It's amazing what a nice rug, proper curtains, a small book cabinet, at least 1 piece of art, a coffee table (games console hidden in the cupboard under the TV) would do to the first house livingroom. It would transform it massively. I wouldn't mind a house looking like that, like my student house did in my early 20's. By the time I was 30, I was a little more 'house proud'.
Hey Gent ! I’m a woman … and I like all your videos … because I like the classy, stylish vibe … and your great sense of humour … quite hilarious sometimes :-) 🎉
"Why is this not safe for work? It's meant to be a house?" The the reveal. That really made me laugh! A really nice video format :) I'd be interested to have you rate mine haha
I am am single man and I have gone through my phases and finally found what I like. I live in a house made in 1890 on 2.5 acres that I raise chickens, ducks, and pigs. I live with my dog and my cat(who is more like a dog) and I never really cared about styling and interior decorating but I have been really into it lately trying for a old school southern gentleman styling but still trying to stay modern(I do game sometimes so I do have a nice PC setup). My house is a hodgepodge of furniture that my parents gave to me that I grew up with that they were going to throw out and pieces that I have bought myself over the years. Call it nostalgia or trying to hold on to my past but I can't seem to get rid of some pieces as I grew up with them. They feel like a part of me. This was a great video of dos and don'ts. Thanks for sharing and thank you for what you do! God bless!
You don't have to keep every single one of the pieces. Are there any at all that you can part with? You can take photos if that will help you to hold on to the memories.

lol this format was hilarious, please do more videos like this. What would your recommendation be for those of us living in extremely small spaces? I actually live in a 19 ft travel trailer but there's probably a lot of people living in small studios who have limited options when it comes to aesthetics.
While I am a bit older than yourself (and I believe the target audience), I have to say you have created a very enjoyable vibe for this channel. Your taste and knowledge are typically spot on and I enjoy how you add just enough tasteful humor. And the smooth Jazz background music is perfect, would love to know what music that is (I’m sure you’ll agree there’s nothing worse than videos with valuable content but backed by music so horrible you turn it off and unsubscribe). As for decor, I always like to compliment the architecture of the space. When I lived in a modern condominium, I decorated in mid century modern (not quite as well as you). Once I moved to a turn of the century house, I went for a more of a simplified art deco / 1930s’ vibe. Keep the good videos coming.
I just want to say you have seriously been on point with your videos. You always have something new coming down the pipeline and I can really see you are putting in the work. Keep on that grind👏🏻
I am a lady and I enjoy this channel. The apartment with the leather sofa and the Persian rug was the best one. I'd run out the bathroom window if I were invited to the 3rd one with the mask and the mannequin.
I really enjoyed this video! You maintained a composed commentary, parcing through different people's lives on display whilst still trying to extend them dignity at the same time! I would also agree that your commentary was fair for the rooms presented.
I really enjoyed this format and always love to hear about interior design (just saw the 7 items video as well). And nice to see some of your humour in this
It would be a great idea if you review apartments/ homes of your subscribers , it would be a really interesting and hands on video idea . I've just converted my room into an 1960s bachelor pad with a bar and a stereo system , if you want i can send a couple of photos in .
I think a series going over fictional Gentlemen’s home decor could be great. James Bond Jamaica house(Skyfall and No Time to Die), Bruce Wayne’s many homes (The Dark knight and The Batman), The Killers home (David Fincher Film), Patrick Batemans, Castle Caladan (dune part 1), The Pearlman’s Italian Villa (Call me by Your Name), Jack’s ikea apartment (fight club), Sebastian’s house post break up (Lala Land), The Malibu mansion (iron man 1-3), any of the Roy’s houses (succession). They’re all full of plenty of inspiration for young men
Re: the Richmond Folk Festival. It is the major annual music and arts festival here in Richmond, Va, USA. The posters have become local collectors items; the other posters also look rather "Richmond". So I would say that for a 20s budget, they do give it a strong "sense of place" or at least highlight one's interests (e.g. ecclectic music), even if it does seems quirky. The key to any art, though, is making sure they are properly framed (if prints) and otherwise properly hung.
