This is a life I would love to give my kids, though it also overwhelms me because it's so very different from our life now. But I remember in the only other video of yours that I've watched that you said you started with one vegetable one year and added to it. That's more doable.
Yes!! We started very small. Our little garden plot was tiny when we first started and I had no experience gardening at all. But consistency and trying again after failing...you slowly learn and get better. Just find one vegetable/fruit that your family eats AND that you can grow successfully and start with that year after year.

I really appreciate your content and we’ve been working at incorporating a lot of what you share into our life also. It like a compact farm which is great and very realistic. We have just under 4 acres also and are working on the first parts of setting up some fences for the animals 😅 we have had chickens and ducks for a few years but have yet to get any butchered. Does your family own all of the equipment it takes to do home butchering? Do you feel the animals you have supply enough manure for your size of garden? We live in a low land area and I think our soil is pretty clayish so im thinking we will have to bring in a decent amount of compost/manure to really make a go of the garden bc it didn’t produce like I had hoped the last couple years. Thank you for the jam recipe :) For a momma of ten you like like your in very good physical shape. Do you have any special athletics/exercising time dedicated during your day? I’m a momma of seven so far and have nursed all of mine, but my core muscles have been lacking quite a bit and I think it’s bc I haven’t always known how to use them properly. I don’t feel like I sit around that much but I wondering if I need to dedicate specific time for building up muscle especially core strength and I’ve been trying to figure out how to fit that in my busy days bc my health is very important. I feel we eat decently healthy (always working on improving/ making time to cook well with a lot of little children(my oldest is 12 and my first 4 are boys who aren’t super interested in cooking 😅 but they’ve helped non the less) we do have a grain mill which I noticed you have but I don’t have it out all the time bc our kitchen is smallish, so it just feels like extra work to get it out, but it’s a good way to spend time to be healthy and I’m working on prioritizing that. I’ve always enjoyed sports or doing something active, but find I’ve been getting worn out quickly and want to build that up but It’s difficult with a lot of little children who need a lot of intentional one on one time that is pretty slow paced 😓 I wish I would have learned earlier so I would t feel so behind and discouraged about my health, it just feels like mountain to try to climb. Hi! Thank you for your comment and your kind words! Everything we do with our garden and animals started very small with us just trying something new one thing at a time. First we started with a small garden in the front yard of our old house (because the back yard was all shaded.) Every year this small garden grew until it covered half of the front yard! When we moved to our current property, we tried one batch of broiler hens. My husband made a chicken tractor. We hired a butcher. We liked having meat in the freezer so much that we did it again the next year. One time our butcher was backed up so my husband decided to borrow a plucker from a farmer friend and try it himself. He liked being able to do it himself and save the money so over time we bought a few things to make the job easier. We do put manure on our gardens, but we also buy mushroom mulch which works really well. Other than chasing kiddos and taking care of our large family, I'm not the best at a consistent exercise routine currently. (But raising 10 kids is actually quite a bit of exercise, haha!) What I'm a little better at is watching what I eat. It's been a process over the years of changing our lifestyle to be more healthy. I think being consistent with little changes over time can add up to healthier habits. I'm sorry to hear you are discouraged about.your health. What I try to do when I want to make a change in an area is pick one thing that is doable to try to make into a habit. (No sugar drinks, cutting out desserts, switching out healthier ingredients, eating more vegetables, etc.) After time once that feels like the new norm, I try something new. It depends on your butcher and feed costs. We pay extra to buy non GMO feed, so we probably break about even if you also figure in how much you would spend to buy meat that is farm raised, non GMO.
We live a very similar life. It has been such a blessing for our family.
