This comfirms my idea that the price for the little increment would be a pain in the a .. for me. Despite the fact i'd rather put 20k on a car than on a watch, I more and more think that the difference is more an ego satisfaction than a real thing. Thanks for the comparison.
@@Horologique by the way that's why i speek about my own and only perception. When you can easily spend 20k on a watch, you live in another world than mine and you'll see it your own and honorable way.
It is about energy. Buying a Rolex homage/clone (even from another major brand like a Tag Heuer Batman) and buying an original Rolex has a different energetic effect. I have done both.
@@followyourpassion8378 That's not energy, it's the bullshit flowing from your anus to your head to make it bigger. And the fact you would make such a bullshit statement just to flex about the fact that you have a Rolex and a Tag proves the point of the original comment. "I have done both", bitch please.
I often feel like I'm missing out on something by wearing homage watches and seeing the real thing, but after this video I don't feel so bad. Thank you for this comparison it really helps
Excellent comparison video. I'm amazed that the case and dial finishing on the SM can compete with the Rolex, just goes to show what an incredible achievement they have done for such a relatively budget watch. I would love to see SM doing their own designs as well as keeping up the excellent quality and bang for the buck value.
Good job on the comparison, it was done with respect for the viewers' watch knowledge and Rolex. I have a few San Martin and Cronos watches. I would recommend San Martin and Cronos watches over a lot of Swiss made watches in the $1000-$2000 range.
Thank you so much for noticing! Indeed as a proud owner and frequent wearer of both brands this video reflects how I feel about them. And as a rule every watch lover, from the people who have 20 dollar Casios to the people who have 100 000 Pateks deserve the same amount of respect 😁
Firstly, thank you for an interesting review - I've been waiting to see this comparison to be released since the time you announced it:) Secondly, I'm just speechless about how chinese watch industry improved in the last ~10 years. Moreover, even 5 years ago noone could even imagine that a $300 chinese watch can be on the same level in any aspect with prestigious swiss timepieces, such as rolex. So imo it is amazing that nowadays much more people may be able to purchase a high-quality watch without going bankrupt). And yes, respect to San Martin for the effort they put to make their watches.
As watch lovers, and possibly as watch collectors, we tend to become almost immune to the big numbers watches such as the Rolex demand. But if you step back and think about it like the average man in the street, £20,000 for any watch is simply madness - it's a watch, for f*ck sake! I simply wouldn't pay that much, no matter how wealthy I was. It's just silly.
Well, luxury means it's meant for rich people, we would hate to admit it, but most of the customers who buy rolexes aren't into watches all that much. And aren't on the wrist of most watch lovers. What's is funny, is that a rolex use to cost about a few weeks, or more like a month's pay when they originally came out; being somewhat attainable for the common man who wanted quality. Now they're not meant for rich kids and old men who hace a few dollars and remember a rolex was a pipe dream as a kid.
@@gilbertoflores7397 but the Submariner isn't a luxury watch... only a overpriced ones. The Glashütte Original SeaQ Panorama or a Fifty Fathoms Blancpain or even an Omega Seamaster, have better quality construction with better movements.
A good fair comparison 👍 . If the Rolex was available at list price, I would say it is fair value, but at $20,000 for a mass produced watch it is up against some hand finished watches from even more prestigious brands.
AS I have posted before I have the Rolex 114060, a San Martin (V2) and a Cronos. The SM has the NH35, the Cronos the PT5000. All three watches, in their respective price points, are what I expected. I don't wear any of them much - I have many (50+) watches. My work watches are all Chinese made or at least cased with the Seikos. My daily is a Date Just 36. When going from the Seiko watches or Chinese to the Rolex it is amazing the difference in quality and feel. This all begs the question - what will happen when the Chinese double or triple their craftsmanship to meet the increasing demand for quality? I hope all have a joyous and safe Holiday Season and find comfort with family and friends. Peace to all.
Well the super-clones that can fool even watch makers are like twice the price of a San Martin/ Cronos. So its not necessary ridiculous to imagine. The better question is if you want an exact copy of the watch, probably why San Martin and crono don't always try and get every detail right.
