you can use toothpicks and cotton wool. a small piece of cotton wool is twisted with fingers at the end of the toothpick. you put this thing in a nail polish remover and clean the skin. for me, this is the most convenient way to remove nail polish from the skin😊

The Brazilian way is to first use a toothpick or a larger pick that they sell here specifically for nails, go around the nail as soon as you finished applying the nail polish on that nail, do one by one. Then rap a small cotton piece around the toothpick until it is very tight, dip it in the nail polish remover, and clean it up around the nail.

Use the brush to put a thin layer of petroleum jelly around the nail, on the skin. Especially if you're using a red polish because red stains the skin.
Honestly might be worth a try! I find cleanup to be a lot easier than application tbh, because you can take as long as you need to swipe the brush across, and keep repeating until you're satisfied with how it looks (whereas with nail polish you do have to work relatively quickly or else it'll get lumpy haha!)

my nail beds are so small that even a thin brush takes off a way too noticeable chunk of polish, so i usually run through it with a toothpick. the trick is just to get it cleaned off the nail plate and separate the bit that got on the skin from the flooding on the nail plate and remove that flooding, so when you put a top coat on it it anchors to the nail entirely
I always have people ask me if I get my nails done professionally. I literally just try to go as steady as I can for the first couple passes, then I clean it up with an old flat paint brush and voila! I’ve been following your journey with nails since 2017 and I think this was one of the first tips you shared
@@KelliMarissa Oh no! I experienced that with the black handle concealer brushes. The white handle works best for me. I also like the KBShimmer brushes as well as your Orly collab brush ;)
Tip if the polish doesn’t wipe away like the magic you see in videos and stains your hands instead… your hands are probably dry, and the skin is soaking up the polish/acetone before it can be picked up. Struggled with this for years lmao always moisturize the skin to create a barrier and be careful to dehydrate only the nail bed.
I use a cotton ear bud. I dab it in acetone and rub off any excess nail polish. I always have excess nail polish on my fingers because I'm not very good at painting my nails even though I've been doing it for 20 years :D
Imo, a hard tool like the other end of a cuticle pusher / toothpick does it better. You can somewhat “scoop” at the proximal nail fold to get the pooled polish out. Using a brush is great but you’d always remove more than you’d need to. If you don’t mind having some nail show, then it might be good enough for you.
The Brazilian way is to first use a toothpick or a larger pick that they sell here specifically for nails, go around the nail as soon as you finished applying the nail polish on that nail, do one by one. Then wrap a small cotton piece around the toothpick until it is very tight, dip it in the nail polish remover, and clean it up around the nail. Try using a nail file! I just lightly rub where I got the nail varnish on my skin (wet or dry) and it comes off super easy much easier than a brush since you don’t have to have a steady hand!
I agree! Can't understand why people use nail polish remover when this is a thousand times easier. It also helps to wash your hands a bit to soften it up. I find it important to let it fully dry, so I don't rub the wet polish around, instead of it just pilling off.
Btw I wanna add after you wipe the polish off with a brush n you let your polish dry... Please wash your hands shortly after. You wanna not have acetone stay on your nails any longer than you have to. I do this right after I take polish off anyway. Soap up the nails over n under rinse then use a paper towel to rub off any loose cuticles or skin particles that could make your polish lift.
Here's another tip, I do a manicure and then rub my hands down with Vaseline! Especially around the cuticle and around the nail, it helps with the cleanup, just like when you dye your hair,, I always put Vaseline around my hairline forehead and ears, it keeps the hair dye from getting where it shouldn't be
Saku the dialogue in this one has me laughing more than anything LOL. The conversation between Elias and Jonah is literally so natural, I forgot that it was you playing both of them! Your talent is incredible 🫶🫶
Start off by placing the brush down the middle of your nail and carefully push it towards the cuticle while the finger is slightly tilted downward then brush towards the free edge. You can then go back and carefully sweep the sides with the brush using the polish that’s there already. The second coat doesn’t need to go as far back. This is a really neat trick if the brush is the larger kind or if the brush is very flimsy. Also, start with the pinky on your dominant hand and work your way towards the thumb, then move to the pinky on your non-dominant hand and work your way towards the thumb on that hand if you’re clumsy and bump your nails when applying.
