I agree with u. I have the HX90V. Took it recently on a week trip to Japan. Was able to take better pics than my Iphone 15 pro max especially when using zoom. This is an opinion review rather than subjective.
Depends what you are using it for. 30x optical zoom in something as small as this isnt to be scoffed. Yes there are larger 1" compact telephoto cameras out now but these top out ar 10-15x. That said 1/2.3" is a tiny sensor, but that's an unavoidable trade-off of packing as long a focal range as possible in a tiny form factor.
Actually this little Sony is still a really great travel camera if you can ever find one. The viewfinder, though small, is actually very clear and useful in bright conditions, and the pocketable size of this camera makes it a no brainer for travel photography shots where a long zoom is required. Long discontinued, these Sony cameras in good condition are very expensive second hand, with sellers asking almost twice what I paid for one new. PS: I would like mine back, thanks to the thief who stole it from me on a Trenitalia train from Naples to Venice last year.

I actually also bought this camera 2 years ago used for 170€, and I'm loving it, it has a very good zoom and the quality of the photos and videos is also good, better than my Samsung m52 and it is very compact and easy to transport. Your review is discouraging. But it's your opinion.
I would recommend getting a used HX20V / HX30V for 130. bucks and call it a day. Better grip and smoother ergonomics. Basically the same lens, just says G instead of Zeiss. The HX30V adds WiFi. Most of the 30V are made in JAPAN. check the bottom sticker. ツ
When you close the viewfinder it shuts down the camera. Read the manual. You can turn this feature off. Very poor review.