I have no Rolex, though I do have an Omega Speedmaster. I think aspiring to Omega levels is doable for the Chinese, but it will take more than technical brilliance to do so. An in house caliber is a must. COSC certified would do well for pedigree. The last thing is a big ask. Authorized dealers and a marketing arm that knows watch collectors well and doesn't play around with poorly translated literature and a clear brand identity instead of alphabet soup branding that just makes you shake your head. In short, they could do well to poach some talent from the Swiss.
@@kb9oak749 The PT 5000 has shown that it can be chronometer capable. Both Cronos and SM offer base level Swiss Movements in their watches. As for in-house movements, I look at Laco and their claim on 'Made in Germany' while using Japanese and Swiss movements. The point I am trying to make is that the Chinese might at some point move past what they are doing wrong. Similar to the Japanese in the 50's and sixties with cars and electronics.
Fun fact, I just bought Cronos l6005 with sw 200 and it gained 1 second in 2 weeks... interesting, crown down it has +3 sec, crown up - 4 sec... and dial up again +3 sec an beat error of 0.00 ms... somehow at daily wear it mixes up and you get perfectly accurate watch. It is more accurate than 2 Rolex and Omega seamaster that I have tested... my Steinhart ocean 1 39 with the same mowement got +3 sec per day and San Martin with NH 35 -2 sec per day. I guess I was lucky but it is amazing how 300 -600 euro watch can be more accurate than 6000 euro watch
That is outstanding, congratulations on your Cronos, certainly a lovely timepiece 👌. I had the chance to pit the previous version against the San Martin Water Ghost
@@Horologique I think I just got pretty lucky with my Cronos cause it is even better than my Steinhart. It has glide lock that works like a charm, beze aligins perfectly, lume is the same level as Rolex what ever guys from Rolex say. Bezel action feels amazing... only thin I dont like is gripp on the bezzel is not as god as it should be but resistance is perfect so overal it is great
I have the Cronos with the PT5000 movement, and mine remains pretty well bang on accurate when I wear it. Size specs are spit on with Rolex. I love the thing.
@@not-a-raccoon It really is a great watch but however I decided to sell it after one month... that case just look to big for the bezel and I just coule not get over it. It is not the same as Rolex amd the other homages git that thing right... specially the part where the crown is... bezel shold poop out just a little bit more and have deeper scalops. I know it is not a huge deal but I just could not look at it
I've got the San Martin v3 ghost" black dial "with NH35a movement and I've also got the steel dive Kermit black dial and green bezel with NH35 movement and they both look very eye-catching on the wrist and so far there both running amazing and I've had no problems.✌️🧐🇬🇧
The SN017 is the version to own, cheaper, better proportions and just amazing value! I haven't had the chance to check the Steeldive but I'm glad you are happy with them both 😁
My first experience with the SM version I was surprised by how big the watch wore. Expecting the same from the Rolex, I was surprised when I tried one on and found the dimensions to be manageable. Those few precious millimeters make all the difference in wearability and it’s a shame SM didn’t nail that oh so important dimension.
@@Horologique You know what was the solution to my ideal homage watch? I got a Ginault Ocean Rover 2. Wonderful watch, although not in the same price bracket as a San Martin and certainly a niche choice, but it is absolutely stunning.
I have the San Martin homage to the Grand Seiko diver and the quality and finish is staggering, especially the bracelet. Mine has the pt5000 and is running +3 seconds a day. Let's face it, its not that difficult to get close to Rolex finish, but if you're going after GS you need to up your game...
I am not hearing enough of the differences to justify buying a Rolex. San Martin could take extra time and create an even more competitive version, and not break $1,000. That would include upgrading the level of performance and finish of the movement. PT5000 has achieved COSC, and they can use that top model. Hands and Bezel are not a problem, either.
