Hi Kev, I just went to someone's You Tube, who teaches Blender, and I was going to give
him an offer to put Blender effects on public domain pictures of like mountains, nature, for 10$ a photo,
to just, "throw some nodes" on there. I saw that he's not that good, and so the jobs open.
It's like a movie, every picture is a background. I know how to do it, but I've got to reserve
my desktop for the characters, b/c I have the voice files, and stuff.

    Hey man need some advice,
I love vfx/animation but there Just to much risk at the time, the ai is slowly taking over lot of jobs from the industry and this growth will only keep increasing exponentially,
I can say myself to do what i like, but after 6-10 years where the industry will be nobody can predict, in my country and in most countries the VFX/ animation jobs are quite at risk studios shrinking itself, new freshers are very difficult to get job, and if there is a job its so underpaid that, just transportation can be done with that money nothing else, i am interested and can spend entire days learning, but what i fear is when i finish learning, there wouldn't be a job, and,
This is just the case right now, as of 2024 but 5-8 years later or what will happen to the industry we may never know.
So an industry that is currently suffering to provide stable jobs, with the threat of ai and how exponentially it grows what do you think i should do.
Should i give 3-4 years of my life in learning this, and would there be a job at the end of it.
Your answer will really mean a lot.

Thanks for reaching out. Anything I say comes from years of doing this work professionally, but in no way gives me a crystal ball to see the future, but here goes…
Gen “AI” is garbage, oversold, and full of thieves and grifters. That said, Wall St., vulture capital, and private equity always move toward “efficiency,” which is code for cutting labor (humans) out. This (AI) is the ultimate wet dream of these idiots. The damage they will do until this bubble pops will be horrific.
That said, “AI” as it stands can’t provide the quality and consistency that traditional and digital methods can. We are seeing this more and more as the cracks start appearing in their bullshit tools (including Sora) and narrative. It’s a parlor trick, and one that consumes massive energy, needs unlimited new data, and is extremely exploitive. It WILL crash hard, but no one knows when, and how much damage it will do in the meantime. It’s all a ploy to sell hardware and cloud services, hence the massive investment and horrible PR campaigns.
I will say that aside from trades like plumbing, construction, electrical, and local farming, there’s really no job that’s safe, including those, “if” robots can mimic human motion. It’s ALL a big “IF,” and the tech bro idiots live to push their bullshit and spread hype just to get VC money and gaslight politicians to make their theft machines legal. It won’t last.
I’m forging ahead. AI WILL make cool strides IN our tools. Things like denoising, roto assist (not replace,) style transfer, and the machine learning integration that SideFX is adding to Houdini that lets you train on your own data to get faster flow is all good. Also, things like render management and backend AI tools that just make our lives easier are coming, but will likely take a hit due to the fallout of all the other bullshit going in when things crash.
The bottom line is that we can’t see the future, 5-8 years out could have me eating these words, but I don’t think so. No politician can survive more than 10% unemployment. If AI really starts displacing massive amounts of jobs, we will see massive action and backlash. Hold tight friend, and forge ahead with whatever you are best at.
      I hope this helps.

I have got into a merit list of a decent college for bachelor of science in VFX and animation,
its a 3 to 4 years course depending on your choice
But I need help whether I should do it or should I just " Lear to code" without any motivation and take CS
I have a month and half to decide
Self learning is not possible 👇
( I will have to do the degree, cause if I need to switch fields, in my country there is a requirement for undergrad, so I have to do the college just so I can switch to master in any other field, if this doesn't work )

    • @KevBinge
      @KevBinge  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@Watermallone CS is never a bad choice, almost ever. If you can minor in CS or VFX, both can and do play off each-other. CS will give you a hedge as tech will always keep moving, irrespective of hype and “AI.” If you can major/minor, that’s a solid plan. If not, make sure to take some CS classes WITH your VFX major if you can.
“Learn to code” is a bullshit mantra repeated by tech-bro dipshits. “Ai” can take those jobs faster than they can VFX. Copilot is already pretty useful, although it’s error prone and needs hand-holding by actual programmers. I don’t see that going away without MASSIVE data and compute, which cost $$$$.
If you don’t have motivation for CS, you will get bored quickly, and life is short. 3-4 years isn’t that long, and you can always keep up with what’s going on in the industry WHILE in school, and pivot from a place of strength.
College gets a bad wrap from the grifters, but it’s life-changing if you can manage the debt load.

@@KevBinge I am really thankful for your response
Doing CS without motivation can be hectic and is told to me by lots of people, it also requires heavy maths while doing the degree that I don't fancy either
The college I got into has placement from all the big studio, dneg, DreamWorks, disney studio, some studio of my own countries media industry, so If I managed to be in at least the top 20 of my college, there will be job, if I work hard, and I got scholarship so no dept, which is nice as well
I will ask people from my country working in the industry as well and consider the minor major suggestions that you have given, and decide upon it.
Thanks again for the response it really means a lot

I don’t like the scraping and profiting, that’s just piracy on a massive scale. I like AI or more aptly “ML” in our tools, that we as humans can guide. The hype and disgusting “learn to code” trolls and grifters have to go. SideFX allowing us to train on our own work, or small parts that accelerate our work and take away carpel tunnel, I’m all for that lol.
