    This weekend I was once again in the Ogwen Valley where I stayed overnight in the van. The weather was so bad I seriously thought it was going to tip. Gale Force winds and torrential rain swept through the valley but that did not deter me, I live for this kind of stuff. My plan was to hike up to Glyder Fawr Summit via The Devils Kitchen then return via the summit of Y Garn. Although timid to start, the weather took a turn for the worst once I started Glyder Fawr, but it was all worth it. I met Alwyn, a 74 year old fell runner who was manning a post on top of Glyder Fawr Summit in the torrential rain and we had time to share a coffee and chat about what he was doing there. After leaving him at the top, I descended to wish the runners good luck as they past me on my ascent of Y Garn. These runners were on another level. The race was called Pedol Peris which is a gruelling 28km race around the Peris Horseshoe, I will link the route so you can see for yourself below! Anyway the whole day was really interesting, and the rainy, windy weather really added to the dynamic of hiking this route. Thanks again to Alwyn for being the fittest, most active 74 year old I am yet to meet, hopefully he got down safe! Im sure he did! It did mate its probably the best jacket I've bought, I mean I still got wet cos the rain was sideways, however it kept the wind out a treat, I wasn't cold at all and I only had a base layer and t-shirt on underneath.

    Cracking video here, mate! Can't get enough of these outdoor walking hikes especially in North Wales. I'll be there for a break next week so looking to redo Glyder Fawr. Last time I went there my North Face resolve jacket was ripped out my hands as I tried to put it on and it quickly blew away. It's still somewhere in Wales or, I hope, has got a new home. Keep up the great work!

    Afternoon Dave,
    Been watching all the videos and they have been giving me inspiration to take hiking back up and continue my journey through Snowdonia and what it has to offer rather than Snowdon itself..
    Finally conquered Snowdon via Lanberis path and will be doing the miners and Pyg track next.
    Also please can you tell me the best starting route to Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr.
    Thanking you.😀

    • @qualitymountainday
      @qualitymountainday  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, thanks for the message, I'm glad they've inspired you. Depending on your level of experience depends on how you conquer the Glyders,
      less experience then I'd head up devil's kitchen, up Glyder Fawr, then Glyder Fach, then either return the same way or head down the Miner's Path near llyn Caseg-Fraith if your looking to turn it into a circular hike
      More experience, I'd head up the North Ridge of Tryfan, onto Bristly Ridge, then across Glyder Fach, then Glyder Fawr, then down devil's kitchen.
      There are many ways, I'd just find the best for you and your level of experience really, hope this helps, or maybe head out with someone so your not solo and can support each other 👍

      and for answering my question in detail as it is great and in-depth information.

      Thank you once again.
      May see you up there one day😂

    Great video - I am hoping to do this route next week. It will be my first time in Snowdonia. Where did you park and is the route easy to follow / clearly marked? How long did this take for you? Can you share your route with me?

    • @qualitymountainday
      @qualitymountainday  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      brilliant you'll love it, what a great for a first trip to snowdonia. I hope the weather holds up for you. Parking can be free along the A5 (if you get there early enough) or there is a pay and display at Ogwen Cottage. The route is pretty clear, but I always recommend being prepared if your'e unsure of the way. I don't know your level of experience so its always hard to tell. If your unsure, go with somebody else or maybe with a group, or if your'e confident in the mountains then crack on solo! Its a nice mountain day, I cant say how long it'll take as we all hike/walk differently. I would aim to be out for 6-8 hours. You can make it a lot shorter however by only heading up to Ygarn and not Glydr Fawr (That'll save almost 1.5hrs) Have a great time, and thanks for the comment.

      You can park for free in the laybys on the A5 or pay and display in the car park near the cafe.
      The wall is immediately to your right after heading up the small amount of steps near the cafe. You go over a small ladder and your there. Enjoy the hike 👍