They could, but I was disappointed buly this SN019, so much so that I contemplating pitting the Rolex against the much better SN017. San Martin have made much better built and better value watches
@@Ghidorah96 totally, the very competent 1661 that I have praised before: th-cam.com/video/054w_i6Fh34/w-d-xo.html But in terms of finishing it's just not on par
This just proves how silly you are to pay $20K for a Rolex or any watch. The fact that San Martin gets so close is proof in point. The point also about the movement to me is no issue, who cares if you need to wind the watch every day compared to every 2 days, big deal. Any watch can be regulated generally to within 5-10 seconds a day if you put the work in & anyway who cares as long as it is not running 30 seconds a day out. NH35’s PT5000 & Selita’s are all cheap & easily replaced. The beauty of a cheap watch is you don’t care if it gets scratched, broken, stolen etc, it’s what a watch should be a timepiece not a investment or status symbol.
Right!? Steeldive and San Martin just prove, decisively, that the "heritage" brands are & have been taking ppl to the cleaners for decades. They're just taking advantage of ppl's insecurities, and could make and sell the same product at a fraction of the cost reaching a far larger market share if they wanted to. Instead, they keep the price high to keep up the image of exclusivity. Whatever, I'd rather put a down payment on a house than wear a 👑 on my wrist.
Many people think that way. And as some said, for someone 20k is same as 20 bucks. Some have this as a hobby or investment. If you look how price vent up.. thats a good investment, even if You using it every day.
@@sankman87 I'm into shoes & watches, and to collectors I say: Buy the shoes & watches YOU LIKE, not what hypebeasts geek out over. Just as importantly, WEAR WHAT YOU BUY. That's the point. Don't approach it as an investment, that sucks the joy out of the hobby. That's what a collection is - a hobby. If you wanna invest, buy & trade stocks. If you're so insecure that you have to prove your worth with an object, buy a sweet car. Stuff you wear should not be your investment, it's just gear. And you shouldn't have to be told what gear you like that should come naturally. Just one collector's opinion.
Its mad that the Rolex doesn't smash the SM in every category given the price disparity. Just imagine if SM end up doing a $1000 version instead of a $300- just how close would that be?
just got my SN019, unbelievable. The quality is amazing, the bezel is tight, no wobble like yours had. The sound of the bezel when you turn it is just beautiful. I'll save my money for more Apple stock.
I'm glad! Finishing is absolutely stunning, almost on par with Rolex as you saw from the macros. And I'm really glad they fixed the bezel wobble which even the Rolex has 😡 Keep in enjoying this beautiful timepiece
San Martin is step by step improving their watches, you can see here in this video that the differences between the 2 watches are minimal if you don't incluse the movement, let's not forget that SM cost hondreds and Rolex thousends of euros, this shows that althought Rolex is a good watch the price is absurd.I believe that after the hype is gone the Rolex prices will be reduce considerable. I am not a fan of Rolex design/watches to be honest I don't understand the whole craziness around this brand ,I believe to be a taste thing, each is one.Kuddos for San Martin,I am not a watch snob so for me it doen't matter were the watch is mad only how good he is made.Great review,I really enjoyed this video.
Thank you very much for your kind words my friend! Indeed if you show both watches to à non watch lover they are going to be scratching their heads when you tell them the price difference 😂
San Martin provides exactly what I am looking for $200-300. If they have to increase price to bridge the gap I wouldn't buy them. They should do the best that they can but stick with the lower prices because majority of people that buy them do it because they can scratch the itch for many watches instead of spending $20,000 on grey market Rolex.
Totally and they have recently backed themselves into a corner increasing prices... And against $200 the SN017 or vintage Sub homage were the sweet spot 👌
The San Martin offering is so strong.... you do gotta somewhat question what the actual pragmatic value of the real deal is.... still gonna get one though. Someday lol. Great review.
Great Vid. I bought the original Kermit when it was the 50th Anniversary model...Honestly, SM does such a great job in all aspects, that for the price...they really do give you a great product. And with a SM, if I am in the ocean or pool, or I lose the watch for some reason...it is not such a blow as losing the Rolo. At the end of the day it is all about what you like on your wrist...SM does a great job offering many styles at high quality for a good price...thanks for the vid.