Girl, this trick is amazing! I never thought of that! Brazilian women need to it, because we use few cotton wraped up in a manicure stick, wich is frustrating sometimes (I ruined the nail polish many times). Can I use a clean nail polish brush? I'm curious about that now.
Kelli you are the most precise nail painter I’ve ever seen! This tip is helpful for the rest of us though. I find it difficult cleaning up my right hand using my non-dominant left hand.
Ah you might be on to something. My mother has been painting her nails for 60 years. Has RA for the past 25. Her hands are bent and crooked asf. Maybe THAT'S what caused it!
I have a tip! Put a little non toxic glue around your nail. Make sure there’s none on the nail, blow dry it, then just peel it off after you paint your nail!
@KelliMarissa Showering and washing my hair DESTROYS my manicure, so I would never get in the shower right after I painted my nails! I WILL pick off the polish that gets on my cuticles and skin, but first I use a very soft nail brush with some warm water and gentle soap at the bathroom sink to loosen and dislodge my "goofs." Works like magic!
My dad bought some dotting tools with a silicone point on the opposite end for a project. He gave me one and the silicone side works like a freaking charm for this! It’s good at cleaning up along the cuticle before the polish dries.
Or buy the white liquid glue that dryes clear or latex and make a border around your nails. Let it dry. Do your painting as sloppy as you want. Then peel the glue. Voila perfect nails ❤
This works well with regular nail polish so you can paint it on as sloppily as you want, but please try to be more careful with gels though. Obviously if you get gel polish on your skin clean it up, but try your best to not get in on your skin in the first place or else you can develop a gel allergy.
You should put cuticle oil on first, let it dry and then use acetone on just your nail before you put on your base or anything:) it can help your nails to be more hydrated despite using acetone and things on top of it.
Cool trick. I don't even try to stay in the lines when I paint my nails. LoL It really doesn't matter because any polish on the skin comes in on its own pretty easily. Natural skin oils help it fall off, as well as goats milk soap. I use hairspray, and while styling my hair, the hairspray also helps lift it from my skin. No effort at all. Simply washing my hands with goats milk soap and then applying hand cream lifts all the excess polish.
Or you can also get latex that comes in polishes too. Paint it around your nail on your skin, and then take if off easily when you're done painting your nails, and it takes off that excess of being sloppy. It's pretty fun
Ok. I am a nail tech. Gere us tge tip: 1. keep your hand downward so the gravity drags the polish away from your cuticul. 2. Empty your brush completely on one side and the other side empty at keast galf of it. It gives you more control. 3. Keep the brush a hair line away from cuticul.
Thats exactly what I do. But sometimes it still goes over because the hairline is hard to judge these days. My eyes are not as good as they used to be. The half brush thing I have always done, and it makes so much difference.
@@Lenergyiskey358 try pillowing technic. You put your brush away from your cuticul and push it back. You can search it on youtube. Nail hub has good videos for nail techs. You can find some great tips about painting and drawing on nails.
I use acetone with additive if I need additional cleaning up after top coat. I can't remember but I think I use straight acetone before, so the top coat adheres better? I don't paint my nails that often I can't remember lol
Honestly either works! I usually prefer to do it while it's still wet because I find it slightly easier to clean up, but some people swear by cleanup when the polish is dry! Test out both ways and see which you prefer 😁
Do I wait for the polish to dry first? How do I clean the brush afterwards? Dip it in more acetone, wipe it with some paper towel and then rinse it with water? Do I need to do something else? Soap?
That’s why I love gel manicures because nail polish starts drying and I it’s so much harder to remove from the skin than gel, plus I don’t have to worry about touching anything.
I usually use some Vaseline that I put around my nail with a cotton swab beforehand. After I’m done drying the nails out the extra nail polish comes right off (I use one of those manicure wooden sticks to get it off, doesn’t take much pressure or anything). Clean-looking nails without the irritation of the acetone!!
