Will. Thanks for doing this! For those of you who don't know, I am the daily driver, of this daily driver, and want to give some "real world" feedback on this vehicle. Sam and Seth did a great job building this for me. It's been to New Hampshire with a Uhaul trailer both ways once and multiple trips to PA and does really well on the highway. Always 19-20.5 mpg incl. in the WV mountains. However, this Power Driven Diesel CNC ported head puts this thing over the top. I see a noticeable difference throughout the rpm range driving this over the past week or so. Spools quicker and easier. EGTs have also dropped across the rpm range. This gave me a useable power increase I can feel. More power with less boost is always good! Just have to keep from getting a ticket now, because being an Excursion, you can cruise at 70 and not even feel it. Sam Kuntz Sr.
Anyway you could list the full build. Drivetrain, dash and gages etc. Not looking for the crazy details just what was used.. I have a 2000 excursion that I've been kicking around a 7.3 swap, 4bt or 6bt. This 4bt will do everything I want and then some

I put a '97 12v in place of the V 10 in an '02 Excursion years ago. I left it bone stock so as to save the stock Ford tranny. It wasn't the fastest thing on the road, but at 60 mph on 35s I'd get 22 mpg. That 4bt is an AWESOME powerplant! Nice job, fellas!
108 hp per cylinder. Times 4 cylinders. 434hp 4bt. 108 hp times 6 cylinders. Makes it 651 hp 6bt. Hypothetically. Just some perspective. Wow!! Awesome results.
I have a 4bt in a F150 with a similar 4bt setup, a self ported head, P pump, Hx 30 over Hx35 compound, the same Colt cam, Stage 2 injectors with 035 pump valves. I can see 50+ boost with only a small puff of smoke off the line. No smoke under load when its warm. I was shocked at the HP numbers produced by the Kuntz Bro Excersion. Good job guys!! I am also considering the ported head.....
I have been building my 4bt 1964 Dodge W300 power wagon with the VE pump hoping for 200+hp with the way I set it up. My son and I hope to have this truck done by the end of August we hope. Videos like these always inspire us to keep going😊
That’s awesome! I drive a UPS truck (the very long ones called “1300 step van”) with a Mercedes 4 cylinder Turbo Diesel (4.2 liter I believe) and I get 25mpg loaded with 15k lbs of packages in the city. 4bts are much more simple engines, than the Mercedes “O” series.
I have a 1963 Willy's Jeep Wagoneer that I'm thinking about converting to the 4bt. Have some body work to do on it first. Just got it home this past May. Been sitting at my parents house since I bought it in high school for $100 because the previous owner had broken a shifting fork. Dad and I fixed that and had it running.
I wish you all would have the camera outside or a picture in picture showing the exhaust during the dyno pulls so we could see what kind of difference it made.
Absolute Pressure in Utah is like 11.9 right? So at peak boost (54.4) that single was humming at a PR of 5.57. I’d be interested in how that setup behaves down at sea level.
Up here in Wisconsin we got a 4bt in a minirod pulling tractor with a single hx55 no intercooler or aftercooler but we are running water injection and we're sitting around 700hp
@@danrupprecht2836 limited pro stock diesel, they are garden tractors, 6k-12k rpm out of a 1105 kubota, the limited pro stocks are 200-400 hp and the limited pro stocks are 100-150hp, limited pro run 50 psi of boost and limited pro run 100psi+. all the classes are 3 cylinder

i allways wondered why the 4bt engines were so heavy.appearently cummins made sure the bottom end was bulletproof for industrial use longevity.am sure that engine would be loads of fun in a old ranger.could run 12's while getting 30 mpg.

Really loved the show. I really want to know how you dealt with the gasser computer mating, and the tranny shifting differences... That is my concern when thinking of swapping my 5.4L "T-crap" for a mostly stock 4bt.
we did not do the swap on this truck. what we would recommend is reaching out to diesel conversion specialist and asking what they do when doing this conversion.
What all do you want to know the prices for? Head? Turbo? The whole swap? PDD can really only help with the cost of the parts we installed here, you'd have to give the Kuntz boys a call if you're interested in details on the swap itself.
Hopefully these guys regeared the truck so they can have a cruise speed of 66-70mph at 1500-1600 rpms. That big mfr could probably see 30+ mpg if it was geared for it. They're probably producing 550-600 ft#'s at 1600 but their trans or differential gearing is working against them.
I’m still curious about the choice to do 4bt instead of a 5.9. Just because? That’s good enough, I suppose. Fuel mileage? I got 26 hand calculated in my 2003 Ram 2500, and that was going around 75 on the highway. Conditions were really good, but still, I always got good mpg in that truck, and everything was stock.
Mean while I get 14 to 17 on my 04.5 lol, granted that is the year they added the post injection and the egr camshaft so I run a lot hotter and run a good bit more fuel
@@codcade auto? Mine had the manual, so that helped quite a bit, as well. Either way, the later 5.9s could be tuned to get really good fuel mileage, but the 2003s were known to be the best in stock form in that regard from what I recall.
Anytime volume increases boost drops, but it’s still more flow. The numbers prove that. That’s why I don’t listen when people talk boost. What’s your volume, lol.
That is an impressive build. I've seen a couple Excursions with a 5.9L Cummins swap. I've always been curious how it would work with a 4BT as far as mileage and power. It looks very capable to me. Should be a great family cruising tow rig. Curious if they did anything to the transmission. Is that still the stock Ford automatic? Thank you for sharing.

Ya we put a dpc triple disc converter, transgo shift kit, performance rebuild kit and the us shift that controls it also increases pressure for better holding.

Throw a H2O methanol injection system on it. I run straight water in the summer, and my 7.3L and 6.0L Powerstroke are much happier when towing heavier. Your EGT's scare me...

I get the 4bt is good but I would have definitely done your swap over a 4bt. Just because of the cost to get less horsepower than you could a 12v.

It’s because they’re the same as a 5.9L 12 valve /6bt just missing two cylinders. So you’ve still got a rather heavy cast iron block

That torque number has me flabbergasted. Over 900 ft/lbs at 2,100 rpm. That sum bitch will tow whatever you want it to.

Probably an adapter with the Ford trans. Not sure what the part number is on them but those f250 and up trans are really solid.
Ford transmission that came in the excursion with a shift kit.
5r110 will take anything a 4bt can make. Pretty study transmission with the right tuning.
And still running grid heater and stock charge pipe 😂 theres more power everywhere. Throw some 5” exhaust on that thing and let it breathe
It's making good power and torque for their daily driver
4 inch exhaust will flow enough to make more power than you're ever going to get out of a 4bt

There is a 4cyl p pump as well. The ve pumps are more common. I'm pretty excited to build my p pump 4bt, after watching this

5x.013 pdd injectors with a maxed and balanced ppump from farrell diesel service max ccs is 620