The interesting question is whether San Martin could significantly close that gap with small production runs and tight QC for around $2-3000? Still a fraction of the Rolex?
Well technically the "super-clones" are like 500ish, so I'm sure that a 500-600 dollar San Martin would nail it, I know we like to hold swiss watches to some impossible standard, but when you hold one, it's just a nice watch, the difference isn't that much more noticeable, it's a hunk of steel. The cost comes in the name on the dial, especially rolex, they use to be tool watches, so they weren't ever really meant to be "pretty", maybe we forget that fact too easily. Rolex wasn't supposed to be "luxury" in design, as many other brands are more elegant and better finished.
Why do you need to close a gap. The fact is the San Martin is a fine watch that everyone except a pure snob can enjoy for relatively little money(affordable). People buy a Rolex or any luxury watch because it’s a status symbol & unfortunately an investment item
First many thanks for the great video! In my sn019-g are no visible dust particles. The build quality is absolutely outstanding and has nothing to do with the sn017-V3 from San Martin, which is much cheaper made! I also own an original Rolex Submariner 40mm from the year 2000. The build quality of the sn019-g is much better and it also looks and wear much better. The sn019-g is an absolutely dream homage of the actual 41mm Rolex Submariner! I would never buy a watch for 20.000 when I can get a dream twin with an also Swiss Made Sellita SW-200 dream built workhorse movement. The sn019-g is an absolute dream watch, if you hand over it to a Rolex owner he always will be very impressed and also be shocked about the the much to payed money! Please be clever and spend the extra money to something much more important! If you buy the sn019-g you are at the end of the watch tunnel, it is unbelievable great!
Truth is, all these $300-500 microbrands and Chinese watches are 90% the quality of these luxury brands. I wish people would just be more honest about it.
Hi Olivier! It's obviously always the same conclusion: is the San Martin comparable to the Rolex? Obviously not. But is the Rolex 60 times better than the San Martin? That's just as little true.
No Rolex not worth 60 times more ,unless you are flipping it, or plan to pass watch down your blood line. I keep my watches in a case and dust them every now and them . They all look new many will last many years to come as l only buy Automatic watches.
Honestly bit surprised at the printing on the Rolex to be fair and San Martin have done really well for what they are charging. Consider me very impressed by them - san martin that is.
I understand, I was too! Again, this is extreme macro so it's normal to see defects but other Rolexes that I have are better. And I guarantee that this is 100% authentic6ajd not even 1 year old
When I click the link in the video description, the price for the 42mm watch with SW200 is 500€. You have to add 20% VAT. That adds up to 600€ for this homage watch. I think for 300$ it would be fun, for 600€ not as much. I would double that and maybe buy a Sinn 556.
If you are in Europe we get showered, because first the price is about 10% more expensive and on tip of that you have to pay VAT. Anyway a better option is their 40mm Sub homage coming at 195 euros shipping from Spain: th-cam.com/video/8dWF2QVywmE/w-d-xo.html
Hi Ryan. TH-cam will erase any link that I put here directly but use the link in the description of the video below. Many thanks for your support 👍👍 th-cam.com/video/Yv9aFBI25mk/w-d-xo.html
Good video. So in terms of quality they both have pros and con, but that is just minor difference. The only thing we don’t know is how they compare in water resistance. The one thing that really standout is $20,000 vs $300. For $300 you got about 99.9% of what a Rolex is. So you’re paying $17,000 extra for what?
You're paying $19,700 extra, and you're paying for Rolex's massive marketing costs and not much else. Rolex are a marketing company that happen to make watches, whereas AP, JLC etc are watch makers that do a bit of marketing.
Great comparison! I think many of us, when purchasing a San Martin, do not expect absolute high-horology quality, but the product put out by SM is some of the best you can find for an everyday wear timepiece between $200-$400 USD. I get the feeling you described--close, but not quite there--with my sn-046g (the orange dial skx/marinemaster): a great watch, definitely better than the original in multiple aspects, but the unique bracelet it comes with is somewhat sharp and almost as heavy as the actual watch. Though the model is a semi-recent addition to their line-up, I think it will be consistency where we see the most change with San Martin in the near future.
