That was magical. It's either some french teachers just don't know how to teach, or they are dull or they just just feel important when students get confused or.... or may be you are just smart. Anyway, thanks for making it simple.

Very helpful as always. I just love the way you simplify these tricky topics. Merci beaucoup.
But there is an EXCEPTION to these rules. The exception is in cases where QUI is acting as the OBJECT of the verb in the dependent clause. In such cases, QUI is NOT followed by the verb. In fact, a subject noun or pronoun will come between QUI and the verb. For example, Le président n’a pas dit QUI il nommerait à ce poste. (The president did not say who(m) he would
    appoint to this position.).
So, in a nutshell, (1) QUI, when acting as a SUBJECT of the dependent clause, is followed by a verb. (2) QUI, when acting as an OBJECT of the verb of the dependent clause, is followed by a subject noun or pronoun and then by the verb of the dependent clause.

Now I do. Thank you so much.

I thought this problem had been resolved, so I was testing it today in reading, and unfortunately the rule does not work, such as here, from Le comte de Monte-Cristo: 'le bruit que faisait la voiture', which I believe should be 'qui' according to the rule in this video. Or am I missing something?
