I just had a tiguan rental for 3 months and 8k miles and avg’d 29.0 mpg which included many hours of 80mph + and lots of around town driving. Was a good vehicle. I may trade in my gti!
VW always feels much more premium compared to vehicles they compete with, but I just keep avoiding german cars because they seem to just get more expensive to maintain as they get older rather then cheaper like most other makes.
They improved the acceleration on tip in and the shifts between 1st & 2nd on the new one. I can confirm this as I test drove both. It’s not a DSG it’s a conventional torque converter type automatic
TFL has stated that CVTs are no good off road. You have also suggested that dual clutches don't do well either off road when the going gets tough. This car has an 8 speed automatic, which is not as crisp on road as the DSG but how does it perform on some of the steep Colorado trails that you regularly test crossovers?
It's because of the environmentalists pushing their junk science agenda. In Europe it's really bad and America is slowly getting that way too. But don't yield, hit them where it hurts. Don't buy these vehicles. Stick to good old American V8 power!
@@lapamful I mean we can talk about how Chevy V8s are dropping lifters and how there’s a lot of junk V8 American vehicles out there, I’ll take my 4 cylinder and getting 30 MPG instead of 300+ horsepower, both my cars make less than 290 to the crank but I’m not a racecar driver
@@evanspohn9924 yes, and in the '70s V8s gave you about 200hp, if you were lucky. Do you want to include those in your argument as well? Now you have me curious. See I just bought an Rline. Its not the premium with all wheel drive. Its front wheel drive with the turbo and it is faster than my 2019 premium all wheel drive. In fact it will roast the tires from a start. So easily its almost annoying. So I'm curious if nothing special is done to the Rline do all front wheel drive Tiguans run like my new Rline?
The R line is simply an appearance package. Nothing more. All have the same power. Our 4motion SE will chirp the front tires before it sends power to the rear.
@@Tyler-ts2ld See I have 2019 4motion as well and it does the same thing. I know the Rline is badging. So do the regular front wheel drives break the tires loose in the first 2 gears wet or dry? Because this does and it's irritating to drive. Traction control constantly fights with it.. We run it fuel economy mode just to make it drivable.
@@justinBeefeater the regular FWD absolutely will. Ours seemed super touchy with the throttle when we first bought it. It took some getting used to. The latest ECM update from VW seems to have smoothed it out.
@@Tyler-ts2ld It seems like everyone rags on them for being slow. Maybe they aren't WRXs but for getting around town its got plenty and looks just as good as higher end SUVs.
As an owner of two 2018 Tiguans, I have to say that it’s too slow. They need to add a larger engine as an option for me to consider another one, or recommend it. It has absolutely no merging/passing power. I’ve had to abort passing a car on a two lane mountain road because it just couldn’t do it. And I know the Tiguan is considered fairly class competitive, but for a German vehicle one would expect it to be a little bit ahead of the competition. Hopefully for 2022 VW adds the Atlas’s 235hp 2.0tsi engine as an option. (Similar to how Mazda did to CX5 with CX9 engine)..
I'd rather have the Mitsubishi Outlander sport GT 2.4L due to the price and warranty. And you get more for your money for around 30Gs or less. Plus the Mitsubishi looks better IMO.
@@haroldbeauchamp3770 Um you might want to look at their website and confirm what you are saying. Because you can build an Outlander Sport GT with the 2.4 L naturally aspirated 4cyl. The GT 2.4L AWC is the top trim model in the US for the Outlander Sport. But it would be nice to get with a 6 cyl.
I bought a 2019 Tiguan SE 4motion for $30k out the door, and it’s way nicer than a similarly priced Outlander. To get the same features on a Subaru Outback, you’re looking at almost $40k.
Yeah VW messed up with these R Line cash grab trim packages. I'm sure most people won't care that there's no extra oomph but most of the previous VW fanbase does. That combined with the interior cost cutting has me looking elsewhere.
VW sells every R Line they make. It's the middle of August and if you check your local dealer's inventory, you won't find many R Lines, if any. They must be doing something right.