Thank you so much and great analysis there! They do make wonderful timepieces for the price point, but this is not one of them. I contemplating pitting the Rolex against the SN017 which is much better in build quality and much cheaper but I retained this one because it's directly homaging the Starbucks.
I’m not much of a watch guy; my cousin is. The other day he showed me his Rolex Hulk , so I decided to check out the prices as I was planning to reward myself for a retirement gift 🎁. After seeing the price differences from 2 years ago, I decided to pass. What going on with Rolex reminds me of the time I wanted a Harley Davidson (1996). Back then you had to place your name on a list in conjunction with a $500.00 deposit and wait about 6 months. Guess what? Now Harley can’t give them away as the competition has surpass them in quality and reliability. I guess I’ll wait until the market returns back to earth. Still it’s a very nice watch. By the way I did get the Harley; but on my terms and a in and out transaction.
I respect San Martin because they sell very good quality watches, not worse than brands like Tissot, Titoni and other Mid-end swiss for good price. Their watches help reducing counterfeit market for sure.
I think it was this video that kept me from ordering the SM. What probably did it for me was the wrist-shot, showing the ridiculous overhang - on a wrist slightly larger than mine (~6.7 in/17cm). Some other reviews I found of the SN019 were of a slightly older variant with much less prominent end-links and a taper down to 16mm. And that one looked perfectly fine on a YTer with my wrist-size. Since I found different specs on different store-pages for the taper on the bracelet, I contacted SM and they very politely confirmed (via photos from their stock-room) that it now tapers from 21 to 18mm. They also measured the male end-links for me and how far they stick out - at which point I had to give up on the watch. Which really bothers me. I still think this is an excellent watch and no other SM Sub has the date/cyclops, 4Hz movement, glossy dial combo that I want . The Sugess seems to comes closest to what I want and it's nice and thin for a Chinese homage - but I'm not a fan of the font they use on the dial and of the name "Seaman". Plus consensus seems to be that SM have superior finish compared to Sugess and I'm really impressed with the level of finish on my SN0109 - so I'd like to stick with the brand. Oh well... guess I'm going to have to save up for the real thing.. ;)
I'm glad it was useful! If you have noticed, in this video I keep on referring to the SN017 which according to me is a much better watch and half as cheap: better rotation, finish is almost as good. If you want to check it out: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DBfjzCd
@@Horologique Thanks, but that one also now has a bracelet that only tapers to 18mm and has rather wide end-links. Plus it comes with an NH35 and I really want a 4Hz movement... :(
The San Martin watch is worth the $300 to $400 range price, but the Rolex having paint bleeding and no anti reflective coating and selling for $20000 or more is not worth the money. The Rolex is worth maybe $2000 to $3000 dollars at the most. All swiss made watches are way overpriced.
Is the 15,000 dollar Rolex really 62.5 times better than the 240 dollar San Martin? Does the additional 14,760 dollars plunked down for the Rolex buy you anything you really cannot do without? Could Rolex produce a watch for 240 dollars even remotely as good as the San Martin? Rhetorical questions. San Martin or Sea-Gull could probably produce a watch for 1,500 dollars that is in no significant respect inferior to the 15,000 dollar Rolex Submariner. I know how I would allocate my money.
Yes, good as the Rolex is, it's hard to see where the extra $10000-20000 gets you, doesn't it. It's even harder to see when you compare the $1200 Ginault to the real Rolex, or other brands like Squale, Davosa, and Steinhart, all of which use good swiss movements and very good production. As good as Rolex? Probably not, but WAY cheaper. If you want some good homages of the Sea Dweller/Deep Sea, try the OceanX brand. Their normal watches are pretty nice and their occasional Damascus versions are amazing.
