One of my first Knife reviews was of this Knife. It’s Not a bad knife at all for the price. The brass tarnishes green pretty fast. It definitely needs to be sharpened and the sheath kinda blows but it does work. I really like the knife.

It's easy to sharpen with an axe puck sharpener . I got a Rothco machete canvas sheath that the leather sheath slips into just snug. I cut it shorter an re-sewed the bottom and added a Condor shoulder strap. Now I can molle it, belt carry or over the shoulder, looks real nice too, plus two pockets to carry a stone etc. I heard a South American reviewer saying they used them down there

Nice in dept video. After much thought I bought one Sept. 2019. Lo and behold it came quite sharp. After some messaging with my Lansky sharpener it became very sharp. So I chopped on a 4" dia. palm tree and down it came. Inspection showed zero blade damage. I'm happy with this monster.

I actually want to keep the more expensive d bad as a backup and try to baby it more then this one, but maybe I might do it the other way around. Just need to learn how to sharpen knives! I bought it a truck down two inches of brush and two and a half inch piece of a tree trunk and the blade in the center closer to the point bent it got a wave in it I got it on a flat piece of surface with a vise and I straighten it out every sharpened it and it's in good shape right now but every video I seen on this knife and I had a seat for myself cuz I'm not going to complain it wasn't expensive but started rattling the handle started rattling so I took him apart and re-gluten with a special epoxy glue and the rattles gone that's the only downfall but the size of the knife is nice and I think this deal is pretty decent it's sharpens easy it'll get dull fast but it sharpens up but no problem and thank you for sharing your video you're the man 👍👍👍👍👍

@DBAD - So, this is follow up comment on an earlier comment about the SZCO Sable Bowie, which I still think is from the same handmade company that makes the Timber Rattler Western Outlaw Bowie. I compared the 2 knives after receiving them. They look identical. The SZCO Sable Bowie has a thicker spine and tang, and is 1_oz heavier at exactly 2_lb (just the knife). The handle is also a little thicker. The SZCO Sable Bowie has zero markings on the steel, while the Timber Rattler says Timber Rattler Stainless Steel TR65. Fit and finish on both knives we're about equal, and what you'd expect from a semi handmade knife from Pakistan. Neither knife came sharp. The bevels were uneven on both. Both sheaths are equally thin and worthless. They appear to be made of the exact same leather thickness. The steel blades on both knives have very minor rust marks, meaning neither are actually low carbon, high chromium stainless steel. I suspect if you were to compare 6 Timber Rattlers, you'd see similar differences between them. Even though my scale says it's only 1_oz heavier, the SZCO Sable Bowie feels a lot heavier, perhaps due to the slightly thicker handle and tang. If I weighed them in grams, perhaps the weight difference is more. My scale rounds to the nearest oz. I ordered these knives off Amazon at the same time I ordered the Cold Steel 1917 Frontier Bowie. I'm going to keep the CS Frontier Bowie (which is awesome), and return both of the Pakistan Bowies. They just feel too heavy in the hand to do anything but baton wood, and the sheaths are unusable. The CS 1917 Frontier Bowie is just as thick, the blade is longer, and it weighs 1_lb 8_oz. It's much more nimble in the hand. I have a Rough Ryder Black Mule Bowie (SMKW brand). That Bowie came shaving sharp, it's lighter and more nimble, it has a better handle, and it actually has a sheath that's sturdy, with a thin plastic insert. The retention strap can also be moved to the spine side of the knife, and the blade style is Western 49 with a choil. If I had to fight with a knife, I'd definitely choose it over the Timber Rattler Western Outlaw. It's light enough that you can carry it while hiking and camping, along with a smaller knife for camp tasks. That's just my impression and opinion. I'm a very strong guy with XXL hands. I used to be a power lifter, and my ideal weight is about 210_lb (I'm a bit fatter now). If the Timber Rattler and identical SZCO Sable Bowies both feel unwieldy to me, I can't imagine a guy of regular size and strength using one well.

