I used to wear my Sub daily, after buying it new back in 1998 (16613, "Sultan"). The last maintenance/cleaning set me back ~$1100. I still wear it, occassionally. My favorite daily driver: Seestern S435. This is purportedly a homage to the Glashutte SeaQ, which is a homage to the GUB diver from the early 1970's, which was a nock-off of the French vintage diver "Le Forban Securite Mer". In any event...the fit/finish, high beat Seagull movement (ST2130), double domed sapphire crystal, nicely lumed ceramic bezel, sunburst blue dial, nicely lumed / applied indices, screw down signed crown, SS316L case/bracelet, machined micro adj bracelet. For under $200...and incredible value imho. I really like my S435.
@@whereRbearsTeeth there’s no comparison to the real thing and these knock offs no matter how well polished or finished in the end are just a decent Seiko (ish) $200 watch.
@@whereRbearsTeeth I have a GS and, while not a Rolex, is premium/costly, to me anyway. A second a day per month for last 6 months fast. But I wear a SM too. I enjoy cheap and higher dollar watches.
I think SM knocked this one out of the park. Perfect dimensions, typically outstanding finishing and the featureset that almost everyone has been asking for. This is what happens when a watch company listens to its customers. I'm not in the market for a subbie homage, but if I were, this would be the obvious choice. Especially at a $211 price.
I have this watch with the sword hands. I was originally going to buy it without the date but San Martin emailed me about the introduction of the date version and I ordered it. As you say in your review no one will mistake its inspiration but sword hands and no cyclops give it an individuality which I love. I think it is a stunning example of San Martin’s quality - I can’t fault it. Thank you for your excellent reviews - keep up the good work!
I love how everyone seems to be comparing this San Martin to the Rolex Sub…..when clearly it’s the Sea Dweller it’s inspired by. 40mm case, date but no bubble? That’s clearly inspired by the Sea Dweller 4000. And the blue fade dial? Clearly taking a cue from the Rolex Sea Dweller Deepsea! 🤔🤷😂
I think this is the best of homage watches. When a brand that takes the best of different generations of a watch into one model, this really is paying homage.
Owned a prior version and ended up giving it to a friend. It was excellent in all regards. I just didn’t like how the maxi case looked on wrist. This versions is a nice improvement.
Fortunately I bought one when they first came out. If they really have discontinued the watch that's really ashame. I think it's the best watch SM ever made.
I swear this watch is ticking every box I have. I’m a pretty simple person and my collection is not very large, but this would really look good on my arm thank you for showing it to me.
Hi, how sharp are the underside edge of the bracelet. I have/had a few SM but their oyster bracelets are just uncomfortable to wear for a long time. Is this the same?
Comprei 1 pague 2 kkkkk mas pelo preço ainda acho que compensa, você compraria um orient kamasu por aqui por 2.5k que perderia em todos os aspectos para o san martin, a não ser a "originalidade" de um homage certificado
I really like this watch. That it has no Cyclops is a big bonus, as I always think they spoil a watch, much like how a big pimple spoils a beautiful face. It’s going in my basket now. By the way, great review as usual.
Nice watch. Good review. Hi, hope you are well? One thing I would like to see on some of the Submariner ‘Homages’, is the makers name around the rehaught, like Rolex did with their newer models. Perhaps suggest it to them. Would make a nice change, as I don’t think anyone else apart from Rolex does it… yet.😉 All the best 👍🏾🇬🇧
@Soggz7785 Interesting suggestion 🙂 Actually Sugess and Cadisen have been doing it for a while now. Here are my reviews of such watches from each of these brands: th-cam.com/video/LfYyr62i0Fc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Oc_GlwifI5rP7SQ3 and th-cam.com/video/BOW2-n850Y4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=maUw80E-dLsGFgM9.
Great review. Great watch. Really something to consider it you're looking for a Sub-homage. Better choice than others. Maybe an upgraded movement choice and I'll pull the trigger on this one👍
Thank you for the video, I think I'll be buying the gradient dial sword hands style while it's still on sale. Can I please ask if enough links can be removed to fit my scrawny 6.5 inch wrists? Thank you :)
@marcussmith2798 there are enough removable links for 6.5 inch wrist, and I think you should still get the full flexibility of the on-a-fly adjustment which has a range of approximately 1 link ~ 8mm.
I just love San Martin fit&finish. There is no doubt that they are the leader in Aliexpress Chinese watch brand. However, honestly speaking, I do not like the applied silver logo plate. Somehow, it does make the watch look cheap and just does not work aesthetically on the dial. I just hope that they can use their previous "stylized" letter logo (which they use for some models) or come up with a new logo which will blend in more with their watch's aesthetics. Thanks for the review.
Some one-to-one clone from god knows where can't compare (disregarding the calibre) to this level of detail, quality and finish for the price. Bravo. And I'm not even a sub fan !

@iron883cd I will come back to you with the measurements tomorrow - the watch is in the office. I would also recommend to reach out to SM on the listing where you purchased it and ask them for the bezel dimensions, or better still check if they can sell you a spare.
now make comparisons between san martin and rolex and how to make a comparison with rolex and tudor.. the level is so high that it is no longer just a cheaper alternative.. but a considered choice of construction quality 🤔🤔
I had the Sub no-date but sold it because of weight on my smaller wrist. I would love for SM it offer a titanium version. I can take a watch with the Ti finish for the reduction in weight.
Until San Martin makes half-links, if ever, I won't buy another San Martin on oyster bracelet. Even with the quick adjust clasp, I, like others, can't get a good fit. Some can; others can't.
We really need to stop giving "homage" (read; slightly tweaked rep) designs oxygen. San Martin is just starting to break ground with their original designs, don't start giving them the idea that people really want rebadged replicas again because you can be sure as shit they'll follow the money all the way back to their old ways.

Applied text logo instead of the hex logo and a capped seconds hand would finush it off nicely. I also think in this instance male endlinks look better

What is exactly the difference with the cheaper sn0017? More water resistant? It's the same case or has different measurements?
Can you please compare with the sn0017? Apart from the bracelet, clasp and cyclops, how is it better? Thanks
Also add in comparing the sn019! A comparison of all 3!

It's a Sea Dweller 116600 homage.
This watch is nearly perfect. San Martin should go one step further. The case back should be engraved with details of the watch and/or the SM logo.
