Hi guys!! How are you going? I hope all of you stay safe and healthy. I'm happy my channel can help you remember the beauty of classic rock music in the past. I have received a lot of requests from all of you, so I have to choose which song first. But don't worry, it's just a matter of time before I could do your request. Luv u all!! 💗💗
Yr the best and most sweetest young woman doing reactions. Best of success on yr channel This is 🔥🔥🔥🔥 the first time I heard it in 1970 I loved it and knew it would be a big hit. Burton is one of the greatest singers ever!!!
The Guess Who's "Live at the Paramount" is one of the most amazing live albums EVER to have been produced. Albert Flasher, New Mother Nature, Glace Bay Blues, Running Back to Saskatoon, Pain Train, American Woman and Trucking Off Across the Sky ... every tune on this album is stunning, and is performed with great energy, intensity, skill and fun! Astounding record!
I agree about how jamming this live album was. Unfortunately, they couldn't play the version of American Woman on the radio as it was a little too vulgar for the FCC.
ELOK HSU🎼🎼🎼 will help keep Rock N Roll alive. One of the Greatest and most underrated Rock N Roll Groups ever. Easily one of my all time Favorites🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼Damn Long Haired Hippys 👶
Hi Elok, I live a stones throw from lead guitarist Randy Bachman. During a local performance on Vancouver Island, BC Canada, he told the story of how 'American Women' song was created on stage. American Women refers to America's Statue of Liberty. The band booked a gig in the USA under a work visa and were almost forced to join America's Vietnam War. They quickly returned across our Canadian border, found another gig where lead guitarist Randy (BTO fame) broke a string. While re-tuning his guitar he discovered this songs killer riff. In order not to forget the guitar riff he asked lead singer Burton to sing some words to it. Burton still freak out about almost being drafted into America's Vietnam War, he began singing the lyric "American Women Stay Away From Me". Note: Randy Bachman's last band BTO (Bachman, Turner Overdrive), I think has many great pure late 70's rock songs you'd like.
Hey, my hometown boys! ❤ I used to see these guys playing at Community Club dances when I was 13 in 1967. Yes, along with Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin and Paul Rogers of Bad Company I think Burton Cummings has one of the best voices in rock. Check out No Sugar Tonight, Albert Flasher and Undun by them. Cheers from Winnipeg, Canada 🇨🇦✌
Debbie I read that Randy Bachman stated reason for this song is that they were in USA touring when Vietnam War was still raging. Members were still in their 20's He stated US tried to draft them for the war. You probably knew that info. But Burton had a different take on the song mainly American Women stated women are more dangerous that Canadian Women. I guess each member have a different take on this song.
Just a bit of trivia for you: The Guess Who quite literally put their lives on the line for that concert (for which you already have the link). There was over 200k Watts of power running everything on that stage DURING A THUNDERSTORM. The possibility of electrocution was very real but as the audience did not leave, neither did the band.
@@SilverStar711 Try this: th-cam.com/video/oNYNYAj4588/w-d-xo.html To get rid of the bother of never knowing whether the concert was going to be taken down or not, I tracked down and bought the dvd. The disc also has some extra material that the upload doesn't have but that link should lead to the complete concert. Enjoy once again!!
If you really want you socks blown off there is a 14 minute live full versionversion of this song, with Randy Bachman playing lead guitar, Burton Cummings singing and Fred Truner from BTO on drums and I believe several other original Guess Who members in 2004 in Winnipeg. Believe me they have lost nothing over the years. The story behind this song is this was a spontaneous jam they were doing on stage, They noticed that a kid in the audience was recording the show. After the show the got the tape from him, the rest is history.
Great, fun band with lots of good songs and a lot of variety in their songs. hopefully you will continue your journey with them eventually. I know you have a lot of requests. . Some other good ones are “no sugar tonight/new mother nature“, “Undun”; “No time“; “going back to Saskatoon“; “Albert flasher“; “these eyes“.
Thank you, Elok Hsu, for reacting to a Canadian Band, and thank you Metal Madman too! You should one day listen to No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature! Another small piece of trivia about the band. You mentioned their 1965 hit "Shaking All Over". They recorded it under their original band name, but wanted the fans to guess who put out this song and made it a game - like guess who put out this tune. Next thing they knew it became a hit, but everyone thought it was from The Guess Who, so that is why they changed their name from Chad Allan and the Reflections to The Guess Who! They have plenty more great songs too, Elok! Stay safe, okay??