Excellent video, especially of how important our environment makes of us as a person. This video presents an idea of doing a full gentleman makeover guide video I believe you should do in the future. Turning around young guys into polished gents in discussing fundamental aspects such as mindset, etiquette, grooming, fashion, fitness, and lifestyle in one practical course-like video here at TH-cam. I'd like to think about it like Terrence Young showing Sean Connery the good life to fully transform him for the role of James Bond before Dr. No. Ambitious idea really 😂 but nonetheless, I'd still constantly watch and learn from your videos.
The music for this video is so perfect! Well done. Your music is always top tier but there was just something special about having that gentle piano music playing in the background while seeing all this chaos up front lol. It was a winning combination 😄 Thanks for doing this! Keep it up!
idk if you read the reasons for why he broke up, but according to the description he divorced the second one for drug issues. Not so sure about the first.
Oh my god...the funniest line so far appeared on the screen when he checked the comments for that 70s sex den room..."I think one more ball gag would really tie the room together...". LOLOL I tip my hat to the funny person who came up with that gem. Lol.
You are very sweet and polite. I am thinking terrible and mean things about what I'm seeing, and yet you still try to be calm and nice about the views.
A gentleman doesn't judge others who are suffering, be it from depression or divorce. He never looks down on others but if asked will help lift others up. Do better young man.
Yes, I see your complaints. I painted one of my walls with "determined orange" from Sherwin Williams and also bought two Tiffany Lamps? I also have a nearly 3K custome made "Gypsy Scarlet" Sectional from Jonathan Louis Furniture In LA. Not too bad. I have some generic copied oil paintings from Menards on the walls.
I love the teddy bear and most of my (girl) friends would, too. It's actually new from IKEA and the picture doesn't do justice to Mr. Teddy anyway--it's super huggable and just plain cute.

Love this idea of looking at other aspects of a gentlemans life!! When i was single, the way i approached most things was, what i like and never much worried about what anyone else including women would think. Ive always leaned towards western and practical. A couple of paintings/pictures nothing extravagant and basic but comfortable furniture. I agree a coffee table is important!! Since 90 percent of my time was spent outside when i was home i just wanted a comfortable place to sit, read and sleep. 🤷♂️ still to this day I dont have cable. Radio (listen as well as transmit), and reading. The one thing ive always had and still do is stuffed animals. My kids have always bought them for me and even when working in a max jail i had one close by. Keeps me honest thinking about my little ones watching me. As well not bad to cuddle with on sleepness nights. 🤷♂️ Instead of keeping my now wife awake. Women like to know you can take care of them and yourself, also like to know you have a soft side too. 😉 Never forget who you are!! Cheers, beers and whiskey 🤠 🥃
That was fun, for some reason I enjoyed that. I’m single and live in a small bungalow built in 1952, I take good care of my home. And am quite proud of it.
If you're hanging something nude on your wall, better make sure the photographer was at least Helmut Newton (or of comparable quality). By the way, the pictures in the stairwell are not only similar to the Duran Duran cover, they are by the same artist / graphic designer: Patrick Nagel.
can you do a video on artwork? different styles, how little, how much, etc. Looking to get some but I dont know whats a cool statement piece and whats tacky, also what rooms to have certain paintings in and if pics of family or friends is gay or weird etc
I actually really liked the last one aside from the bed. I actually think it did display some personality, but to each his own. (The plants, the art, the overall aesthetic. Etc).
@@djlivvy46 yeah I guess better than most folks place that I’m used to seeing. Idk it’s kind of like me having $2,000 in my savings and dismissing how “bad” some houses look, meanwhile the house costs like $800K so way out of my budget. Who am I to judge? My home is so bare bones. I live in a 1980s trailer. 🤣
This is funny as Hell. I can’t ever image taking some dudes advice how to live in the house I’m paying for. I’m 53 and my entire house looks like a teenage headbanger from the 1980s. I have over 3000 CDs, 1000 vinyl records, DVDs, five book shelves all over the place. Also autographed music posters covering every wall in the living room, hallway, bedrooms, and even some in the kitchen. As far as lighting there’s Christmas lights everywhere YEAR round. Instruments in three rooms maybe 25+ guitars. The walls are all painted lime green, purple, or black. Not to mention several taxidermies deer and elk and gun racks.
