Got my 2021 Tiguan SE R-Line Black for $24k last December (perks of knowing someone who owns a dealership). Has been incredibly dependable and a joy to drive.
I think the exterior noise is mainly due to lack of sound deadening materials (cost cutting) and the fact that they are on 20 inch rims with a small sidewall. Funny enough the '22+ R Line Black editions went back down to 19" rims, I'm wondering if it's because people complained about ride quality or noise. We have the same car in Houston and the road noise is less than my Passat, I think the Hankooks are actually pretty soft and help to dampen the road noise. Great review - this is such a good car and we've had no real issues with it. Very happy with our purchase!
I would agree 100%. My wife and I just got a Volvo XC90. The wheels look amazing but I think they hinder the ride quality. Wheels are always a compromise, looks v comfort. It will be interesting to see how we like it with 18” wheels and snow tires this winter. Thanks for watching! 😎
I would agree. I did not have the SEL Premium R-Line, so I did not research that. BUT, with that being, said I feel like mid-trim level cars should be coming with LED headlights. Lighting is pretty cheap and it would have only added to the exterior of this vehicle.
@@Carsideration I always say if an entry level Toyota Corolla has LED headlights then EVERY CAR should come standard with them, it’s funny I see these cars coming down the road and the mixture of the LED DRL and the Halogen headlight looks awful! Hyundai also does this on some of their vehicles. The consumer deserves better, how much is it really saving them! Thanks for your reply, high quality review
@@sneakersonfeet9045 Thanks for watching! But you are exactly right! haha Lighting can't be that expensive I would imagine and I would say most consumers would pay the extra $400+ that they would tack on to the price.
@@Carsideration I'm in the market of looking a small crossover. It must have all wheel drives. My top choice right now is the Subaru forester sport; however, I still like the look on the Tiguan.
@@OverCookedRice The Forester is a great vehicle! I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I like the Forester's design, but I think the Tiguan is a touch more sophisticated as far as exterior design goes.
Yeah I got the Tiguan and hear no exterior noise but maybe Texas roads are better. I don’t hear nothing it’s so smooth. Also the sell turnover on a Subaru is terrible. My parents Subaru when ready to trade in was so disappointed that they couldn’t get anything but a few thousand and it had low mileage and was only 4 years old. VW has a way better resale value. So way better investment. The features are just off and missing so many great things about it in this video. I would not go off this video at all. My 2021 looks, sounds and has way better things going on then this example he is trying to show. Like he got some used baseline and put on cone wheels and called it A Tiguan R line. 🤦♀️
I personally like the Tiguan more when it comes to exterior design. That is one of my biggest factors on vehicles. I personally don't find the CRV and other Honda models as pleasing to look at. Interior and engine-wise you could argue either way and I liked the infotainment system on the VWs more as well.
Needs more power OR better fuel economy. To have 185hp AND only get 27mpg is ridiculous. Can get a CRV or RAV that are both quicker and get better fuel economy. And don’t get me started on the hybrids of those 2. I agree this looks WAY better. Give me this with a 7.5 0-60 and 27-33mpg and I’m in. Otherwise I gotta go Asian for my next suv. I love my Jetta GLI and is the logical step up. I think they do need an optional engine upgrade.
I agree 100%. Looks wise it wins, but performance wise it just isn't all there. The new CRVs and RAV4s are faster but I can't like the exterior design no matter how hard I try haha
Yup. I agree with that 100%. If this had 220+ hp it would be a game-changer, as in, just that much better. With 184 it just feels a touch underpowered.
@@Carsideration I know this might not be appropriate but apparently you can tune these (APR, Unitronic) to about that number... seems to wake the car up!
@@splatbubble oh you are 100% correct! APR does some amazing work! You should look up the VW Atlas Cross Sport GT Concept. It’s pretty cool. Now if only they did a Tiguan version of that! Haha
@@Carsideration hahahah full disclosure, that concept car is the reason why I started looking at Tiguans a few days ago to begin with! I am a wagon purist myself, but then I saw the GT (the vegan interior did it for me) and then I went down the rabbit hole of the Atlas, and stumbled upon this thing! If you had asked me 4 days ago I would have been like, "Tig...what?" :) Thanks for the vid. :)
@@splatbubble I wish they would really come out with that concept. I know they wouldn’t sell a ton but there are people like us that would buy it all day! Especially if it has the power and performance. Thanks for watching and commenting dude! 🤙
Amazing how trim levels differ in different countries. in the UK even the base trim which called "tiguan" has LED lights all round, and the top spec has matrix LED lights as standard. Also no complicated names. "tiguan, life, Elegance" then r line which is the sportier top spec. no black edition weirdness.
The lack of power is noticeable for sure, that is the only thing I didn't like about it and AWD is always a good thing. Even if you are in a warmer climate in my mind.
of course! You just have to find someone willing to sell theirs or contact your dealer. There also could be an aftermarket company that makes a replica wheel.
I wish the owner had put winter tires on it haha Had a scary moment taking it back to his house and winter tires are second to none when snow/ice is on the road. When the weather gets nicer then switch back to the all seasons.
@@andyg5050 Ohh haha...yeah, I may have phrased it wrong lol Some vehicles come with a snow tire/wheel option from the factory but it is pretty rare now a days. Thank you for watching!! :)
hahhaha. Well....as I said in the video I like how they kept it simply. Considering this is tailored towards families that don't care about engine options I think it was a good move. Would I personally like a better engine option? Yes, of course. Give us petrol heads a 500hp lol
That is a tough call. I don't think you could go wrong with either one. The Tiguan's overall design looks better IMO. But The Rav4 has a better rating overall. I would probably lean towards the Rav4.

I bought a 2020 R-line Black with the black exterior. Fantastic, good looking vehicle and it is extremely rare in the black exterior paint.
Now that you mention it I have never seen one in black on the streets.
Love my '22 SE R Line Black! Traded in my 2015 Q5 which I loved but it was exhibiting the dreaded oil consumption issue.
I might be the only crazy one but I would 100% take this over a Q3/Q5 base. I spent a few hundred miles in a 16 Q3 base and I did not like it haha
