I've watched this several times over the years and it never ceases to amaze me how truly magnificent this driver's racecraft, awareness and genuine talent was. She turned her racing job into an artform.

Her braking and car positioning skills enable her to overtake everybody. The other drivers don't seem to be in the same level as her. And to think, she was already 45 yrs old at the time of this video.

I'm glad to see a recent comment here because I've found nothing about Sabine for a year. I am a big fan of her and have looked, but found nothing. So does anyone know why she has become obscure for the past year?
I never really cared to watch racing, I like cars and engineering, but couldn't sit through a filmed race so I never cared to find out about tracks and drivers until recently (but I've always loved being behind the wheel in even arcade race games). But I just came across a video on the Nurburgring history with clips of Sabine. Immediately felt compelled to look her up. I don't know why, she just has this magnetic "I will obliterate this road and everyone on it as hard as I can, and I can actually do it" energy that made me want to actually watch her races.

One thing I don't know is whether she ever drove LMP1. She should have. She had more guts than the other racers on this track. On the start alone, she passed all the slower cars without putting a foot wrong and wreck and stuck her nose from way back. That's concentration. Would have made a great candidate for the Audi R8.
She just overtook 39* cars in just under 7 minutes... At the Nurburgring. Hot damn! *40, if you count the chap who overtook her for a short while before she regained that position.
Watching this, I’m amazed she was so far down the grid at the start! What an incredible performance in the wet. She is badly missed, an incredible driver. 🏁
That was such a therapeutic experience watching that ! I only saw Sabine a couple of times on TV driving shows but what a driver and she came across as a lovely personality. RIP Sabine.

This is the complete package. Watch it over and over again to really appreciate the skill level that Sabine had - immaculate positioning to make all those fast, wholesale passes combined with flawless braking and drive traction in greasy conditions. Never dropped her pace for a second and then when grip became marginal, virtually no gear changes between Hohe Acht and Pflanzgarten (6:42-7:35) negotiating this super tricky part of the circuit at low RPMs while still maintaining position. However many clean passes she makes in about 10 kms in the wet is anyone's guess - I hope someone counted them?? Still can't believe she's gone. RIP Queen of the Nurburgring!!!

With each passing day, Sabine is missed more and more. Sabine had more racing intelligence, better instincts and bigger balls than any of her racing siblings, all of which were men. Sabine the Legend. Forever in our hearts. The ‘Ring is her home. God Bless Sabine Schmitz.

The world is a lesser place without her in it. She made racing richer in spirit with her character a part of it. Never got to meet her, so sorry for her family and friends. Rest in peace young lady, you are missed.
Watching this brought tears to my eyes. I was saying to my self, this is some real Granturismo stuff right here and I noticed the banner on the wind screen "Granturismo the real driving simulator". The grip in the wet is unbelievable. She demolished the track. What a woman. Miss her.
This is like one of those racing games where you start at the back of the field and you have to try and overtake everyone before the end. Sublime skills on show here, especially her skill in taking cars under braking.
I never knew this woman existed. She overtook all these cars with ease, she easily outclassed everyone else. I've seen how the car snapped a few times, and she reacted quicker than I realized what's going on. I was completely mesmerized. It's a shame she passed away, I would've loved to see her race.
What a wonderful driver. It's like everyone else is doing their first ever lap of the Ring. They look so tentative and nervous in comparison even though they are going balls out. RIP you amazing lady and keep doing crazy laps in heaven. ❤