Couches are for more intimate communications whereas a 2 chair and small coffee table setup are for more intellectual and business oriented communications.
could you make a video on handwriting and penmanship? Ive struggled with trying to write in a sophisticated way and not like a messy child. Also I liked the review style video a lot and I think an r/mensfashionadvice video would be good
As a night person, I think blackout curtains is a must. The living room didn't look like a drug den to me (although I don't understand why someone would need blackout curtains in the living room) but the bedroom 100% did haha. Maybe it's because the curtains doesn't look like curtains there, it looks more like some black cloth patches covering the windows
I personally like minimalism. My house is more like a “cabin”, rustic design, it’s really just a vacation home I bought near a resort. I try to have art on the wall themed to the area, and one painting of my dog that passed away.
The artwork in the hall is Nagel it says it on the bottom of one. They remind you of that duran duran album because Patrick Nagel is the artist who did the cover art.
#4) exactly looks like he’s just starting out from under his parents wing 🐣 & is still finding himself 🕵️♂️ . Lets hold out hope & send good vibes 😃 ❤
First apartment. The cardboard boxes don’t look good. It looks like video games are your only interest. Get a bookcase and buy some books from charity shops. Get couple lamps and a rug. Change curtains. The bedroom needs a clean and tidy. Put the bed on a blank wall not under a window. Get some side tables. Second apartment. Has really made an effort. That’s not bad at all. Just desk not in a great place. The teddy bear is from IKEA maybe his girlfriend gave it to him. Third apartment looks clean and tidy. He’s made an effort. Yes some creepy things though. Fourth apartment bedroom looks like an office. Get a bigger bed. Nice bedding. Side tables. A plant. Living room looks a bit barren and basic. Sofa update. Lamp. Plants. Coffee table. Oh this was so much fun 😂😂😂😂. Thank you
What I learned is a lot of men live in drug looking dens. Also 100% would run but I'm also in design so I'm rather sensitive to spaces and how they make me feel. Having intentionality, warmth, practicality, personality, design is important for me
Hey James, I'm noah I'm 15 and your videos are awesome, I'm looking to join your skool group currently can't afford it though, just wanted to say thanykou very much my confidence had gone up , I wear suits everywhere now, even when it's not socially acceptable
The artwork in the NSFW 70s p*rn decor is actually really cool. The Duran Duran “style” pieces are prints of Patrick Nagel’s work, the same artist who did that cover of their Rio album. The 3 paintings of hands in the living room are prints of paintings by artist Edmund Liang. His work is mostly homoerotic, with the “limp wrist” piece being a celebration of something that’s often taunted and maligned by masc culture. I think you understood the semiotics of the other two hands… So based on that and the other very hetero pieces, my guess is the owner/renter is bisexual, or at least an LGBTQ ally, and certainly into BDSM. I think the post mentions his girlfriend is moving in soon, so it’s likely she’s into similar. The decor would just give me kinky sex-positive vibes more than anything, except for the fake trophy head of a woman on the wall… I guess that’s… um…. humour..? Yeah that puts it over the distaste line for me. But it wouldn’t take too much editing to have this place looking very retro chic. On another note… what’s going on with your non parallel camera angle and the plant and guitar half disguising that vent and weird little door behind you? Difficult corner to dress, admittedly, but I feel like half hiding it is actually drawing attention, and worse than just letting it be plain and practical. A better option than trying to cover it would be to leave it unadorned, and instead distract from that area by arranging stronger pieces nearby. For the shot, you could probably just frame it out altogether if you straighten the camera.
Any advice on how to manage a small room? I try to have my workspace and guest space but it gets cramped easily Need any advice on how to create a comfortable vibe without sacrificing practicality in a small space I can't afford to change
Yeah, the nude posters are very college dorm like. Like, I had a nude poster of a chick that I put on the inside of the door and so if anyone came in the door was open and they couldn't the other side. 😆
It's called being a minimalist. There's no shame in this. Some of us can barely afford to pay our basic bills and aren't too concerned about "picking up babes" (or "bringing home women" as you call it). Maybe when I get that six-figure raise, I'll worry about my place looking like it was furnished by the Great Gatsby.
