Entertaining playthrough as always, keep them coming! I caught some misplays on top of those you already noticed. Hope you don't mind if I share them with you. - You forgot to gain essence with the gunman after the first chest. That would be a couple of more essence for him which could come handy later. - When there are two different effects for an action, you don't have to pick one, you do them both. (The Force Alternator is actually the example for this in the rulebook.) - Obstacles do not block LoS, but they do stand in the way in case your ranged attack is the simple circle type. So the Moonbeast wouldn't see the gunman to pull him in. - When you have an attack that affects multiple targets, you only roll once and apply the result to every target. - At the end, the explorers were not equidistant in relation to the Byakhee. The gunman was 2 spaces away while the other was at 3. (But it went after the former anyway.) - Minor thing: the token you used for the closed door is actually for marking the destroyed state. The closed door marker is token in a standee just like the explorers and monsters. Not a rule mistake but you could make your life much easier if you used the mystic's other ability against the Sarall. You could just automatically move it into the pit and (here comes the funny part) the stupid bird would teleport right there to his place of death. Killing him instantly too. (This interaction's legality was confirmed by the author on BGG.)
This is invaluable information Peter!! Thank you so much. I’ll make sure to mention these at the beginning of the next playthrough. This is super important to know. I tried my best to understand the rules but looks like you have this game down perfect. Thanks for all the help and thanks for watching 😃😃👍
@@OneStopCoopShop Well, you are not the only one who makes mistakes. During our first run we completely missed the part that horror events increase the monster threat. That made things a bit easier than intended. :)
@@OneStopCoopShop just realized one more important thing about actions and their effects, if an action has a range (melee/ranged symbol) it affects the target (if there is no range, then it is the activating unit), so the ability on the gunman's card affects the target, it is a 1 white die attack and range reduction for the target and not yourself (and this later ability kicks in even if you missed the attack)
This series is by far the best playthrough of this game on youtube. The closeups are great and everything shown is in focus. I know it's a lot of work and setup but all of the different camera views make it superior. Cheers!
I'm so happy Juraj and his team decided against using minis. It would have raised the price drastically, and honestly there's absolutely no reason to have them, standees work perfectly well with this game. I've played only a couple of times so far, sadly (I want to play it every day, it's that good), and every time it was a defeat, but unlike many other games, you don't feel that defeat too heavily, you still had a blast getting to that gruesome end, the game simply rewards you with amazing gaming experience regardless of the outcome, if you win or lose. We got so excited both times during the endgame of that scenario, we almost got it the second time, we cried when we rolled badly, we jumped up from our chairs when we scored hits and dealt killing blows... Those are the markings of an awesome game. :) So interesting to see that the first event card is restore health to explorers, and the first horror is to restore health to monsters XD
What a great comment. I totally agree this game leaves you in the edge of your seat. I didn’t even think about the 2 different cards being so similar. That’s funny. I agree about the standies especially for the monsters. they are not on the board usually for more then a round. I would have been ok with the characters being minis, but either way this game is great. Thanks for such a great comment and thanks for watching 😃😃👍
I absolutely love miniatures and typically love getting a ton of them in a game (if there's an actual thematic point to there being so many) but I also believe not every game requires them or benefits from them. Sometimes the more minis there are the more cluttered the play area gets and/or the set up time is extended a bit more. One big example in my opinion is Folklore. The minis aren't the greatest to begin with in my opinion and trying to get a copy with them pushes the price up quite a bit. The standees are a really good quality, easy to see on the board. I wouldn't mind having the minis but I don't feel like I'm missing anything by not having them. I do like those ghost minis though and the good thing is they are cheap and readily available (unlike the box of regular minis) haha. Also...there's nothing really stopping anyone from pulling a similar themed mini from any other game and just using that instead. This game seems like it may be somewhat like Folklore or even Gloomhaven in that regard...might be nice to have the minis but not a necessity at all really to enjoy the game, story and mechanics.
Bairnt, this was awesome! First off, replace that die (and use it only when you need to roll high). Second, maybe you want to move to the other corner to gain health - otherwise you'll never gain the upper hand on these eternally spawning monsters. Finally, I can't wait to see what happens next - even if it's a 5-minute video cuz you get wiped out immediately. I'll meet you at the Co-op Shop.
Hahahhah!!! Totally need to change out that die. I am a little worried about the rest of the chapter. Iv took so much damage they just don’t stop hitting me. Gaining health should be my priority for sure. Thanks for the great comment and thanks for watching 😃😃👍
I think you missed giving Jesse an essence after opening the chest at 23:15. Really great playthrough so far. This game is brutal, but I love it. I played this scenario the other day. Really fun! Thanks for sharing and good luck with the rest of this scenario.
Eric Maxham thank you. I’m having a blast playing though the game. Did you make it through the scenario when you played? Your right I did miss the essence for Jesse. There were a few other things as well and I’ll be mentioning them in the next video. Thanks for the great comment, and thanks for watching. 😃😃👍
@@OneStopCoopShop Yes, I barely beat it. I had 1 health left and no essence at the end. I saw a few other small mistakes as well, but I didn't think most of them had affected your game too much so I didn't write them down (looks like someone else added a nice list for you in the comments though). My one critique of this game is the rulebook. For a relatively simple ruleset, the rules seems scattered to me in the rulebook and each time I skim through I see another detail that I missed in a place I wouldn't expect to find it. Good luck, it's been a pretty rough start for you!
Your comment is great I agree with your critique. Congrats on the on the win I find this game really tense. It’s not an easy win if you get through which is sweet.
