I had no idea how much history Zak Brown had in racing! This is exactly why I like you interviewing people like him. I'm suprised that he even had the time to do it, but thanks for the interview
I can see why that would be a hard investment for him. Yes, McLaren is very competitive in Formula 1, but they still have work to do in IndyCar. Are they competitive, yes. Are they championship contenders, at the moment no. So they need to build on that I think. Plus, it’s not about just buying charters. It’s buying or building a shop for that NASCAR effort. It’s hiring people for that effort. That’s a lot to invest, and also it’s going to take time to find the right people for it. Like in any form of racing, most of the highly sought people are already hired. Plus, you don’t want to spread yourself too thin. When McLaren started the down spiral after 2012. You could point at the road car program as a reason. Zak isn’t about to go down that road again with McLaren.
As a Red Bull fan, Zak Brown is gigantic tool. As an American, I'm embarrassed that, as a massive tool, he represents my country in F1. I'll hand it to him for rebuilding McLaren, without Newey, but every single time Zak opens his mouth, I'm embarrassed.
@@nevelsjohnI'm not happy with him for jerking Palou around but I understand he's on a driver hoarding binge to try and stack his deck but just sitting down yakking- I don't think he's a tool. Or not a total tool.😅
Zak Brown is amazing, loved this interview! Learned so much about his career, got a great scoop on how he wants the F1 team to play for the remainder of the season, and was overall inspired to continue fighting to build my own career in the wild industry that is racing!
The way Dale’s voice speeds up when he’s talking about indycar personalities… the PASSION. Indycar is smothering their stars and the product is so ripe for improved management. A fantastic discussion with one of the best and smartest brains in Motorsports.
What a great listen. I have always been a diehard NASCAR fan, but casual F1 fan. I think part of that is never having a driver or team that I could really connect with and become a major fan for the way Hendrick Motorsports and Jeff Gordon did when I was a kid. The combination of Zak Brown and his american roots, and Lando Norris has made me a massive McLaren fan the last few years.
This was a fantastic episode. I’ve always gotten the impression that Zak is one of the best conversationalists in motorsports and genuinely loves racing. Great work putting this one together Jr. Absolute home run.
Zak Brown has to be the most relatable, likable boss in all of motorsports. He's always smiling, and always seems to have a positive comment when asked. I'd say everyone at the MTC would run through a wall for him.
Gigantic hats off to Zak Brown, who has overseen one of the greatest comebacks in F1 history. I've been a McLaren fan since I was a kid and it's great to finally see them back on the right track.
I love all the old NASCAR guys and their stories. I’ve loved Indy care racing since the year before Mario won in 1969. I almost skipped this episode because I had no idea who Zack was. WOW!! Was I wrong. In my opinion this was your best interview yet, Jr. Your interest and enthusiasm was palpable. I enjoy your channel! Keep em coming.
Good day from Norfolk UK. A great interview and so much information which for many will be enlightening. Keep up the good work Jr, great work. regards, RWF.
To hear Dale talk about his dad’s Nova at the end. I think I speak for all the fans when I say thanks, Dale Jr, for being so open and authentic with all of us. We love it all. It’s so generous to share all he does. It’s so unique, and makes us all better for knowing what he shares with us.
Zak is a good dude. Ruthless competitor. Made an amazing decision swooping up OP and not only getting Lando but able to keep him around when the team was flopping and everyone was wanting Lando
This is one of the greatest interviews i have ever had the pleasure to watch. I wish it had kept going for a couple more hours. Zak is amazing and comes off as a fun guy. He also has an incredible car collection that includes some historic F1 cars. Even as a Ferrari fan it is impossible not to root for Zak, Lando and Oscar to do well and take the title. Well done as always. Thanks.
JR. Once again A+ show. I love what you and your team are doing. YOU'RE a true stewart of Nascar. There are a few names in Nascar such as yours, will stand the test of time.
The best way to improve the INDYCAR broadcasts… find a way to run it commercial free like F1 OR at least drastically minimize the ad time. Watching the 500 this year I was absolutely shocked at how little they showed the racing vs ads.
Agree about the ads but the alternative is, like F1 TV, a subscription. When I ask myself would I prefer ad-free and, say, $75 for a season or free with adverts, it's a toss up.
That was absolutely a fantastic watch. One of the best episodes I've seen. Keep up the good work, Junebug. Dirty Mo media bring some of the best content to the Internet thank you!
We used to have a thing called “trading paint,” I believe. An F1 driver and a NASCAR driver would swap rides and run qualifying laps. I’d really love to see that come back annually. This is great opportunity for Jr Motorsports and Mclaren to gang up and make this a permanent thing! It could attract lots of additional sponsorship and a lot more drivers to cross over into the other series!!!
Very good interview all around! Dale's questions were very articulated and stated in a manor an experienced interviewer. Dale brought out the most in the career and interests of Zac Brown. Very interesting content!!!!
Being a lifelong McLaren fan, I can’t think of a better man to lead the team, such a gentleman with a great back story and incredible knowledge. We’re spoilt for racing history in the UK but love hearing about American racing history, thanks guys!
Zak Brown is a very interesting dude! I love how he took this team to the next level! And I love how passion got him and McLaren to the top! Thanks DJ! Great listen!
I have to say this interview was a lot more interesting than I thought it would be. I've always been in and out with F1 and I've never really had a favorite driver or team in F1 but I think I may have to root for McLaren now!
And damn, his off the cuff list of what Indycar could learn from other series to be better.. SPOT ON. he’s the real deal. @indycar are you listening?!! He’s so right about every point he made.
Zak would be fun to work for, he actually cares about EVERY aspect and takes it into perspective. Not many leaders do that but thats why he rose to success like he did. He knows what hes doing and i hope he goes to nascar because he can dominate, hes got the tools, drivers and intelligence
That was a very good interview. My perception of Zak Brown was a stuffed shirt. How wrong I was. His passion for racing came through big time in the interview. No college education and he's running one of the biggest race car organizations in the world. Just goes to show how far passion will get you. I am now a mango fan.
I agree. I assumed he was a grifter when I first saw him in his new role at McLaren. But he’s anything but. He will lead F1 one day, and now that I know he was tapped to be number 2 already, I’m even more sure of it. That’s probably a good thing.