Thank you so much! I wish I could but I don't have either. The Chronos wouldn't be too much trouble, but the 20k Sub would 😂. I did another one of these crazy comparisons with Rolex GMT Master 2 and the Pagani Homage in case you want to check that: th-cam.com/video/Gzx42QMPgWc/w-d-xo.html
@@Horologique Haha I get that. I recently got the Cronos l6005 submariner homage and I love it. Very interesting comparison Olivier. Just to make a comment, you compare a 300$ to a 9000$ Rolex… that is worth 20000€ on the grey market. Also i have noticed that the bezel shape is not the same, it seems thinner on the Rolex and make the SM more bulky to the eye.
Well obviously the Rolex is more accurate and the 904 has a slightly better luster I personally would rather own the San Martin. I'd be less worried about it. P.S. I got the new Sugess V4 Day Tona and MAN, compared next to the $50,000 version I'd take it everyday over the Rolex.
Greetings from Switzerland.II can not agree totally. I have both Rolex and San Martin.but I wear always the San Martin..the Rolex feels not so comfortable..the Rolex is disturbing me on the lower arm wrist. I dont know why, I had sharp edges on both!!. my uncle is a swiss watch maker and he polished them on both down. im so used to the San Martin that I dont feel it.8 gramms difference are not to feel
Hello from France Switzerland 🇫🇷 🇨🇭 😁Thank you very much for your feedback! On the wrist there's not much difference indeed, I felt the most difference in the build quality. San Martin is exceptional for the price but it doesn't come close to Rolex, which is absolutely normal. Where San Martin absolutely shines is in finishing, where it's almost on par with the Rolex (come at me Rolex fanboys ☺️)
I would like to have a Rolex however I work for a living I can’t afford it and if I could afford one I seriously doubt that I could afford to maintain it people say they’re a good investment Maybe for wealthy people they are but I read up on Rolex it’s not the kind of watch you put in a box and do nothing with you have to have them serviced lubed and cleaned you can usually spend $1000 tuning them up cleaning them up and have them adjusted their rich man’s toy
@@Horologique Amplitude barley acceptable for a movement of this caliber, and accuracy was good but I would expect more stability. I have a Hamilton with plain ETA 2824-2 that is about +1.4 in every position, and others that are more stable between positions than this Rolex. And of course I saw lots of older Rolexes that are rock solid in performance, this seems a bit iffy to be honest
Bonjour.
there's definitely a law of diminishing returns with watches. Is the Rolex worth 30 times more than the San Martin? Probably not. I'd rather put the 10k on some Apple stock. Fun fact, if you put 10k on Apple stock 25 years ago, it'd be worth around 12 MILLION dollars right now. The Rolex or 12 mil? I'll take the 12 million.
This SM is a total, blatant copy of a Rolex. Following that, its owners obviously long for the real deal, but almost always ridicules it. ROLEX has the history, the innovations, the craftsmanship, everything built in-house. And yes, the status. As SM obviously has the means and the technology, I would love to see original designs. Not "homages/copies" of the watches you despise, but all dream of😑
There are persistent rumors that the cases dials bracelets etc of the "Swiss made" timepieces come from China. Which explains why the Chinese have raised their game so much in recent years - they have been busy making components for the Swiss brands.
It's not a rumor, it's reality. I wouldn't say Rolex has parts made in China (but I couldn't be certain) but entry level Swiss Made certainly does. To be able to call a watch Swiss Made, 60% of the value of the watch has to be made in Switzerland and so does the movement. If you compare Swiss man hour costs with Chinese, you can see that this means that most of the watch can be made in China no problem, including dial, hands, bracelet, case, etc.
Kinda disappointing performance of the Rolex movement. I got ETA watches that are better than that. The amplitude is quite low, and the deviation of 5 sec maximum between positions is very good, but not THAT good. Like I said I have cheap ETA watches (Tissot, Hamilton) that are 2-4 seconds max between all positions.
San Martin makes great watches for money. If I was a wealthy guy I would not buy the San Martin. Since I am broke and will always be broke I might buy the San Martin. You cannot compare the 2 watches. If I had a real Rolex Sub on my wrist no one would believe it was real.
