It's highly unlikely you'd waste an action for a scroll but i do want to give a headsup to anyone following in this build. if you build in the order the video shows then you will end on rogue which will make your spell casting modifier based off of intelligence where if your last level gained was monk it would be off of your high wis. so you can either start off rogue and once you hit 3 start working the monk. or you can just respec once you reach 10 on adding the new rogue level first then all your monk levels. As I said it's not a huge deal as it's unlikely you'll need to use your spell casting modifier but wanted to throw that out there in case someone would have him as a back up scroll flinger for some weird reason.
For me, I plan on going at least for in monk at the start, then switch to three in rogue for the Thief subclass' extra bonus action along with the extra proficiencies and expertise, then put the rest of my levels into monk.
You want to end as a monk because the ilithid powers will use your wisdom as it's spell modifier then. So the giant stunning cone for example. For you want to use the 22 wisdom or the 8 int? Naturally you upgrades your ilithid powers to bonus actions in the cresh.

The endgame build is to get Helm of Arcane acuity (Mason's guid, Act 2) to get unbeatable spell save DC and Band of the Mystic Scoundrel (Chult jungle, Act 3) to be able to cast all pink spells as a bonus action. You start the fight by using slashing flourish to attack twice (a total of 4 attack and +8 to spell save DC) and then casting something like Confusion, Hypnotic pattern, Hold person, or hold monster (Whatever the situation demands). At that point the fight is already won. For damage, Mustachio started the Titanstring bow (Zentharim merchants) + Club of Hill Giant Strength (Arcane tower in the underdark) combo. You're gonna need to use your level 4 feat to gain proficiency with long bows though. At level 8 you should already have the Marksman feat backed by the risky ring. Hi, this in an excellent guide thank u so much, but, i have a question im a total newbie here, it is worth to invest 1 point in cleric in the war domain to be able to get a 3 extra hits using the war priest charges?
war domain needs dev love and the answer is no, it's just not a good use of a bonus action in general and monks have some of the best bonus actions in the game. War domain as it exists currently is a buffer/controller that can do weapon damage and both of those worse than other classes/domains. The least they can do is replenish extra attack charges on short rest, even then it would still be just ok.
Its especially bad cause last time i played the warpriest kit bonus attack thing was actually semi bugged, it would even consume divine charges on normal extra bonus attacks randomly
He didn't mention it but if you asend asterian he gets 1d10 necrotic damage on hit. Since monks bonus action hits twice that's 2d10 necrotic damage per bonus action. That's why you want asterian. If you dont know about the ascension it's the non redemption arc of asterians story. you don't have to have him as the mc to get it. That being said open hand monks are oppressive to begin with so you don't need it but if the min maxing calls to you with it's sweet siren song that's who you want. On the subject of min maxing you can take the heart amulet from the house of hope to pump your con and drop it a bit to put points in charisma. If you start as asterian you get to choose his cantrip and can take friends. Between his happy buff, friends, the initial charisma skill buffs from level one rogue, and then expertise from ilithid powers 12 charisma is more than enough to be on warlock/bard levels of conversation skills. Early game weapons do more damage then fists and the sneak attack is easy to apply. Get phalar aluv and use that till you get level 6ish or beyond as the special from is buffs your allies and you offhand. Naturally you should have the titain string bow as it's benefits from your strength and dex scores. Since I'm here you should start with 17 wis 16 dex 12 charisma and the rest in con. You will start with dex ac. Next go kill karlack. The armor you get will give you a plus 1. Then do the shaddow druids quest and give the idol to mol for the 1 ac ring from mol. You now have 18 ac. When you get the hag hair that's 19 ac. Then wear the bracelets of defense from the lab in the blighted village for +2 def. All in that's 21 ac. You can get all of that by level 4ish. I would recommend waiting on the hag as one she's where you get strength pots and if you don't know how to beat her it can be "unpleasant" as she would say. Any questions?
@mrholeechit so monks get unarmored defense scaling from their wisdom assuming they aren't wearing armor. You'll know if a item is considered armor because it will say in the description but it will also tank your ac. Anyway with monks the unarmored def scales with wisdom just like dex does for everyone else. So by getting wisdom you will hit 18 granting you another ac. So that's 3 from the 16 dex, 4 from the 18 wisdom, 1 from the ring, and one from either the cat cloth clothing or the robes from killing karlach, and two from the gloves. So 10+3+4+1+1+2 for 21. Now the reason we want wisdom is one all the nasty cc in the game targets wisdom, the boots you get going into act 3 give you your wisdom modifier on unarmed attack (so 7 at max), your manifestations at level 6 also scale with wisdom. So that means your wisdom modifier is applied 4 times per bonus action. It's oppressive. Finally your ilithid powers will scale off wisdom assuming your last level was monk.
