Here’s a transmission reset procedure I tried beforehand a few times but didn’t change anything. Reset the transmission: get in and close the door turn the key to II (ON) all lights on dash on (do NOT start the car) press and hold the gas pedal all the way down for 15 seconds while still holding the gas pedal... turn the key off but leave it in the ignition and release pedal. sit for at least 2 minutes and don't touch anything or open the door or you will have to start over. after at least 2 minutes... start the car and drive for a bit as you normally would.
Very well done thank you for posting this saved me tons of research in diagnostics and obviously installation. Any leads on where to get a replacement pedal Mercedes dealers charge way to much.
I have no throttle response when I lower the top down drives with no power with my foot flat to the floor ? But when I close the roof and drive off it goes like a rocket again ….. any thoughts or any can help 🙏🏻
@@Holtham01 not sure about that but you might check the interlock wiring that disables the roof from opening/closing when the car is traveling over 5mph. Mine won’t open unless the trans is in park. I’d also check the trunk switches that are activated when you close the little fabric cover to tell the car the trunk isn’t full and that it’s safe to open the top. You might try activating those switches without opening the top to see if it’s related.

Mine does not have the turn signals on the mirrors, but this car was imported from Germany so maybe it doesn’t follow the US model rules. The throttle is definitely electric.
The older R170 has better design in throttle sensor than yours. People didn’t need to pull out the whole thing like what you did. Besides, you didn’t slow us the prior problematic status, we have no idea how good the new one is.
It would have been better if I could have caught it not working on camera. The issue would come and go at random but seemed to be getting worse over time. To be clear though, this is not a “performance improvement” type repair. The throttle would just simply have super slow communication with the motor sometimes and the delay wasn’t predicable. After replacing the pedal, it’s been very consistent ever since and I’ve had no trouble with it.
Thanks so much for the excellent video. Can you comment on whether you've had the issue since - has it returned? My daughter's car (2006 SLK350) is having exactly the same symptoms. Her mechanic has recommended replacing the throttle body, but if I can do this quick swap for a couple hundred dollars first, I'd like to try that.
Its been fine ever since. Since its electronic throttle (drive by wire) I guess it could also be the throttle body, but it seems to be fairly common for the pedal to have the problem as well. Id give it a try.
Hi. Thank you for your video. My 1998 230k has the same problem bug only if i click the kickdown. Even if i just click without moving the pedal. Do you think i list change the pedal or just the kickdown button ? I don t know if the button is stuck on the pedal
The lockdown is on the pedal, but you might be able to change it separately, I haven’t checked. The new pedals were hard to come by last year but maybe that’s changed now that supply chains are almost back to normal.
I have 1999 got same issue , slow throttle, and I have a 2002 for parts, I took the pedal off of the 2002, and I figured that 1999 is different, it does not have the position sensor. Any idea to fix mine ?
Does it have a cable or is it electronic? If its got a cable, then that would point to your throttle body, but if its electric then theres a sensor on the pedal and a motor on throttle body.
Pretty easy swap if that’s really the problem. Mine started out only doing it sometimes and eventually got to a point where it wouldn’t accelerate at all unless the pedal was on the floor.
@@bdpgarage Yeah, it's the same symptom for me. I'm soon with the pedal to the floor :( But now I'm not afraid trying to solved this for myself, thanks to you! :)

Try rockauto.com that’s where I got mine.

Try searching “slk230 accelerator pedal”. I found one on Amazon that looks similar, might be the same. Dealer might be the only option at the moment.
The pin holding the pedal to the arm is disengaged to make it easier to access the nut. You need only engage those two once it's fastened down.
Nice, thanks for the tip!

Yep it’s a good idea. I’ve been doing more of that.
the gas pedal, throttle pedal is mechanical on the early R170 (the one that NOT have turn indicators in the door mirrors)

@@bdpgarage yes same as mine EU approved. Us one will have front and rear side end amber cruise lights and no rear fog lamp
The face lift one has indicators on door mirrors and different front fog lamp area and smaller constantly on supercharger
Is that electric pedal and electric carb throttle ? Or cable pedal and electric carb throttle?
@@kbrickell4732 it’s electric pedal and electric throttle. No cables.

@@bdpgarage Thanks!
Did you try a transmission reset before replacing this part? The transmission reset takes 2 minutes, costs nothing and resolved this problem for me.
Really? I tried some kind of reset process but I’ve forgot what it was exactly and it didn’t help. Got a link to the process?
as above, too tired tonight but it is worthwhile.

Got it online from rockauto.com and it was about $160.
Ok, thank you 🙏🏽
