Have fixed my Apple Watch Series 3. I had to change the region to Afghanistan then I did the reset 3 time then I paired it with my iPhone 6s Plus while connected to wi-fi , the update started again I reset the Watch the I tried to pair it with my iPhone SE 2nd iOS 16.4.1 although it took me 3hours to complete but it’s now working normally 🙏
After numerous attempts, I changed the language again to Portugese then Afghanistan as Country. I was able to update the apple watch. I had another stumbling block when the watch was stuck in signing in to icloud account for hours. I just chose skip and continue when the iphone was asking for me to update the watch again then restore from back up or set up as a new watch. I hope this helps.

It happened to me and i tried everything , but finally i found the solution and its simple you should connect both iphone and iwatch with Charger and reach above 50% and then try to update
I've fixed several watches with this problem. You need two phones. Phone 1 - forget all wifi networks. Connect to cell service. Turn on wifi hotspot. On phone 2 - forget all wifi networks. Do not connect to cell service (I used a phone with no service). Connect phone 2 to wifi hotspot from phone 1. Pair your apple watch to phone 2 and choose to update during pairing process and it will update properly. Once the update completes, it will still not be paired, but it will have the latest OS and you can pair it normally without two phones. I would make a video, but I don't have a watch with this problem at the moment. BTW... This works with older watches as well.

got this same issue with apple watch series 5 + iphone 13 mini. The workaround for me was: connect iphone 13 mini to 2.4Ghz wifi. avoid cellular 3G/4G/5G and wifi 5Ghz.
I just figured out how to update my watch after this video I borrowed an iPhone 6 with an update 12.2 when I login my Apple ID it requested I have to update it after the update it was 12.4 I tried again it didn’t work and requested update then I used my iPhone XS with 16.0 and it worked but it took 6-8 hr Thank you.. Just gotta hustle more had a series 3 and updated my iPhone and that’s when it went to hell, I’d say if you update to ios14 make sure you update your watch first before the phone!

I have been in the same situation and contacted apple support, they ask me to bring it to an apple service centre. The result was negative, the apple service confirmed that it has a hardware failure so you have to buy a new one. Ridiculous though...

I’m stuck in the activation phase so can’t even try pushing the update from the watch itself

Check a few of the other comments. Some people are having success using a VPN, changing their location, and using alternative wifi networks. Hopefully one of those will work for you!
Well you can set it up as a new watch on IOS13, under the "Update Now" option there's a "Skip the update and continue" option. However after you choose your wrist, it just stays in the "Connecting your Apple Watch. This may take a moment" message. I have left the watch overnight thinking that just needed some time to connect. Unfortunately didn't work :( Thx for the fix, now the hard part is finding an IOS11 device lol

Please someone help me !!!! Mine I sync the watch to the phone with the 6 didgit passcode. I type it in the watch goes to like a load screen and then nothing. The phone then loses connection and unpairs It just will not download the watch software. Try changing your watch location, from your current location to something like the US/Canada/Australia during the initial setup. Failing that, try using a new wifi network. Failing that, others have reported success using a VPN. Let us know how you go

Apple care have no advice to fix etc so I just got a new phone. Watch is now currently working on my new phone 😍 but as for the software issue I had I’m still stumped 🤔

So if I dont have a older iphone lying around then I'm out of luck. Apple is amazing company really. They sold me their little watch for hundreds of moneys and it doesnt even work. I had it working the first time when I got it for Christmas, but I could never update it because of the error. I wasnt using the watch at all for like 2-3 years and then today I decided to start the whole process again because I was tired of update notification popping up on my iphone screen while I was taking the freakin photos. Forget what this dude says.. put your watch on the charger and then chose the update.. I had this problem when I first got the watch way back in 2019.. I stopped using it a few months ago, and today decided to start using it again.. I was having trouble updating it, unpaired it ,paired it, couldn’t get it to do anything, got the infamous not connected to internet, and watching this video I remembered from when I first got the watch it did the same thing and apple said to connect it to the charger and leave it there while it updates.. it is fixed after 2 hours of trying every solution.. actually the update page at the very bottom also says to connect it to charger
