    That thing with the bold in and a ground whire is the rectificator who was cooled by the ride wind in his old spot, my fireblade he was sitting on the back of the subframe and the more they age the thinwelds in the casting cracks, I emptied him and refreshed the thin, but before you know it is this thing why your engine is turninh off when it gets hot, you're already crazy about searching. Now that you are doing it to your buddy without any ride wind, I hope he does not get too hot and cools enough and goes along with it for a long time! Ilove your worspace, my sevenfifty must also have such a living room to undergo the same operations! success and pleasure in building, I enjoy it and it is not so much learning but gives me ideas of solutions for my project. Big Thanks from holland

    I used an old side panel of a PC CPU to make the same box, for free. It's a very good idea.

    Dude I'm doing the same thing with my Honda 2T wiring lomb, shortening the wires to fit under the seat is all about patience and doing it one wire at a time I feel

    Hey Man, these are awesome vids! Thanks a lot for documenting/recording this project. I'm doing the exact same thing with a 92 CB750 that i acquired recently. It will be my 1st build with frame and wiring modification. I really appreciate you taking the time to do this - i will be referencing your vids often and possibly even sending you a message or two. Good luck with everything

    Great job as usual. Would you recommend a small spot welder to do mini jibs for the home workshop non pro occasional inexperienced user? If so, any specific type/range?

    That module that was located up near the steering stem looks like the regulator/rectifier. This will get pretty hot and looks like it was mounted up there on a decent piece of frame to use as a heat sink.

    I'm guessing the little relay thing may be a Selenium or silicone rectifier to convert the current from the stator from AC to DC to charge the battery. I'm no expert but working on a 1962 Honda with my son at the moment and have a rectifier thingy next to the battery connection.
    We are at the electrical stage also...... Great fun playing with all that coloured spaghetti.
    Keep the vids coming - really good and educational mate.

      Someone told me is was a starter solenoid but I'm still yet to find a smaller one 😕
      That's a cool project for father and son

    • @DaniHart
      @DaniHart 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Bull the rectifier is the one under the tank now we com to that i think it needs the ride wind to cooldown, if not the time age and the tin weld in it crack the time this happand you find the bike leave you stranded anywhere, you find yourself heatup breaking youre head why the damn thing only start when it gets cold enough the tinwelds come togehter an it starts again. Well ot is the rectifier. From outside it looks okey. I refreshed one and put aluminium cooleribs in the cast component, never ever it happand again

    Also: is it possible to have a thin rubber or strong plastic strip that clips on to edges in order to eliminate rattle or clanging that may occur over time? Strips similar in shape to the blade protection covers on wood saws that slip on and off

    I know exactly the feeling when looking at a loom like that! Feels hopeless! :-) You're on the right path on this one. That relay...my guess is it's a starterrelay. But I might be wrong. Merry Christmas!

    • @CafeRacerGarage
      @CafeRacerGarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John, Thank you, I went looking for a smaller relay but no luck so far, I'm thinking of building a separate box just for this part. Merry Christmas mate, I hope Santa brings you lots of cool stuff :)

    Great video mate. Are you going to run a lithium battery? If so will you need to change the voltage regulator? How do you know if you need to. I would like to put a lithium battery on my cb250 cafe racer. Some people have told me I my need to. Cheers

    • @CafeRacerGarage
      @CafeRacerGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sean Hunt great questions Sean, I'm using a Shorai battery and as far as I know I don't need to change anything to make it work. I used it to start the bike for the first time but not sure about charging just yet. The battery is super light. About the same weight as 2-3 iPhones, it's crazy light!! 👍

    That small black box is a starter solenoid- do not take it apart, it is not serviceable! Of course you can troubleshoot the leads or replace it all together, but I doubt there is anything much smaller. I have the same model/year nighthawk as you and learned this bit of information the hard way!

    Run an M-Unit and a lithium micro battery, both will probably fit under seat.

    • @CafeRacerGarage
      @CafeRacerGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thankyou Mathew, I've been playing with the idea of the M-Unit but how exactly does an M-unit Improve what Honda already has in place? Do you know what can get removed from the harness if anything? The wiring is honstly the part I dread most.

    • @TheBrooklynHustle
      @TheBrooklynHustle 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cafe Racer Garage sparck moto makes simple harnesses.

  • @stevenpharis3217
    @stevenpharis3217 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The harness looks factory. Honda did lots of splicing like that back in the day. You sure that relay isn’t the starter relay? That black box might be the stop safety circuits Honda used. Usually those are removed without issue. Gives indication of failed brake and/or tail lights. The wire colors on it indicate a rectifier though I’ve not seen one housed in plastic like that before.

    • @CafeRacerGarage
      @CafeRacerGarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Steve, Merry Christmas, I would love to remove it but I'm a little worried about removing something with a fuse,
      I think I will make a small box to hide it by painting it black. Thank you for your comment, where can I find out more about this part? you seem to have some good knowledge :)

    • @stevenpharis3217
      @stevenpharis3217 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is the starter relay without question. That fuse is probably the primary fuse to the whole bike. No removing it. I looked up the number on the other box near the coils and that’s the rect (just like the wire colors indicated), so unless you swap it for a different unit it has to stay as well. You could source an aftermarket rect that is much smaller if space gets tight. It’s looking good!

      Tom Widlake I did answer this in the other video but just in case you didn’t see it, I use 1.6 steel plate :)

  • @amayhew94
    @amayhew94 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    It’s a starter relay, you can replace it with a blade style fuse holder.

    • @CafeRacerGarage
      @CafeRacerGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for that Alex. I'm not totally sure what to search for on google to find this?

    • @amayhew94
      @amayhew94 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cafe Racer Garage part number is 35850-MT4-000
      Type it in on goodle or eBay, and the exact one that fits it that Honda uses for most of there bikes should pop up. If you can’t find it let me know and I will send you one.