Great tip! I honestly prefer liquid latex since it dries significantly quicker, school glue can take up to 10 min to dry depending on where you live! But it's a very affordable option!
I'm a lil confused 😅 if I'm not good with a nail polish brush, what makes you think I'd be good with a regular paint brush dipped in nail polish remover? I'd probably keep accidentally taking off the paint that I actually want on my nail. 😅😅😅😅 this hack is a vicious cycle. I'll just stick to putting scotch tape around my nail and then peeling off the tape once I'm done painting. Thanks for the tip tho 😊

This works well with regular nail polish so you can paint it on as sloppily as you want, but please try to be more careful with gels though. Obviously if you get gel polish on your skin clean it up, but try your best to not get in on your skin in the first place or else you can develop a gel allergy.
Doesn't the cuticle oil make the nail polish lift quicker around the edges?
I like liner brushes for this because the angled end is easier to control😊
Yup...done this for YEARS in the salon. Great little hack! 💅
It's not a hack 😂that's how you are supposed to do it
@amber_Forever16 I know I'm a nail tech..I was agreeing...😃
🙄 .....good gracious! Who doesn't know this! I hit the video thinking there was a neat trick about nail polishing. Thank you and God Bless
try using vaseline/aquaphor around your nail before painting. its super easy to wipe off and wont dry out your nails!
Best tip I’ve even heard for nice looking nails. Thank you!
Or you can also get latex that comes in polishes too. Paint it around your nail on your skin, and then take if off easily when you're done painting your nails, and it takes off that excess of being sloppy.
It's pretty fun
This is definitely me but the clean up brush makes life waaayyyy better 😊 lol
This is funny, because we've all seen her paint her nails in real time swatches and they're usually flawless!! 😆
Ok. I am a nail tech. Gere us tge tip:
1. keep your hand downward so the gravity drags the polish away from your cuticul.
The nail painting was out of control! 😂 Thanks for the tip. ❤️
I use acetone with additive if I need additional cleaning up after top coat. I can't remember but I think I use straight acetone before, so the top coat adheres better? I don't paint my nails that often I can't remember lol
Definitely smart to use the additive haha my skin gets soooo dry from the acetone!
Do you wait until it’s dry or do you clean it right after you finish painting?
Honestly either works! I usually prefer to do it while it's still wet because I find it slightly easier to clean up, but some people swear by cleanup when the polish is dry! Test out both ways and see which you prefer 😁
Glad I learned to paint my nails as kid.
Do I wait for the polish to dry first? How do I clean the brush afterwards? Dip it in more acetone, wipe it with some paper towel and then rinse it with water? Do I need to do something else? Soap?
Why nobody thank about how beautiful is this nails polish??😍
That’s why I love gel manicures because nail polish starts drying and I it’s so much harder to remove from the skin than gel, plus I don’t have to worry about touching anything.
I usually use some Vaseline that I put around my nail with a cotton swab beforehand. After I’m done drying the nails out the extra nail polish comes right off (I use one of those manicure wooden sticks to get it off, doesn’t take much pressure or anything). Clean-looking nails without the irritation of the acetone!!
I love that color sis what color is that may I ask 💙💚💛❤️🧡
Oh thank you! It's Kelli's Solar Flare from the brand Orly, it's available at Ulta 🥰🥰
Bullshit! You have great fine motor skills! I can tell by how well you use the brush. Beautiful.
Love that color 😍
I remember you talking about this trick in a video years ago, and it was a lifesaver!
Thank you for all your awesome tips over the years
Oh yay I'm so happy to help 🥰🥰
Use white school glue around your nails. Peel it off when you're done painting. This will lessen the amount of cleanup you need to do with acetone.
Great tip! I honestly prefer liquid latex since it dries significantly quicker, school glue can take up to 10 min to dry depending on where you live! But it's a very affordable option!
I usually use q-tips dipped in acetone but that brush looks like perfection.
I use this method for years and works perfectly! 😊
