASMR board repair I love it. Im think TH-cam recommendet your channel to me because I also watch the New York weirdo. His videos are not as relaxing thou.
You are getting better at this Steve, nice !!!
Sweet stuff Mr. Steve! Man you're flying too, genuinely couldn't of happened to a nicer guy
Thanks Phil, much appreciated! 👍
Great stuff Steve (and Dave). Thanks for the entertaining content, and for inspiring me to pick something up and try to fix it. Now if I could just win one of these ebay bid wars for broken consoles...
Thanks Ty, good luck with the bidding! It's a frustrating game, that's for sure! 😬
@@StezStixFix it's the worst pay-to-win experience I've ever had, yeah
@@yenchey3270 I feel you and the price quickly rockets to something that's not even worth it anymore. I've picked up friday/saturday garage saling for better chances. Occasional thrift shopping, but they've started marking things at eBay prices.
Awesome fix man, keep it up
Thank you so much for the effort of filming and editing the whole process of repairing! I never thought this would be so interesting and relaxing at the same time. I watch ‘em just before going to sleep they help out a lot ❤️ thanks again Steve
Hey Steve, you've inspired me to start fixing things because you make it look so much fun and rewarding!
Do you have any books you would recommend for complete beginners who are new to this? Thanks!
Found this channel a couple of weeks ago. Great content! keep up the good work !
You channel is growing at a phenomenal speed but no faster than you deserve.
Good to see you fix this rather battered up switch there great job on the usb c port & trace repair there Steve - nice 1 👍
Damn fine use of the world's smallest jumper wire....... With the world's smallest section of the world's smallest jumper wire.
Cracking video mate 👍
What do you set your hot air station to for heat?
Great video congratulations on your success mate 👏🏻👏🏻
Gr8 Fix as always. Funny like everytime.
For Info. Pin6 from the right wich is now loose is the "D-" signal for the usb 2.0 interface. so maybe usb connection will only work in one direction(of usb c port)
Always a fun fix to watch. I do like the "all of a sudden stopped charging" part - that thing looks roooooough!
Great work Steve. Thank you fore the great video.
Thanks Frederick! 👍
I love fixing things. And that’s why I love watching your videos.
Wow great videos!! I'm addicted. Your energy is awesome. Good fix
You're like a super Funny version of mymatevince. I'm so glad TH-cam recommend your videos to me . I subscribed you're awesome😁
I love your work and I've started streaming working on stuff thanks to you. Also making me want to edit it properly for youtube consumption.
I'm watching every video and just love every single thing about them! I hope to one day be a holy hand grenadier!
Great Job Steve, I honestly thought it wasn't going to get fully fixed but you did it!
U put incorrect amount of humor on dat switch... And I'm lovin' it.
I'm new to all this but loving your videos/channels and learning loads ..Can I just ask where you got your small test screen from which you tested the game
Hi Steve! Could you tell me where you got your 3rd party microscope arm? Looks so much better than the stock one. Awesome videos, keep it up!
hello Steve, good job " et voilà !!!" from a french viewer!!
Hey, your singing not only led me to subscribe, I also backed on Patreon.
This makes me wanna fix stuff like this, so satisfying
Forget the haters about your singing mate! You do you and they can stuff it. Keep up the videos! A suggestion for upcoming videos is to have your viewers send you some random broken things that you are not allowed to look at until you record the video. With the one rule that the broken item cannot be something improosible to fix, like a gutted SNES with half the chips gone or the board totally fried. Something a viewer has that used to work and for some reason just stopped.
I’ve learned a thing or too watching your troubleshooting process!
Thanks mate
Great video as usual. Also the haircut is on point!
The thumbnail got me good. For a moment there I believed that was Russell Crowe fixing electronics.
Great fix steve looking forward to how you handle the patreons when you have too many to say in one episode 👍👍👍😉
A lot of entertainment time and knowledge, and an amazing job as allways. Ty for take your time making videos for all of us.
Pd. Can i ask the brand/model of flux you use. Ty again.
Lol, love the music that came on while using the solder wick. More Device Mods! +1 sub
Dang it I don’t have my night cap ready 🤣😆keep up the great work
Nice job Steve and thanks for your video see you soon 👍
Certainly enjoyable fix, working on a WW1 Stenexa binoculars this evening, fancying a change o' pace from watches and computery things, tomorrow going to fire up my 1939 Mamod SC3 as I am just a child in an old geezers body :P
I love the singing. Its cozy and homely
Never change mate good stuff
Love the video Steve it has the incorrect amount of time :) 60k subs come on!
Thank you for your videos! It gives me the confidence to fix my own stuff. I usually don't break em too much either!
Good job, Steve. If you wanted to do a solder blob I would recommend not using the flux, that would make it easier to bridge the solder from the connector pin to the via. With the flux in the mix, it's going to be virtually impossible for solder to connect.
Love your videos - what is that gloopy stuff you put on the solder areas before you start soldering?
INCORECT amount of thermal paste! This is great, thank you!
New subscriber, here. I'm very much enjoying these videos. I find it interesting to see your process of figuring things out and increase your skills along the way.
I looked to see if you'd done anything with my favorite console, Sega Saturn, at any point, but was saddened to learn that you hadn't had any come up. I've avoided fixing my power problem with mine for a couple of years now, but it appears that there is a good kit from the UK that does the job (which is also used widely here in the US). I'm just too chicken to do it, so I'll probably just sell my setup on eBay. Continuing to cull through your library of videos and haven't found a dud yet!
12:02 and 11:42 are the best XD
great video as always!
I'd watch a let's play series from you 100%
If you notice, at the background there is a counter of subscriber. He posted the video today, and when he recorded it this channel had 41.8k subscribers. Today it has 59.1k!
Nice hair cut!
your new haircut looks dapper.
Good repair.
I noticed your using a unofficial dock /usb c extension cable to display a picture on the TV.
did you test the port bothsides?
also you don't need.to connect anything to the switch to boot, just the battery and the emmc.
you can just dock the switch, or use the ammeter to see if it's booting
Good info, thanks Gin! Yeah, I tested both sides and it worked like a dream. I also tested in an official dock off camera, and it's also good in there. 👍
great fix, got to say my hand would never be steady enough to do that microscope soldering work
I'm amazed it runs at all considering the number of dings on that internal plate.
People can't appreciate the good things in life, keep singing to us Steve.