Great enthusiastic play through! Minor rule misses are easy to make with this game due to there is a lot of little things to remember. Don't forget to use Artemis' ability to move creatures into pits. This can eliminate the powerful creatures easily!
Thanks for the the hint. I misunderstood how his power worked. Secret inside Info I use that power in the next video 😃. Glad you liked the video, and yes there are going to be a few rules misses but I’ll discuss them in the next video. Thanks for the great comment and thanks for watching. 😃😃👍
I really enjoy your play style of walking through this and could really care less about the minor misses of rules. You make the game seem fun to play and that's what gaming should be! Best wishes!
Thanks. It is a blast to play these games. I do like to get everything right, but sometimes it doesn’t happen. That’s were subtitles come in😃. Also in the next video I try to explain a few of the errors so people can use these videos to learn. I really enjoy making these for everyone.
Monster acitons and activation can be really tricky, but there's a few helpful posts on BGG by Juraj, the creator. Basically, monsters will first try to cycle through their actions (their card, then bound horror event, then horror event in that order), if unable they will check if they can destroy closed doors, and if none only then will they move and only one step, before reassessing the whole situation and cycling through their options. I've made many a mistake with monster activation, before Juraj gave us that clarification on monster behaviour. For example, moonbeast has it set up nicely for himself that for his 5 stamina it can pull the explorer to himself and attack him, providing he doesn't have to move to waste stamina. It's a pretty elegant system, and although the manual refers to them as "mindless", they are for sure efficient :D
"monsters will first try to cycle through their actions (their card, then bound horror event, then horror event in that order)" This is not correct. (Also I'm not sure if bound horror events exist at all - rulebook mentions only binding explorer events) "PLAYING ACTIVE ABILITIES : A monster will always try to first play the active abilities from the current horror event, then active abilities in the order they are specified on the unit card. Unless stated differently, it will only target explorers."
@@csonti3725 It seems there's discrepancy between the Official Player Aid and the Rulebook on this, I've noticed it after posting this comment. What I wrote is from the OPA, but then I noticed that the rulebook says differently. But the OPA does reference binding horror events so I'd say they are a thing, I haven't run across one myself yet :) On second thought, the OPA might be unclear. It says that monsters will do stuff in the priority as listed, and in the first place it's "play active abilities" which lists monster card also in first place. Maybe the descending order of priority doesn't extend to the list under "play active abilities". In any case, it should be reworded to be in line with the rulebook, I'll drop Adreama an email on this :) EDIT: My apologies Péter, I had a slightly older version of OPA, I downloaded a copy from MA website and it lists the actions in the same way as rulebook. I'm sorry to have caused confusion.
Juraj confirmed the rulebook version (which makes more sense anyway) boardgamegeek.com/article/33674777#33674777 Edit: I checked and my player aid shows the correct order (with bound horror events mentioned at the top)
Nice tot see everyone is working together to tackle this game. It’s a lot of fun. There are quite a few rules Peter has been in invaluable resource. Thanks for the great question and thanks for watching 😃😃👍
Thank glad you enjoy the playthough. The card sleeves I received are from the Kickstarter as an add on. The big one is 125x88. The normal size cards fit snugly in standard USA size 57.5x89 it’s a snug fit. And the small card fit in 45x68 mini euro cards. The item cards I don’t know the size. I no longer have the pack that they came in. If you ask on bgg some one should be able to help. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching 😃😃👍
There was an activation mistake with the Yaddithian monster. The outcome of the activation would not have changed. I will discuss the error in the next video. Also I used a new video and editing software and there are a few camera stutters that I am not happy with. Thank you for your patience enjoy.
Thanks for playthrough. I just received the game and the manual is not that clear. I am going to print those playersheets, they look very handy. One point on he playthrough: Shouldn't Jesse have more essence because he used 3 chests. That would mean he could activate the chapter space way earlier.
Your welcome glad you got your game. Yea you are totally correct I missed gaining an essence for the chest. I’m going to.correct it in the next video. Thanks for the help and thanks for watching 😃😃👍
I'm a little unclear how the spear works. When you threw it early on, you unequipped it....I get that part. But in my mind, you threw it at the monster 2 spaces away. Is it still in your inventory then? You keep referencing that you will re-equip it, but I guess maybe I'm overthinking with too much logic. Wouldn't the spear be 2 spaces away? You don't have to go over there and recover it before you can re-equip?
It would make thematic sense to have to go get the spear, but this game just “incorporates” that into the inventory action. Just think it has a rope attached and I had to pull it back to reequip it 😃. Thanks for the great comment and thanks for watching 😃😃👍
That's a great playthrough. I must say I was looking into Machina arcana 5 years ago, but couldn't find it anywhere, so I gave up. But this looks like right down my alley. I really liked the original graphic design, this one is "busy" kind of but it looks nice too. Just one question. Have you ever tried with 1 investigator, or is that something that shouldn't be done in this game? If there is ever a reprint on KS, I want to know more :) Also I'm going to refer to Yaddithian as yada yada.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. It is a fun game, and full of suspense. You never know what could happen each turn. I do like the art direction they went with this addition. You can play with one explorer. The difference is you only roll once for the monster spawn phase. I haven’t tried it so I don’t know how much more difficult it is. Thanks for the great comment and may Yada Yada not haunt your dreams 😃😃👍

Here on One Stop we have multiple creators and we discuss when to post them so we don’t overwhelm the views. Hope that answers your question. Thanks Patrick as always for watching 😃😃👍
