South Africa's ANC secretary-general questions western accountability in Iraq, Afghanistan

  • The secretary-general of South Africa’s African National Congress (ANC), Fikile Mbalula, has raised serious concerns about the double standards of western nations' policies, particularly regarding the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. His comments were made amid discussions of a possible visit by Russia's President Vladimir Putin, who is under investigation by the International Criminal Court for alleged war crimes.
Mbalula criticised the western countries for their role in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, stating that their actions resulted in the loss of over a million lives, yet accountability has been glaringly absent.
Despite the controversy surrounding Putin, Mbalula confirmed that the ANC would welcome the Russian president.

Putin is responsible for bombing schools, shopping malls and hospitals, the displacement of millions, and murder of hundreds of thousands. Sorry but last time I checked, and I could be wrong here but America wasn't abducting Iraq's native population and sending them back to America like how Russia is stealing Ukrainian children and giving them to Russian families.
America didn't preform mass bombing of civilian areas and residential complexes like how Russia target restaurants and apartments in Ukraine.
America didn't target civilian infrastructure like how Russia blew up Ukrainian energy infrastructure just before winter in the hopes of freezing them out.
America doesn't use phosperous shells while the Russians openly use them, and America didn't cause mass destruction by blowing up dams like the Russian's have done.
just some facts but what do I know I'm just from a country that's never invaded any other country.

🇺🇸 Educating about intentional war crimes (Russia).
The Soviet-Afghan conflict saw the Soviet Union clash with Afghans, resulting in Afghan casualties. The USA covertly aided Afghans with weapons, leading to their victory and contributing to the Soviet Union's downfall. In the Afghanistan war, the USA established democracy, but Russia's support for the Taliban undermined progress. In Iraq, the USA acted against claims of nuclear weapons, toppling the government. While some perceive USA drone actions as war crimes, they differ from deliberate acts like kidnappings, rape, or targeting civilians. Accidental civilian casualties from drone strikes are distinct from intentional atrocities by other parties.
The United States has acknowledged incidents in Iraq and Afghanistan that have raised concerns about potential war crimes. Some of these incidents include:
      1. Abu Ghraib Prison Abuse: In Iraq, the mistreatment and abuse of detainees at the Abu Ghraib prison by U.S. military personnel came to light. This involved physical abuse, sexual humiliation, and other forms of mistreatment, which were widely condemned as violations of international law and human rights.
      2. Civilian Casualties: There have been cases of civilian casualties caused by U.S. military actions in both Iraq and Afghanistan. These incidents have led to allegations of potential violations of the laws of war and rules of engagement.
      3. Airstrikes: There have been instances of U.S. airstrikes causing civilian casualties, including accidental targeting of non-combatants. While the U.S. military often strives to minimize civilian harm, such incidents have led to questions about adherence to the principle of proportionality.
      4. Torture and Detainee Treatment: Apart from Abu Ghraib, there have been allegations of torture and mistreatment of detainees held by the U.S. military and intelligence agencies in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
It’s important to note that the U.S. government and military have taken steps to address and investigate these incidents, including holding individuals accountable and implementing policy changes. However, there remains ongoing debate and criticism over whether these actions constitute war crimes or violations of international law. The interpretation of these incidents often varies based on perspectives and legal analysis.
There have been various allegations and accusations of war crimes committed by the Russian government under President Vladimir Putin’s leadership. Some of the notable incidents include:
      1. Conflict in Chechnya: During the Chechen wars in the 1990s and early 2000s, there were reports of widespread human rights abuses, including extrajudicial killings, torture, and enforced disappearances of civilians.
      2. Annexation of Crimea: Russia’s annexation of Crimea from Ukraine in 2014 was widely condemned by the international community. Many countries and organizations consider this annexation a violation of international law, as it involved the use of military force to seize a territory from a sovereign nation.
      3. Conflict in Eastern Ukraine: Russia has been accused of supporting separatist groups in eastern Ukraine and providing them with weapons and military assistance. This has resulted in a conflict that has led to civilian casualties and displacement of populations.
      4. Airstrikes in Syria: Russia has conducted airstrikes in Syria in support of the Assad regime. These airstrikes have been criticized for causing civilian casualties and targeting civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and schools.
      5. Poisonings and Assassinations: There have been allegations of Russian involvement in the poisoning and assassination of political opponents and journalists both within Russia and abroad. Notable cases include the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal in the UK and the killing of opposition leader Boris Nemtsov.
It’s important to note that these allegations have been the subject of international scrutiny, investigations, and debates. The Russian government often denies accusations of war crimes and human rights abuses, and the issue remains complex and contentious in the international arena.