San Martin.....
The problem here is the overvalued rolexes watches that marketing has created over the past years and people have already believed, everyone thinks that Rolex is the reference when is not….
Nobody. Absolutly nobody cares about your rolex nowadays. Spending 20k on a watch that needs a microscope to justify its quality over a watch that is almost matching its quality at 200 usd, is not a smart decision.
@@Er-qn6jo no that's a different reference, actually older than this one and more affordable even (and better value according to me) : s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_AEHu1g
When at the start you say something like "comparing it to the real thing"... if something is not real it's "unreal" i.e. imaginary or a simulation - none of which apply to the San Martin. It is much better to refer to the Rolex as the homaged/original/cloned piece, and not "the real thing". I think we've been corrupted by decades of Coke advertising. Thanks for the comparison.
What's the point of these comparisons? San Martin if you gonna actually use the watch for its purpose, Rolex if you gonna show off or speculate on the market
How he prounces San Martin just makes it better than Rolex😂

It is about energy. Buying a Rolex homage/clone (even from another major brand like a Tag Heuer Batman) and buying an original Rolex has a different energetic effect. I have done both.
@@followyourpassion8378 That's not energy, it's the bullshit flowing from your anus to your head to make it bigger.

Thank you very much 👍👍. They make their own designs, more and more actually, I hope we see them taking that direction more and more in 2022
@@Horologique Oh great! Will check them out. Thanks for the reply.
Firstly, thank you for an interesting review - I've been waiting to see this comparison to be released since the time you announced it:)
Secondly, I'm just speechless about how chinese watch industry improved in the last ~10 years.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😁.
Totally, it's amazing that even on one or 2 aspects they can compete with Rolex, that is a prowess on itself!
Thank you! A really pertinent comment my friend 👍
@@Horologique u8
Thank you for posting, especially with that unique feedback that you have 👍. In the end it all boils down to that, getting what you expected 😁
I totally agree with you and I think it transpires in the video. Try the SN017 which was just a wonder to wear 😁
Totally, if San Martin are good at something it's the quality of the finish 👌
far out amigo
I am not hearing enough of the differences to justify buying a Rolex. San Martin could take extra time and create an even more competitive version, and not break $1,000. That would include upgrading the level of performance and finish of the movement. PT5000 has achieved COSC, and they can use that top model. Hands and Bezel are not a problem, either.
They could, but I was disappointed buly this SN019, so much so that I contemplating pitting the Rolex against the much better SN017. San Martin have made much better built and better value watches
@@Horologique I'd love to see that comparison. Also a comparison against a Cronos sub even if it's not exactly the same color

But in terms of finishing it's just not on par

San Martin is step by step improving their watches, you can see here in this video that the differences between the 2 watches are minimal if you don't incluse the movement, let's not forget that SM cost hondreds and Rolex thousends of euros, this shows that althought Rolex is a good watch the price is absurd.I believe that after the hype is gone the Rolex prices will be reduce considerable.

Thank you very much for your kind words🙏. It's good to have the insight from a person who has experienced both brands 👍
@@gilbertoflores7397 agree ..
I think they could, but not sure they will try.

Anyway a better option is their 40mm Sub homage coming at 195 euros shipping from Spain:

Rolex are a marketing company that happen to make watches, whereas AP, JLC etc are watch makers that do a bit of marketing.
great comparison

💯
I respect San Martin because they sell very good quality watches, not worse than brands like Tissot, Titoni and other Mid-end swiss for good price. Their watches help reducing counterfeit market for sure.
Thanks for the video are you sure the SN019G is 42mm since specifications say its 41mm with 48 lug to lug and 21mm lug with
You are welcome! Yep, that's what I measure. SM measures only across the case, not across the bezel

San Martin just needs to learn how to make the rehaut shallower. This is my biggest criticism of their Submariner homage watches.
Yeah I'm glad I put my money with the San Martin. People shouldn't spend that much money on something they can't drive😅.