The last Western W49 Bowie I had broke and when I owned "The Boot Knife" Knife shop back in the 70's the Western knives in general were my most returned knives so as the Cold Steel Wild West Bowie is basically the Western W49, I believe I'll pass. I have one of these Timber Rattlers based on your recommendation, never been disappointed in it, but now I feel the need to see how good of an edge I can get on it... @DBAD - Since you know a lot about the knife industry, an interesting video would be about how all these inexpensive Bowie knives are either manufactured or distributed by SZCO Supplies. For example, SZCO calls this knife the "Sable Bowie" (SKU: 203349). SZCO also makes an identical knife to the Ridge Runner Bowie. Even the sheaths are identical. The only difference on the Timber Rattler Western Outlaw, is that the sheath says the name of the knife on it. SZCO also manufactures or distributes the Schrade Old Timer Bowie. Like I said, I'm 98% positive SZCO Supplies either manufactures or distributes all these inexpensive large fixed blades. It would be interesting to know if SZCO actually manufactures the knives, or they just buy them from wholesale manufacturers, and distribute them. I'd be interested to know if the company that makes the Timber Rattlers, just buys the same knife from the same factory as SZCO. They're very clearly identical knives.

I've had one of these for a few years now. For the price it is quite good...for the price. Mine did come razor sharp and it takes a sharp edge very easily. Unfortunately, it does not hold that edge well. The angled guard allows you to choke up on it more easily.
Like most big Bowies, it's more of a fun toy to keep in your truck than a practical tool. When I need to clear brush I use a machete, for home defense a pistol, for EDC just about anything that's smaller, lighter and less conspicuous and I do sometimes edc a Bowie.

That was a good review! Man TBR is a awesome blade for the price! Looks great! feels great! Nice and sturdy too! I notice the stitching on your sheath by the loop where you show us it wobbles the stitch was in a square pattern back then cause it since been fixed because mine has the square stitch but also features a diagonal cross stich on one side so it's on there real good. Must of been one of the top complaints. I am thinking a custom sheath where it can sit horizontally at the small of my back instead of on my hip. The blade also came moderately sharp not good enough for my taste so like most everyone here I will be getting it sharpened. I want it to be dangerously sharp ready to do damage. Oh like chopping hands off sharp! I am very sure there is a reason why they do it that way. As far as I am concerned it's a defense chopping stabbing n throwing weapon that I see cannibalizing other rattle snakes on trails n intimidate the lookers on long bike rides.. lol

@DBAD - A company called White Deer makes 3 different clones of this knife, with different steels. One version is a 5mm thick high carbon stainless steel (420HC I assume). The 2nd version is 4.5mm thick Japanese CP steel (I honestly don't know what that is). Both versions are $40. The 3rd version is supposedly 5mm thick D2 steel, and costs $75. I'm admittedly intrigued by all 3 Bowies. I also saw a review of the high carbon stainless steel version, with pictures, and it had some rust on it. I'm going to assume it's not 420 stainless like the knife in your video. The pictures also indicated that the sheath leather retention strap, can be rotated to be secured on the non-edge side of the knife, which is a big positive. You reviewed a Crocodile Dundee knife from White Deer. I'm not sure what steel it was made from. I'd be interested to know if you think the White Deer versions of this Bowie knife are any good. Hopefully my comment will go through this time! If the knives really are 5mm thick 420HC or D2, and they're decently heat treaded, those are pretty good prices.

What an incredible knife, I would buy one. Now I would use a knife like that if I was in a western movie, but it would have to be razor sharp and the construction of it was heavy-duty. Because I love the scene from the movie 'The Alamo" where John Wayne takes Jim Bowies knife and whacks someone with the butt of the knife over someone's head. Not really my cup of tea at this point, but it might have been once while learning about knives and my own needs/preferences. Any idea what type of steel it is?
