Congratulations Megan! You're the first of the Canadian/American 'reactors' to react to these 'Polish Cafe' sketches, in spite of my recommending a number of times to various reactors I follow and their requests for more Harry Enfield sketches. Harry captures the 'middle-aged' man being impressed/infatuated with the young Eastern European women working in the cafe so well - and dare I say resonates close to home. The mix of charm and bluntness of the women are beautifully portrayed here by Morwenna Banks, Alice Lowe and Sophie Wikleman.
I am? How strange! I thought more reactors would have reacted to this! I can see why you've recommended it! 😊
@@MeganRuth It's very poignant and well observed, and probably the only understated 'true-to-life' character Harry plays, in contrast to his other characters 🙏😊
... Good Show Old Bean 🏴 Good Show Indeed 4:11
@@MeganRuth Can you speak any languages other than English?
"In spite of"
"infatuation"
"You are the first"
You need to slow down a bit. You are coming across a bit heavy like a stalker.
you Really need to see his "i saw you coming". loads of them
Oh yes! Absolutely!
Agree. These are the best of all.
Utterly realistic experience in the Polski shops.
True. Still funny , though
To put this in context, in the Noughties many polish people came to the uk after Poland became part of the EU. The polish women were perhaps seen as exotic for some of the british men. Harry here plays a particularly hopelessly infatuated character.
Ah okay! That makes sense. Thanks! :)
They're also sought after for being more traditional & typically feminine than Westerners.
HE comedy is observational humour.Nuances of rudeness is one.Its subtle stuff.
Why is every Polish girl called either Magda or Kasia? I'm convinced it's a conspiracy.
Many years ago... An old friend of mine told me about the time he visited a Chinese Takeaway late one night... While he was on his way home from the pub... And after placing his order and paying for it in advance... He sat on a bench inside of the takeaway... And waited for his order to be ready... And while he was sat there minding his own business... He could hear the staff in the back speaking in Cantonese with one another... Lets just say that they were being quite unkind about some of the other customers that were in there... What they were totally unaware of... Is that my friend spoke several languages fluently... This was because of his job as an interpreter for foreign students at University... Languages he spoke fluently included... Cantonese... Mandarin... Japanese... And Korean... So when his order was finally ready... He calmly walked up to the counter... Grabbed his bagged up takeaway order... And speaking in fluent Cantonese... He gave them a piece of his mind... About their lack of respect towards some of the other customers... Before walking out of the door vowing never to return again... I would love to have been a fly on the wall to see the look on their shocked faces... Never assume you can't be understood when being unkind.
I love that story! Thanks for sharing 😊 And yes, I fully agree!
Hi Megan. One of the sketches from this is missing. There is one with Paul Whitehouse as a "wide boy" in the shop, and the plot is about a birthday card.
Oh no! What a shame. Thanks for letting me know!
@@MeganRuth My pleasure Megan. Anything to help. X
The harry and Paul series’, to me was the pinnacle of their careers.
If you like slightly surreal watch their sketch - the Confectioner
Megan, i am not sure how funny that was i along with harry was in a trance most of the time lol.
Thanks megan ❤loved it
This sketch is crazy that's what makes it hilarious
This Sketch is crazy that’s what makes it hilarious.
Are you English?
You sound like somebody who doesn’t have a grasp of meaning or language .
This is so bloody hilarious that this mate in this episode always comes inside there!😂Thanks for sharing Megan & have you ever been to the Harlequin Pub over in Angel London here? 🤔🍺
Thanks Falcom! No, I don't think I have!
0:35 The red head is Morwenna Banks eho was the first and only English cast member of Saturday Night Live. Before that she was in the Scottish sketch show Absolutely whoch is another sketch show you might want to check out.
Oh cool! I didn't know SNL had an English cast member. Thanks!
@@MeganRuthshe only lasted four episodes in season 20.
The two girls are both English. Great acting. The redhead girl is married to David Baddiel.
