    Awesome Bro. This video really helped!

    So how does the timing light work ? You haven't shown how it displays proper timing, neither did you explain the principle of its operation. How does it get the reading ? from the connection or you aiming it at the crank pulley ?

    • @AcuraAdvice
      @AcuraAdvice  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It gets its reading from the spark plug lead, the point of the flashing light is to make your timing mark on the crank pulley appear stationary under the light. The frame rate of the camera is not able to show it on video. More expensive timing lights show engine RPM, allow you to adjust the timing of the light to your vehicle's spec, and some have other functions but I didn't get into that because its not necessary. You can set the timing as I did here without using those extra bells and whistles and this way people with cheap entry level timing lights that have no display can still follow along.

      Thank you. You could buy an expensive one and return it after one use ;)

      It's a video on how to set timing, not an entire history of the origin of the timing gun and every aspect of it. They're pretty simple devices.

    I replaced the distributor, worked fine. Took it for a test drive and it shut off and lost spark. Any ideas?

    Quick question, the oem distributor for me is sitting flush into the crank, the replacement almost has a flange for it to not seat the same way. Maybe I didn’t put it in correctly but with your replacement did you experience the same

    • @AcuraAdvice
      @AcuraAdvice  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I havent run into that issue but should definitly sit flush, either its not in all the way or wrong distributor maybe?

    sooooooooo i replaced the distributor in my 2000 crv and didn't for some god forsaken reason realize it could effect timing and beforehand had running issues due to the distributor, and then after replacement wouldn't start, has fuel as well as spark and now that i know the timing thing.... is it possible i threw it so far out of timing it'll cause my car to not start!?!?!

    • @AcuraAdvice
      @AcuraAdvice  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      could be! checking timing would be a good place to start if you weren't having starting issues before. Also make sure you have the plug wires hooked up in the correct orientation on the cap

    Did this clear the p0420 code? I just replaced distributor on Gen 1 crv and next day threw p0420 but scan at local parts store indicated bad cat or o2 sensor. I had a hunch it was related to new distributor but hadn’t heard that code referenced in distributor timing tuning work until this video. Did code clear once you fixed timing or did you also need to replace o2 sensor in addition? Thank you!

    • @AcuraAdvice
      @AcuraAdvice  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No this wont fix P0420, and usually a new o2 sensor wont fix it either. P0420 generally means bad cat, BUT there is a way you can get rid of the p0420 code for cheap without replacing the cat by installing the secondary o2 sensor into spacer to move it further out from that cat. I have a video on it, look for the video called "p0420 explained: what it means and how to fix" on my channel if you're interested

    Is a timing light required for this and the mark on the timing cover is different from the TDC mark?

    • @AcuraAdvice
      @AcuraAdvice  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do it by ear and get it pretty close if you have to, white mark is TDC and red mark is what ever the timing spec for the car is, see 4:34 and 4:40 16 degrees before TDC for Integra

    What happens if the timing is not correct? Can I change the distributor and drive to the mechanic shop to do the timing?
    It seemed you just move the distributor to get the correct timing. Can you adjust the timing by listening to see if there any misfiring? Thanks

    • @AcuraAdvice
      @AcuraAdvice  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, you really don't need a timing light assuming your car had no timing issues prior to replacing the distributor. You can get it close enough by ear. You can't install the dist 180 degrees out of phase because it won't fit in the cam that way, so you are forced to install it close enough to run, so basically nothing bad can happen you can totally do it yourself.

    • @sinnieleeonUtube
      @sinnieleeonUtube 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AcuraAdvice You made it looked easy. Just unscrew 3 screws out and just swap out the distributor. Nothing going to fall out that I can't put back in. Not sure what you meant by 180 degrees. It can go in only one way right because it's not symmetrical. My car won't start now BUT there were symptoms of distributor issue. I can't find a mobile mechanic in the neighborhood, so I'm tempted to do myself. BUT I'm novice when it comes to car. How did you unplug the electrical plugs of the distributor? thanks

    • @AcuraAdvice
      @AcuraAdvice  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sinnieleeonUtube thats all there is too it. The fact that its not symmetrical is why you can't install it 180 degrees off timing. There is only one plug for the distributor, its right behind it, and the 4 spark plug wires, just pull them off.

    • @sinnieleeonUtube
      @sinnieleeonUtube 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AcuraAdvice OK, I'm gaining a bit more knowledge by watching the other videos. So in your figure, there are three closely spaced marks with the red one in the middle and then the white TDC mark, a little farther apart. How do you know to pick the red mark to align with pointer and what are the other three marks represent ? Thanks

    • @AcuraAdvice
      @AcuraAdvice  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sinnieleeonUtube The white mark is top dead centre (TDC), the centre red mark is (-16) 16 degrees BEFORE TDC which is what the timing spec is for this car. The outside red marks represent +/- 2 degrees.

    • @AcuraAdvice

      I didn't have to take the panel off on mine, although the service manual says you do, so maybe sometimes its tucked behind the panel, either way its easy to access

    Would this be a reason for no start? My integra would stall but now it won’t even start

      Possibly, even just a bad cap and rotor could cause it not to start.