💯
Love the honesty, that being said let's say San Martin wins with what they have done with there product at there price.
It's certainly not 62 times better. Significantly better though

Steinhart do a 39mm in the same colour scheme, would have loved to have seen a comparison with that as well
They do, I'd love to see that one! I did however a comparison of the Steinhart GMT and the Rolex GMT 2: th-cam.com/video/UOnra0C0wNQ/w-d-xo.html
I loved this video. Can you please compare the current Cronos l6005 with the Rolex submariner? Thanks!
I was stuck between the cronos and the San Martin but I went with the cronos due to the glidelock bracket and 40mm size. I would love to hear your review on the new cronos submariner now that they made some changes like adding glidelock, better finishing, 2.5x bezel, remove date frame, etc..
Good review! Only I wonder why do you pronounce "San Martin" as "french" when "san" is used only in Spanish and Italian (french is "saint")
Accent propre !
loving the macro shots
Thank you so much mate!
Totally you are right to point that out. I didn't specifically talk about that although I did say the watch was bigger and bulkier
Mille mercis 😁👍
Well obviously the Rolex is more accurate and the 904 has a slightly better luster I personally would rather own the San Martin. I'd be less worried about it.
P.S. I got the new Sugess V4 Day Tona and MAN, compared next to the $50,000 version I'd take it everyday over the Rolex.
I'm buying this model in a few months
I have 7 watch San Martin Relly perfect
Nice Review! However it's painful to listen the "San Martín" pronunciation.
Considering the disappointing movement performance, the play in the bezel, the print on the dial, are you sure this is a genuine Rolex ?
Absolutely certain, but the movement performance was excellent!

Dude, it's not too difficult to pronounce San Martin. No need to put french accent.
there's definitely a law of diminishing returns with watches.
Shawn makhtan is a great watch
$8700 dollars, NOT $87,000
Both are equally out of my reach 🤣
แต่ San Martin ของฉัน Very Good
Honestly, neither is a very attractive color combination
This SM is a total, blatant copy of a Rolex. Following that, its owners obviously long for the real deal, but almost always ridicules it. ROLEX has the history, the innovations, the craftsmanship, everything built in-house. And yes, the status.
As SM obviously has the means and the technology, I would love to see original designs. Not "homages/copies" of the watches you despise, but all dream of😑
sAN mARTIN BROKE the internet with this watch !
The cronos diver would have been a closer comparison with the dimensions
Kinda disappointing performance of the Rolex movement. I got ETA watches that are better than that. The amplitude is quite low, and the deviation of 5 sec maximum between positions is very good, but not THAT good. Like I said I have cheap ETA watches (Tissot, Hamilton) that are 2-4 seconds max between all positions.
I think the Steeldive 1953 Starbucks version is better than the san martin version
I'd love to see the comparision between Rolex and Pagani Design Kermit.
That swiggling bezel on Rolex has shocked me, I admit.
It shocked me as well 😢
Which is bigger ?
The San Martin is 42mm, I give the measures in the video 😊
If I am not wrong there is a new San Martin, isn't it?
Due today the page says the diameter is 40.5mm
Thank you so much.
@@Horologique
@@Er-qn6jo no that's a different reference, actually older than this one and more affordable even (and better value according to me) : s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_AEHu1g
When at the start you say something like "comparing it to the real thing"... if something is not real it's "unreal" i.e. imaginary or a simulation - none of which apply to the San Martin. It is much better to refer to the Rolex as the homaged/original/cloned piece, and not "the real thing". I think we've been corrupted by decades of Coke advertising. Thanks for the comparison.
What about that Son Marton... Lol
If this $10,000 watch doesn’t destroy the $300 watch in every category by a large factor it’s a fail in my eyes.
San Martong??? 😅😅😅
I've never heard anybody call that Rolex the Starbucks, it's always been Kermit/Cermit. I couldn't focus on the rest of the video after that.
What's the point of these comparisons? San Martin if you gonna actually use the watch for its purpose, Rolex if you gonna show off or speculate on the market
