The way you talk is so comforting. There’s something about your demeanor. I don’t know how to explain it other than I don’t feel like you’re being condescending. You’re genuinely teaching in a kind and gentle way that makes me feel like I could ask you for help and be completely comfortable and safe…and not just for nails! I just want to hug you!
Shes a really good teacher, I have ADHD and trust me I always clock out but she kept my attention. Glad I could learn from her! I will be doing nails on myself but hopefully it can finally look good with what ive learnt here haha.
I'm not a nail technician but I can see the flaws pointed out. Now I can be a better consumer when looking for a salon or doing my own polish at home! Thank you!
I’ve been attempting acrylics / gel polish at home for months now and literally 99% of the “don’t” things you covered in this video I have been doing and could never understand why my polish would run, my thumbs always peeled first (and way before any of the other nails) I could go on and on…!! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video; you explained things so well.
I’m venturing into gel as a complete gel polish virgin, this was so useful. Simple things that could go unnoticed but will make a difference. It really shows what a different animal gel is to regular polish.
I love your videos, I’m training at the moment, but I’ve learned more from watching your videos than I have on my course. The pricing, acrylic application, gel, easy designs, picking up beads, form placement. Thank you for all of your videos, and they’re all free.
It's so crazy. It's almost like you guys knew that I was up til two am last night doing my nails. I was sitting down to do my other hand right as you uploaded this. I am a cosmetologist and I love your videos and how in depth they are with all the different angles and tips for success. I haven't really been taught all that much when it comes to enhancements before coming across your channel/brand. Thank you so much for helping me understand all these details. Education is power and speaks so highly about your passion that you guys are giving this information away for free. I have completed my manicure and it feels 100 times more secure and smooth since watching this.
Yesss! 🙌🏼😉😊 That makes so so happy! Thank you, education is power in your success! We love to share our knowledge and experience we have! Enjoy!! 💅🏻🤍✨🤩
I'm that client with the really deep sidewalls lol, one nail at a time for me. I'm glad Melissa said that about capping the free edge. It always destroys the shape and I personally haven't found it necessary with YN products.
I love ❤ your channel. As a 49 year old really wanting to master doing my own nails correctly, I love the way you’re teaching. Subscribed and addicted lol 😝 xxxx
Thank you so much for the clear, complete, no frills, facts only video! I especially appreciate your videos because I went to school for this way back in the day thinking they were honest with their "lifetime brushup classes" and they sold out when I went back.I was told that I would have to pay for the entire course again! Ladies, beware of false promises from cosmetology schools! Bless your heart! Thank you, thank you, thank you! ❤
The instructions with my kit literally said to buff the nail as prep - no wonder I was struggling so much with chipping and peeling!! Thank you so much for this video, perfect timing!
I'm just doing my nails at home so I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to talk through and demonstrate everything, including exact motions, for how not to flood cuticles, how not to get big drips on the nail tips, etc. I'd picked up on some of these myself but I just really appreciated your thorough explanations. That tip about the thumb is lifesaving!! Thank you so much for this video, super helpful
Thank you for all your videos. I have learned so much. I have one week left of school for nails 💅 Your videos have really helped step up my game in class. I will be leaving with a client list. 😍
I always love and appreciate all of you guy’s tips and tricks!! I’ve learned sooooooo much from your videos and I could never thank you enough! I find myself knowing things I never knew before just about polish alone and that’s so awesome to me, I love learning and you all definitely do it right when it comes to teaching and pretty much everything else lol!!!! Thank you Young Nails team🙏 ☺️ ♥️ !!
Love the video so much. It really helps🥰🥰 I got war flashbacks when you take out the fuzz 🤣🤣 I remember one time a client put her hand under light. When she took it out, there's a HUGE fuzz cured in 🥲🥲🥲 she touched her clothes and got it stuck right before putting it in light. I almost cried.
I do my own gel manicures & pedicures. I’ve mastered the gel on my toes but my hands it’s definitely trial and error. But this video has helped me tremendously I will be able to apply these tips next time I do my nails.
I have learnt so much. My gel polish nearly always chip. May I suggest that You ask your client to rest her thumb on the edge of the table with the remaining fingers "hanging" off the table. That should not cause any discomfort and the thumbnail will cure in an even position. Nevertheless. This video was very informative. I know now why my gel was bulging on the sides..
I'm so thankful for this video. This was my first time doing gel nails and I was kind of skeptical about my skills lol but you have given me so much more confidence to keep going
Thx Melissa for great gel tutorial. Much needed for us new nail techs. Pls make more videos for gel application. Greetings from subscriber in Cyprus. 😘
At first I thought how could there be this many minutes to know about gel nail polish... 🤔 Holy smokes I didn't realize everything's there was that I did NOT know... 😬😳Thanks so much these videos truly help people... This is awesome! I'm going to start doing my moms nails, to help save her money and so she and I can have some great bonding time together. As I've never done this, I really learned a lot and look forward to doing mine and my moms nails ❤
Another Great Video!! Been there done that!! It is hard to try to remove gel that runs into the sidewall but now I will check each nail before they go into the light. Thank you Melissa!!
I set up my led lights on a slightly higher level, I set it up on a sturdy small box on my working table. I am able to dry my 4 fingers easily, and then I apply my nail gel on my thumb and dry that easily by turning my thumb.
OMG!! You have access to my google account!! Lol I literally have been googling do’s and don’t with gel polish! Quick ? Can you use regular nail polish and then topcoat with gel Basecoat and top gel??
You can! You have to wait for the regular polish to dry 1000% before gel top coating. Or you might get a wrinkle within 10 minutes or sooner. I often do this because I have a ton of regular polish vs gels.
@@jaquelin1887 thanks so much that’s literally what I’m doing is organizing the tons of regular polish that I have. I bought the young nails caption base and top coat when it was on sale. My daughter bought me some really pretty colors of regular polish and I was hoping this would work on it! So let it dry all the way then apply gel. Thanks again! 😜😊😎
I've gotten in the habit of curing my thumbs separately. I'll pull my lamp to the edge of my desk and stick my thumb flat on the desk under the light with my fingers under the desk (if that makes sense). I just don't feel like it's curing well enough if I don't do it like that lol. Also, I paint a glitter polish on top of the brush handle of my topcoat that I only use over glitter. That way I never forget which one it is
When you watch her videos and you watch us prep the now before application of product, follow everyone of those steps. Swipe plays a huge part in prep. It removes any oil‘s or debris off the nail. Then you would go into Protien bond.
Now I know why does my nail doesnt last from my last manicure. Thank you for your video. I learn a lot from this and you make it easily to understand the problems and how not to do it.
This has been the best video I've seen for tips/tricks and troubleshooting. I've been doing gel on my own nails for years and everything always looks great - I never have peeling and rarely chipping, but always get the micro cracks or hairline fractures after about a week, which drive me crazy. I've seen many people say it's because the layers are not going on thin enough (but your layers don't seem thin at all). I use DND base/top coats and OPI gel polish. Any thoughts or suggestions? Is it the polish I'm using?
Are you asking about just gel polish or are you getting cracks in your sculpted hard gels? If it's just the gel polish, most of the time people get cracks from either using a hard gel top coat instead of a soft gel or if the natural nails are very flexible and the polish isn't durable enough to withstand the flexing. Unfortunately since we don't use the products you are using, we can't say for sure if these would be the challenge you're having but another thing to keep in mind is that there may be an issue with using one brand of base/top coat with another brand of color. There may be something not bonding well.

