  • I hated doing this but I had to. When watching this video you'll see where exactly you will need to drill and you may be able to use this information to not only save money but to do a cleaner job than I did.
    Please post pictures of what you did and describe what you did to do a better job than I did.
    Thank you everyone !! Please just "LIKE" the video.

    Hey Shawn: I feel your pain ,bless your persistence and success. Are you familiar with Electricians knock out fillers? They have Greenlee Draw Punches that require only a 1" wrench to punch it out to a trade conduit size.
    Ask an industrial electrician for a borrow. There may very well be a plastic filler available which could be siliconed for a weather proof repair.
    Another excellent tool , is a portable laptop camera on a half flex scope less than 100 bucks.
    I Appreciate the video: Proof that Ignorance is Bliss. You are one lucky dude with your site choice.
    There may very well be a youtube that uses an axe-crowbar approach.

      Lol, thank you for the solid advice Paul!
      It just feels great to have the option of having the top down again.

    Mine was also stuck. I flooded the key hole with WD-40. Let it set for a while and put my weight on back a few times. Was able to finally push to open trunk

    A butcher at work. You could've drilled a 1/4" hole and put a snake camera in there to locate the release lever. Then bend up a thin metal tool to reach in and release! 😲

    There is a way to manually override the roof retraction security button, so you can open the roof even if the safety shelf is not in its place.
    In the engine bay, where the fuses and relays are, you have to find a connection number 54 and take a wire from the negative of the battery to it... That will override the safety measure and you can actuate the roof in the normal manner...
    Really sorry nobody informed you about this... Not even at the MB

    I hope this will help coz i have same problem as we speak

      Yeah it will. There really is no other way I brought it to Mercedes they told me the same thing and we're going to charge me $500 and something dollars to cut a hole in the back of my license plate I suggest once you do that clean it up with a grinder and get some sort of rubber gasket some kind of way to just pop it open whenever you need it unfortunately this car has a lot of flaws in it from the interior to the paint everything seems to fall apart in the worst way. Good luck with that but trust me it is the only way unless you have a problem with just the lock and a Rocksmith can't open it for you but if your keys not working they can't do anything other than pick the lock so you can't go behind the seat you can't go anywhere there's no way together in other than this method.

    Why didnt youj take the back seat out and go through to use the emergency release ?

    • @creepycool286
      @creepycool286 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That's a great question. In most cars that would be the case but with this style of car it doesn't exist. I did move both seats forward and try to go through the speakers but all I found was metal.

    Can you describe what you did with the screwdriver - I couldnt quite see what piece you pushed up or twisted or what? I drilled a hole in mine and I tried to copy what you did but an hour and a later and no luck. Maybe I need to throw some prayers around like you lol...

    There's another way, if your roof still works! If you can get under the hood and open up the ECU, and connect pin 54 to the earth/ground you can pull back the roof button so that the trunk opens to the back. If the trunk is halfway you release the button ann then you can rotate the black rod and the trunk lock pops open. I found it through this link, that dude saved my life today! www.benzworld.org/threads/trunk-wont-open-another-solution.2928618/#post-16944930

      Thank you so much for posting that! My situation was pretty complex. I had lock issues. So I fixed the lock and it worked, but I forgot to put back the bar and I didn't pull down the divider so the roof could open. It's safe to say that the trunk became a tomb before this video. I do need to replace the 1999 MERCEDES BENZ SLK Slk230 OEM Trunk Latch Rear Lock Release Bar. If anyone knows where I can find one on the internet PLEASE send me a link. Thank you again for watching this video at least I know what I did wasn't in vain.

    I'm thinking the $525, three hours of labor, is not just to cut the hole, but to mainly to do a decent job of repairing the hole.

    • @ShawnyShine
      @ShawnyShine  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great ! The idea of this video is to show the viewer where to cut the hole. By the way, I cut the hole to the size of the rubber cover that I have for it. Thanks for watching.

    Have you tried pushing tbe little lach thats underneath pushing that forward and then trying the key ?
    My lach was stuck in the locked position all I had to do was push it forward then use the key

  • @adotintheshark4848
    @adotintheshark4848 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You've got to be kidding me. Why not just saw the whole trunk lid off? You'll have the Mercedes version of an El Camino! And now with the divider put back where it belongs, I'll bet the roof works!