You may have mistyped, but Morwenna Banks, David Baddiel's wife, is the first redhead.
Don't forget the wonderful Alice Lowe - Horrible Histories, Darkplace etc
@@leec6707 Sightseers...brilliant!

Blimey! I’d also put myself through that humiliation to get a capuchin at that price.
When things become awkward in the cafeteria 😂
thanks Megan and do enjoy the rest of your Wednesday evening😀
Weren't you paying attention. It will rain lunchtime!
You're welcome! Same to you 😊
@@KenFullman don't think am not no.
…. or ‘I saw you coming’ or ‘American tourists’
Nice choice. For me, at first it seems to be about misinterpreting non-verbal signals but then none of the girls' behaviour makes much sense. But the confusion and awkwardness is relatable, funny and well-acted. You haven't done 'Peek-a-boo' yet (American tourists). Like these, there's a series of them - Harry at his best. Thanks again, Megan.
Ne’er seen this before. Absolutely brilliant. Thanks Megan
ne'er??
😊😊😊😊😊😊❤
That was great acting, the pronunciacion of Polish words was so-so but the effort was phenomenal, 85% understandable, sadly weird intonation (a bit Czech?). There is longer compilation somewhere I tried translate in comments once
Check out a show called “absolutely fabulous” if you haven’t already.
It’s a good one 👍
It is the height of ignorance to me. The very first thing I learn if nothing else, is Please and Thankyou in whichever language is spoken in the country i am visiting
Polish Big Suze 😍
"Hello Simon"........😮
Harry Enfield Tim nice but Dim posh dinner party .lol .
hi megan came back to watch you cringe at 9 mins15, so delightful
*Incomprehensible comment* Eurgh. Eurgh!
Hi Meg. I enjoyed the video.😊
I note your point about speaking in a language that is incomprehensible to someone else in the room.
English people sometimes complain if they enter a pub or shop in a Welsh speaking area, and the locals continue speaking in their first language of Welsh.
If you went into a shop in a French speaking area of Canada, how would you react if they carried on speaking French?
Isn't it a bit anglocentric to expect everyone to adjust to your language?
Just a thought..
Hi Lee! That's not what I meant at all. I meant that if the person who doesn't speak the language is purposefully left out of the conversation by the people speaking the other language, then it's disrespectful. The person doesn't even have to be English. It would be the same if I purposefully left a Spanish speaker out of the conversation while talking to my English speaking friend.
Wow, this dated! £1.60 for a cappuccino!!
Why I like living in my village, just English people and it's nice. If I ever have to leave and go into the nearest town it's just all rude immigrants and I wonder where has the country gone?
You know I’m an immigrant right?
@@MeganRuth Well I don't really count the Anglosphere as we were all brought up with the same culture and understandings. However the levels are just too high now, our culture is being erased and replaced. In just a couple generations British people will be a minority in their own country. All it took was since 1997 with tony Blair to destroy a nation to what it is today and the Tories betrayed it too. You'll hate it too soon enough as you came here for Britain, but you can always go back and us poor natives will be stuck with this mess. By 2050 Islam will be 25 percent of the population, that is the point that really worries me and I do not get why people aren't waking up to this fast enough.
@@SilverinWolvesScarletForestSno It's the Kalergi Plan (aka the Barcelona Agreement), and this was all arranged a long time ago by the powers that be. Honestly, it's pointless trying to wake up the masses to any of this, they automatically think you're 'racist' for not going along with the deliberate miscegenation of the Western world. Try as you might, you will never be able to reverse the brainwashing that has occurred in the minds of the middle class liberal left......Europe is doomed, the politicians have openly committed treason and are responsible for the cultural genocide of an entire continent.
Hi, I am also from an Eastern European country. Can you be more specific and say what the general similarities are between the women from an Eastern European countries and this sketch?😮
How many people from Eastern Europe do you know in general and have you already elaborated any statistics on this topic? Thx
