15 years ago I met Wayne and simply said Hi I love your TV show at Hartford Hospital when I was getting leukemia Treatment. He said Wow thank you I hope you feel better I didn't feel very well at all and didn't have the energy to talk more.. But meeting him absolutely made my week at the hospital.
Fight like hell every day. It was after they gutted me like a fish from my esophagus cancer, and only gave me about three years to live estimate that I decided to live and have fun with the things that I love and that meant doing more car things. 15 years later, I’m still doing them. I just attended the Goodwood members meeting over in England. I am serious when I say fight like hell and live your best life. Someday maybe will bump into each other at a car vent.
I have been waiting for this incredible man to join the podcast for years. Wayne is a icon of American automotive culture and programming. Today rules!
Wayne might be the only person I can think of that I can confidently assume that not a single person would have a negative thing to say about him! Legend 🤟
Absolutely killed it! Wayne was one that got me into cars growing up as a teenager. I would always throw on the show Saturday mornings and wish it kept playing. 30 now and have moved up to a ND MX-5 and OG F87 M2. All I can say for those around my age...car culture is NOT dying. Maybe one day I'll have that refined pallet though! Please look at having him on again even from a distance. I could talk to him for hours and he has so much to share with the car world.
Wayne is the reason I like classic cars. Always was interested in the latest and greatest, but his show is what made me start to look to the past for great cars.
Wayne and the guys nailed it on the rally comment. I love driving my vehicle way more than car shows. It’s about the experience and memories behind the wheel.
I met Wayne at Amelia Island for the first time in 2013 about when his show was just getting started. I'm in the restoration parts business and we often set up a booth there. I was thrilled to see him there and I was even in an episode briefly. After that dealt with his a few times for Alfa and Lancia parts. The last time I talked to him a few years ago I was telling him I was in the market for an Alfa Romeo Alfetta (the 70s/80s model) and he though I was talking about the 1930s Grand Prix Alfetta. He probably though I went crazy lol. Super nice guy!
50:00 on the 3d printing discussion - I'd add that it works wonders for any kind of clips or interior trims (originally plastic stuff), for making custom bushing (you 3d print a mold) or jigs for mounting stuff
I bought a car from Wayne - without inspecting the car - and when I got it it had a significant issue. I called Wayne and he had me send it to a shop in my town. The repair bill was $17k and Wayne covered it with no issue. When I got it the 2nd time it still wasn’t right. Wayne took it back with no question or objection. Paid me a full refund. A first rate guy.
Wayne is such an authentic, knowledgable, passionate, genuine guy! He's also so down to earth and can see why he and Leno are friends. He's such an interesting man! Also, I love how he's a family man and cars for grandkids. Great job, ST. Obviously, I could tell Matt and Tyler excited to have him on the show. Maybe nerves, but sometimes Matt, please let your guest speak as a few times. Wayne was trying to tell a story, and you cut him off. Maybe it was nerves, or you got excited. Fortunately, Wayne kept to his story, so it worked out well.
Its lovely to see Wayne! I learned so much about 1960s Ferraris from watching Chasing Classic Cars. It would be good if Wayne could do another London to Brighton Veteran Run here in Blighty!
Great show and now a subscriber. Question ...Wayne kept referring to his show, but where is it being shown? Is Chasing Classic Cars still doing new shows?
I was across the water in Narragansett that weekend, but I didn't want to spend the money to cross the bridge, I really regret not going! I did rip around Point Judith in my 86, though, and man, those are some high quality bends, so I did have my fun anyway.
My Grandpa went to the Smithsonian and checked out their auto section. "that's not right", Thats wrong".Thanks for that Grandpa, now I know all that crap in my head forever more.
I want an Apperson Jackrabbit. Hardly ever see them transact. I fell for the car because my favorite coffee shop was originally built as an Apperson dealer in 1918. Still has a freight elevator in it that took the cars to the second floor.
You can get any amount of $2 bills from any bank. If they don’t have enough, they can order them. I used to take all they had when I cashed my paycheck. Nothing like having a roll of $2’s in your pocket.
