I admit that I got a little choked up watching this again. It reminded me of when I was seven years old and watched this movie whenever it came on HBO. I'm glad I was an 80's kid.
Same here. I grew up with it on a tape that my parents had recorded off an NBC special presentation. Great movie and the soundtrack was incredible. When the credits ended it went right to that old Doublemint gum commercial with the twins and the Double Freshness jingle going on. Being a child of the 80s definitely was great.

This ending was such whiplash the first time I watched this movie, I remember bawling my eyes out as a 4yo after No5's death takeout, seeing the soldiers gather his parts was too much for me, but this ending was like a soothing balm.
Another amazing song that same year that never got released is The Heart is So Willing by Stephen Bishop which was the theme song to the movie The Money Pit. So two amazing songs that shoulda been released separately from those movies that came out the same year

They should have made a third movie with Austin Pendleton returning as Dr. Howard Marner actively on Number 5s side as one, a redemption arc as even he regretted what Nova did and tried to do to him in the end. Would fill out Number 5s arc too with the three humans that had the most to do with how he developed who he was and is, Stephanie and Newton, Ben, Dr. Marner oversaw his creation and had as much hand as Newton and Ben did.
THE movie that got me into robotics! While just a hobby for me atm, If it weren’t for Johnny 5, (and later, WALL-E) I wouldn’t have fallen in love with robots and practical effects and eventually, animation! (Also, Herbie the Love Bug reinforced my desire for practical effects too!)
I used to love this film and its sequel. the number of johnny 5's I made out of lego as a kid. though pretty much all of them were made out of yellow because I had the most of that colour and none of them had actual tank treads cos I only had wheels.
I don't know what the story is but I requested it on iTunes around 2010 or 2011 along with other songs I couldn't find. After forgetting about it for a few months I checked again and found it had been added. It's on my ipod. If you're saying it's not there on iTunes I'm not really sure why. I'm not sure about their policy on whether certain songs are removed for whatever reason once added.
There's a couple of things I wanna do before I die. Rent a Ferrari California in Chicago. Cross the Golden Gate on a Giorgio Morroder/Phil Oakey song. Drive into Santa-Cruz on a The Doors song. Drive into Astoria on a Ciny Lauper song and out of Astoria on this song. I will also want to visit Ladder 9 on Ray Parker Jr and finally get pulled over going 88 miles an hour listening to Huey Lewis and the News. :)

Some scenes at 1:13-1:49-2:06 looks like deleted scenes that never made it into the film. I wish they had still included those three scenes instead of leaving them out. I wonder why they didn't just simply do the end credits with the screen fading and the credits slowly moving up at 0:21.
They were used in the sequel. You see Johnny-5 holding onto a conveyor belt at a junk yard. That happens in the final scene of the #2. He follows the diamond thief to the junkyard and gets falls on him. Then there''s the footage of the remote control airplane. Johnny will take over the control of the remote plane and use it to attack one of the diamond thieves.

The scenes were filmed according to the script, but were cut for time constraints. 1:13 is during the demonstration, after the bit with blowing up vehicles, numbers 4 and 5 build a tiny remote control model airplane to showcase the robots finess, fly it using a remote, then steal control it using their radio antennas, and finally shoot it down to demonstrate their accuracy. Scenes 1:49 and 2:06 happened during the skip after Johnny stole the Nova van, it runs out of gas and he tries to get directions from the little robot. Later, he ends up in a junk yard where number 4 tries to recapture Johnny which is why he's not with 1-3 later in the actual movie.

I watched this movie only a hundred times. Been a big Johnny five fan since I was in second grade back in 2003. I am his biggest fan.
Never understood the need for videos like this that have lyrics on the screen that are 100% clear because the vocalist(s) intended it be that way.

I never got to see the full length credits on British TV until it was shown on Channel 4, it was always previously shown on the BBC and they were cut.