There’s definitely a lot of shame and if there wasn’t, that’s even more concerning! I used to live that way in a trashy condo due to circumstances and being broke and dependent on my dad at the time for a place to stay. My dad could not care less about his place. It looked like squatters were living here. A motel 6 would have been nicer. My dad wasn’t poor. It was like he’d almost die a little each time he’d open up his wallet! Fast forward to now, and I still live in condo. I live here alone. My dad passed away 9 years ago and since then I took it upon myself to make this place my palace. It’s always a work in progress, but it definitely is my palace. I have pride in having guests over now. And any shame I did have about my life, went down drastically. If your space is nice, then you’ll have much more confidence.
I agree with you with respect to nude photography. The ones he has look like Playboy centerfolds. However this doesn’t apply to art. I collect art and love French impressionists and contemporary paintings many are nudes.

could you make a video on handwriting and penmanship? Ive struggled with trying to write in a sophisticated way and not like a messy child. Also I liked the review style video a lot and I think an r/mensfashionadvice video would be good
Benjamin Franklin suggested to work on your signature first.
The first guys house looks like a work in project to me. I helped style my mother's house and it looked more or less like that for a couple days.
I personally like minimalism. My house is more like a “cabin”, rustic design, it’s really just a vacation home I bought near a resort. I try to have art on the wall themed to the area, and one painting of my dog that passed away.
That's Nagel art. Same artist for the Duran Duran Rio album cover.
9:20 - The subtle serial killer aesthetic!
That was one creepy living space. Sheesh. What the he ll.
… those are 80s Nagels
used on Duran Duran album
I appreciate you not pulling any punches. Two of those were horrid.
Can a poor guy with one room kinda small apartment live like a gentleman? Greetings from germany❤
Of course! You can stamp your personality on any space, no matter how small.
Do they have thrift stores and Facebook Marketplace in Germany?
Great video... love your discerning critiques.
Lets hold out hope & send good vibes 😃 ❤
this was hilarious!
You spotting that gimp mask was hilarious
I found that subreddit a month ago and it's fun to listen to someone else's opinion on the posts there.
It's not just any old teddy bear, It's DJUNGELSKOG!!!
I think you should have regular uploads of you just doing this for men's apartments and maybe having submitted closets for clothing feedback.
Having intentionality, warmth, practicality, personality, design is important for me
I‘d like to see more of those videos!
Loved the reference to the FBI! So true!!
Hey James, I'm noah I'm 15 and your videos are awesome, I'm looking to join your skool group currently can't afford it though, just wanted to say thanykou very much my confidence had gone up , I wear suits everywhere now, even when it's not socially acceptable
Richmond folk festival is fire
I try to have my workspace and guest space but it gets cramped easily
Need any advice on how to create a comfortable vibe without sacrificing practicality in a small space I can't afford to change
Honestly i was kinda hoping he'd have a few of the more insane ones in this, like the double decker couch or the reverse loft bed/desk.
Good Grief. Hampers are foreign to Bachelors. The Bedroom needs a good cleaning, and Vacuuming. Also he needs to declutter his drawer.
"Vapes are not aesthetic." Truly, I have stumbled upon an excellent channel.
i enjoyed this video a bit of humor :D
Yeah, the nude posters are very college dorm like. Like, I had a nude poster of a chick that I put on the inside of the door and so if anyone came in the door was open and they couldn't the other side. 😆
Most of the artwork in all these homes was hung too high....8-10" off the top of the couch is the most pleasing
This is definitely not minimalism. 😂😂
lol, well, I didn't say it was good minimalism.
@@keithaw4204 - oh wow, I'm so happy for you! ♥️
I agree with you with respect to nude photography. The ones he has look like Playboy centerfolds. However this doesn’t apply to art. I collect art and love French impressionists and contemporary paintings many are nudes.
I still don't know if I would have that type of art in my living or dining room though?
@@djlivvy46 I agree. It is a very polarizing thing to have.