At a friend of mine's bachelor party we did "Two-Dollar Baller" and everyone brought like $300 in $2 bills to the strip club. There were like 15 of us all throwing around 2's like crazy. The girls were so confused lol.
I used to drive my boss crazy by going to the bank next door and converting some of the dollar bills in to $2 so that I could tell the computer that we had some when I went to balance the drawers at the end of the day.
I'm old enough when two dollar bills were commonly used. My first job was at a Mobil station. Whenever I got them I traded ones for them and still have them.
They should have asked him straight up ok Wayne why didn’t you pay Roger or at least cover his medical bills. Really puts negative side to Wayne in clear sight.
I’ve never seen his show or any other cable TV car show as I’ve never had cable or dish TV. But, I do see him running around a lot of the car shows like Amelia Island and Pebble Beach. As a matter of fact after Pebble Beach, he and I stay the night or stay the night more than once in the same San Jose hotel before getting up and taking flights the next morning. He and I are always the first two waiting on the shuttle bus from that hotel to the airport. so I spoken with him while standing there waiting on the bus, and while we’re headed to the airport, which is only like three minutes. He is always on the move at the car shows as well. Never stops walking. One of these days, I’ll have to catch his show. And this weekend… Tomorrow is one lap of America,. Many years ago, my son and I bumped into Matt when him and Mike were driving the BMW X5M. That was the time when the car show was on with Adam Carolla. I told my young son I said hey look there’s Matt Farah from the TV show. So we went and said hi and Matt said hey why don’t you hang out around me until we have to leave? Very nice guy. Also, coincidentally another guy walked up and started talking to us and he and I looked at each other as if to determine how we knew each other. Anyway, it was a person that goes by the name of John Hammer. John was my passenger seat driver Ride along a month or so before at Amelia Island when I took out the Dodge Viper, white manual. bumped into John many times since then as well. And Donald Osborne. Last year at the Goodwood members meeting, they have a VIP entrance. I was there waiting on my Rolls-Royce to take me back to the Goodwood estate where I parked my crappy little rental car, happily mind you. And Donald Osborne walked up behind me to get in line for the next VIP car to pick someone up. I still kick myself. I didn’t get a selfie with him. And again since I don’t have cable TV or whatever you call it nowadays, I’ve only seen him on the Jay Leno videos. So I had no idea that he was into so many higher level things with Audrain. Anyway we briefly talked before I hopped in the car back to Goodwood estate. Again very nice gentleman. Most car guys are. He mentions Ed Wellburn. Ed has been at many car shows. Him and his wife were eating at the table next to me and my buddies one time at Amelia and I had to lean over and tell him how much I appreciated his contributions while being the design chief of General Motors. Very nice guy as well. Lots of good car guy experiences over the years.
It was refreshing to hear Matt have a conversation with someone without cursing every other word. Wayne must raise everyone around him to a higher level of class.
I have to lol. When my young son and I bumped into him at one lap of America, at tire rack headquarters in South Bend, Indiana, I was prepared for such a thing. Sure enough a couple of sentences in Matt drops the old F bomb. We just kept going didn’t miss a beat. He was, very kind to my son and myself that day. He wanted us to hang out with him until him and Mike Musto had to leave for the next leg.
I was in Amelia island driving my Nissan Figaro and freaked out when I saw thee Wayne Carini riding shotgun in a Bugatti. So cool to hear him talk about it.
As soon as he mentioned he has an autistic daughter and everything hes done for her i instantly had love for dude , ill use a similar move for my autistic son
i recently bought a 77 vw Beetle and i can confirm going to the gas station takes a lil bit longer than my other cars , someone always comes up and has look and a story it been great
About buffing a car instead of repainting it, I've to disagree. Buffing a car might look good for a period of days. Nowadays there is technology available that can match colors, even the ones faded. So just respray the exterior or some body sections could be an option.
I heard that when Edison came out with the lightbulb it became a huge disruption to the kerosene light business that the Vanderbilt’s and standard oil dominated, basically all their wealth came from this. So to keep that sector and business alive they used their control of politics and other businesses to create automobiles that ran on kerosene or other oil based fuels. Thus the electric vehicle died and the rise of the combustion motor happens. I will say I have not done any research lol 😂 hopefully I described that clearly.
