Every time I ask for help making this subclass work on reddit, I just get a dozen people saying play Open Hand instead lol. Very glad to see this! Your builds have been super helpful!
I love this class thematically, but the high ki point costs across the board makes it so that the only spell worth using is Fangs of the Fire Snake imo.
Hat of Fire Acuity you can get at the start of act 2 works great with this. It procs twice on each of the fire snake attacks, four times on your flurry of blows after fire snake, and once on the free bonus action unarmed attacks with the fire gloves you can get from the lady trying to steal the gith egg, meaning your clench of the north wind lands almost guaranteed throughout the entirety of act 2 and 3 until you get Soul Catching gloves. Those are just way too broken to not use, and by that point you can put spell save dc stuff like cloak of the weave in some other gear slots and it still works
@@joshfire8812 they’re all dead in my playthrough with all the items hahaha. Unfortunately fighting them slows down combat a ton and makes it harder to showcase combat options, so that’s why I fight the Duke at the end

Open hand is a top 5 build in the game, but this one is so much fun! I decided to take it to level 12 since the ki points are extra important to the four elements monk. Water whip is a great replacement for fist of unbroken air! The ice cube I’ve tried to make it work but I’m not sure the best way when crates are so easy to use! The graceful cloth is great early game until you get the best of soul rejuvenation which is the best in slot for any monk!

I'll keep it in mind! I'll definitely be using those clothes! It's really easy to get to the Gith Creche very early so it wont be hard to get the graceful cloth early on.

@@e-duh3529 awesome have fun with the playthrough!! Helldusk gloves are great and they also give bleed on unarmed attack which is nice. The bonus scorching ray is also great. Corellon’s grace is a great weapon early game as it boosts your unarmed attacks as well
Love the gameplay of this monk but larian must have it bugged with its DC. Not sure how it works but punch which pushes for example may have a 70% against mages or 30% other times when it is a str roll... same with whip so low chance sometimes or 70% others. Not sure how it works... still having fun with the snake and fireball, only powers worth using, specially the snake.
Will you please make an element monk who throws the ice block.; or just give me a reply 1) Exactly how much strength does it take to lift the ice block? 2) Does barbarian bear ability, make it easier to lift the ice block? 3) are there any potions or gear that make it easier to lift the ice block? 4) Can you electrify or poison the ice block for electric or poisoning? 5) Can you oil/ on the ice block and use fire to blow it up? 6) can it melt/shatter/explode with fire/bludgeoning/grenades? 7) does it leave a water puddle when destroyed; if poisoned, electrified or oiled. Will it leave a corresponding puddle? 8) Does water bottle throwing get the tavern brawler bonus? 9) How many hit points does it have? 10) how many times can you throw the ice block? 11) can you cast spells on ice block? 12) buff it; meaning AOE spells? 13) If you cast a spell on top of it, then throw it; will the spell move with the ice block? 14) can you put items or creatures on the ice block and throw it, gnome with reduce person on top or a bottle of water or oil. I hope you see my comment. Please a video or just a response would be appreciated.

Want to try this I'm trying to get platinum in the Playstation maybe I'll run this with dark urge as as need those trophies. I've played open hand was actually my first ever character and my favorite of classes I even played a way of shadows and had assassin multi class in that but shadow monk primarily
Shadow monk is a lot of fun! This is a nice balance between a caster and a punch people in the face class hahaha. The monk is great. Open hand is my absolute favorite though
@@FelipeArthurferpa hahaha what great timing!! I’ve been experimenting a bunch with four elements monk. I think this is one of the few builds that benefits from staying single class to level 12 since ki points are soooo valuable to it
Man i just wish that all the "spells" cost like one less ki point across the board because after moving away from my open hand monk to a build similar to this it just feels ao bad to loss all your ki points in 2 turns. Especially since open hand deals more damage and has more ki points available for more impact control abilities (stunning strike and f.o.b. topple/push). I do really like the soul rejuvenation vest tho because if you get your ac high enough and use cloak of displacment you can use all of your attacks on your turn and intentionally trigger attack of opportunity and if they miss you get teo additional attacks due to extra attack so you can get a dumb amount of attacks if you take the 3 or 4 level dip into thief rogue. Like haste plus mind sanctuary plus wholeness of mind gets you a casual 12 PUNCHES IN A SINGLE TURN like its so busted. Definitely hope patch 7 changes the power of monk around for s bit of variety
@@jtmc658 great points! Open hand is WAY stronger, and one of the best builds in the game but this one is fun if you long rest often! Definitely sucks losing all your ki points so quickly, especially since the “spells” aren’t even as good as a Draconic sorcerer casting them. Maybe with mods people will rebalance the class because this one definitely needs it
I’m planning on working on a mod for the four element monk when patch 7 comes out, it’ll be my first mod so it might take a while but that’s one of the changes I want to make with it as for the 1 ki "spells" they’ll have the option to be used as bonus actions if you want to
The monk already gets so much movement speed, it’s nice to get more but you can play a wood half elf / wood elf and use crushers ring without spending a feat

Yeah agreed! There are mods that balance the ki point usage of this class which are really nice. Coming to console soon

I find the Hold Person variant is really helpful.
It allowed me to fight the Paladins at Moonrise very well.

I like putting a single level into storm cleric for the elemental reaction plus gives you things like thramaturgy and produce flame early on

It depends when you start sipping strength potions! You can get a ton from auntie ethyl so I recommend them

What do you think about 6 monk ( element or open hand) & 6 light cleric? Sun fire or holy fire monk? Tempest storm monk could be fun too…