Out of curiosity, if a client has had the 4 fingers cured, why not have them slide their hand in top-side-down so the thumb is facing upright in their palm! Buckling the thumb seems more awkward than just flipping the hand over. Loving these videos, btw!
The reason you would not do this is because the gel is sticky after curing. If their nails hit the table or the inside of the lamp, it scuffs the sticky layer and there is a possibility of getting hair or fuzz on them. Second point, hand lamps are not large enough to have the hand in that position. The client would most likely scrape the polish off or most likely not get the thumb in all the way and have a bad cure. Hope that helps

Are you asking about just gel polish or are you getting cracks in your sculpted hard gels?
If it's just the gel polish, most of the time people get cracks from either using a hard gel top coat instead of a soft gel or if the natural nails are very flexible and the polish isn't durable enough to withstand the flexing. Unfortunately since we don't use the products you are using, we can't say for sure if these would be the challenge you're having but another thing to keep in mind is that there may be an issue with using one brand of base/top coat with another brand of color. Out of curiosity, if a client has had the 4 fingers cured, why not have them slide their hand in top-side-down so the thumb is facing upright in their palm! Buckling the thumb seems more awkward than just flipping the hand over.
Loving these videos, btw!
Honestly whatever works as long as they’re curing properly. Meaning the light is able to reflect on every direction of the fingernail.
I like the way she explained,.❤ excellent😊
Thank you Melissa, those tips and tricks help a lot ❤️

This was incredible and so helpful!! So interested in learning all of these things.

For my thumb, I sometimes flip my hand and fold my thumb in if I can so that the thumb is facing up. Just depends on your client's flexibility.
