    This is the absolute best, simplest video on bleeding Sram brakes. I had to shorten my brake lines on my new bike. I’ve done Shimano a bunch of times and had no experience with bleeding Sram brakes with the their bleed ports. This process worked perfectly the first time. No checking lever distance or winding out adjusters. Just simple basic steps that work.
    Thank you for this. 👍

    If you want the brakes to have more bite from the get go. How do you dial the bite adjusters and the levers prior to the bleed?

    Nice clear and practical video many thanks. I have another issue after bleeding…- when I pull the brake lever I can slowly continue to squeeze the lever and it eventually touches the handle bar. I though it may have been internal piston in the lever but I have replaced that and bled as per your video but the lever can still be pulled to the handlebar. Have you ever seen this are there any other things it could be other than air since I was pretty sure I bled they correctly. Thanks again for the useful video. /Marcus

      Pretty common symptom of a busted brake line. They are made up of multiple layers and can leak internally between them.

    Good vid, thanks. Question, shouldn’t the master cylinder be level not hanging down when bleeding the brakes? I’ve always kept it level and SRAM has always recommended to have it level. I also think this will keep air out of the system as the fluid keeps the master cylinder full when level. SRAM also recommends the levers be between 75-80 mm from centre of bar to lever tip. I’ve never strayed away from this, do you find it not important?

    • @garage31
      @garage31  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In my experience Sram brakes rarely take in air, their seals are really good. So levelling the brake never made a big difference for me. As for the bite point adjustment, I view it as this: if your brake was new and you set up the bite adjustment the way you like, after servicing the brake it should return back to the same point in theory. You’ll get the best performance increase by doing a piston service at the caliper. Thanks Len

    Great video. Im having a weird issue with fluid coming out of the bladder port on the lever. Plus when I remove the lever syringe a large amount of fluid comes out of the lever. Could my syringe be sticking or something? Brand new rsc brakes and older bleed kit.

    You didn't seem to use the red hose clips at all. Is there a reason why or why not to use them?

    • @garage31
      @garage31  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sram want to to pull a vacuum on the syringe, and then bleed each part of the brake separately (lever,line,caliper). It doesn’t make a difference how you bleed it but this way is much quicker and ends up the same. I normally cut the red clips off because they get it the way. Thanks Len

    does it matter what 5.1 brake fluid I need? I have some from my dirt bikes, or does it need to be sram? I also notice you have the Avid version of the kit, way better priced. I think I may buy this kit.

    • @garage31
      @garage31  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope, as long as it’s 5.1 and not 5 the your fine. It doesn’t matter the brand. Weirdly Sram still makes Avid bleed kits, just watch out as the avid one’s might not come with the bleeding edge tool that you may need for Sram brakes in the last 4-5 years. Thanks Len

      You gotta pressurize the levers for the last step. Use the syringe, push the fluid in and give the lever a quick squeeze or 2. That should do the trick.

    you didn’t show and lever or bite point adjust prior to bleeding?
    how come you didn’t loose any fluid from the lever after the bleed? mine flows out like mad lol.

    • @garage31
      @garage31  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Darren. I’ve never found that adjusting the lever bite point made a difference. Sram brakes rarely suck in air, it’s more of a fluid replacement so doing the bite point adjustment whilst bleeding may end in the same result. Feel free to try and see if you can feel a difference. Check out the “how to make your sram brakes not suck” video to really get them dialled in.

    • @garage31
      @garage31  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      DOT fluid absorbs water up to 3% a year, so if you were to use your big bottle in 3 years time it may be 9% water. Water will lower the fluids boiling point decreasing its performance.