Yesss!!! TH-cam has now unblocked this video in New Zealand! I agree with you that Burton Cummings is highly underrated as a rock singer. Also, the main riff is killer. Krokus did a glam metal cover of this song in the 1980s, which was quite good: think of what it would've sounded like if Bon Scott had sung it. However, the less said about Lenny Kravitz's 1999 attempt the better! Thank you also for including me in the rollcall of the members of your musical family. (I just noticed that in the description.) I feel honoured to be included! Rock on! 🤘
Yea it was. Being Canadian & my parents from Winnipeg (their home town), this is definitely true - and the ‘woman’ is the Statue of Liberty, another American symbol.
I heard the song a million times (:. But this is the first time I actually saw the actual music video (:. I always loved this guy's voice (:. I often thought and many times confused them with Blue Oyster Cult (:. Another great band with great music that you should check out as well (:. But once you make the reaction great (:. Because you are GREATNESS PERIOD (:.
It's nice that you include some musical evaluation in your 'reaction video' and I am interested to "keep in touch" with your "musical education" see how it progresses. You mentioned that some people "don't like The Guess Who" which is just one way of saying "TGW have a distinctive style" which is very true. If you are interested I'd like you to investigate some more of The Guess Who (Burton Cummings in particular) and the Righteous Brothers (Bobby Hatfield in particular) and see if you can identify and define the difference between Warbling and Yodeling. This is both a challenge and an encouragement for your musical progression.
Great song, glad you did it. New band out of Michigan(U.S.) Greta Van Fleet just put out a new album. Heat Above or any song off the album is good. Thanks.
Elok! No joke today? Love your reactions!! You should do a reaction to Pink Floyd “On the Turning Away” You’ll love it. If you don’t “We are going to have a problem.” JK❤️😂
Try this. All but one song was recorded in a basement, mostly by one guy - Tom Scholz. He brought in a drummer for at least part of it, and brought in Brad Delp to sing. He did the rest of it. All but one song on the album were done in the basement by him. ALL got major radio airplay. This is one of the best albums of all time. This is the first song. th-cam.com/video/oR4uKcvQbGQ/w-d-xo.html
Here's a link to the entire "Running Back Thru Canada" concert: th-cam.com/video/oNYNYAj4588/w-d-xo.html (Minus any bonus material that may have been on the original dvd.) It's worth remembering that this classic The Guess Who lineup had not played together for 30 years before this tour. Enjoy!! 😎
Yes, it was a tape. The original lead guitarist was Randy Bachman (who co-wrote the song with Burton Cummings), and his guitar is what you hear on this recording, which I believe is the radio version of the song. But by this time Bachman had left the band, and the new lead guitarist was Kurt Winter, who is standing behind the bass player in this video. So Winter is "pretend playing" the tune that we're actually hearing Bachman play. It's kinda weird, but that was a transition period for The Guess Who.
Speaking of phenomenal voices have you heard Arthur Brown of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown? His big hit was Fire but his version of I Put a Spell on You is excellent!.
There you have it another awesome reaction to another classic band. Hopefully, this will get some views and likes but let's see what happens. The simplicity of those videos was just awful because it wasn't real it was choreographed and lip-synced in those days. still awesome songs I was looking for the extended version of American Woman but couldn't find it. Anyway, thank you for an awesome reaction, I am hopeful that soon we will watch some GFRR, UFO, MSG, Nazareth, Judas Priest, and so on your channel
I am actually surprised you liked this so much after all the great bands to which you have reacted. Huh oh. Are we going to fight? I'm would rather wrestle.
I'm sorry but you should have done your homework more, American Woman by the Guess Who went Number One on Billboard and Cash Box and around the world. In 1969 and 70 the Guess Who had the highest record sales in the world and out sold the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Doors, and CCR. The Guess Who were internationally famous and played and known and liked around the world, and still are and played.
It was their protest song again us in America. I wish you wouldn't bring up the frigging mask BS. I don't were one, I I hug and kiss everyone I see. Now that's love. Come on

Btw, Burton's voice IS perfect in large part because he has perfect pitch. He does not hit wrong notes.
The song is best heard in its full album version with its bluesy, acoustic intro that leads into the uptempo part here.
Cool!
Saw these guys with mountain and iron butterfly back in the 80's.

Anti-war / Anti-American protest song. They deny it now but the lyrics are obvious. You should check out Bachman Turner Overdrive.
