  • Hello! Today on Flat Tire Farm, we start a series on zero waste processing for lemons. We're going to find ways to use every bit of a case of organic lemons and have nothing to throw away. Today ZEST is the name of the game. we're going to make lemon pepper, lemon salt, lemon sugar and lemon extract.
Here are some Amazon links to the HOMESTEAD EQUIPMENT we used today:
    Regular mouth storage lids: amzn.to/3ITmHza
    Wide mouth storage lids: amzn.to/3iMlM9g
My “SPICE” Grinder, by Mr. Coffee, Ha!: amzn.to/39oziOR
My zester is a Pioneer Woman one, I might get a narrower one since my finger is currently healing from the zester"s wrath.

I know very well about the thorns now...I have 3 puncture wounds to prove it. You think I might have learned after the first one, but nope. Ha!😀

Great video! Learning so many new uses for things. We all have an ugly pan, they’re just well seasoned. Val 😊

Awesome ideas. I. LOVE. LEMON. PEPPER!! I don't like the store bought stuff because of the salt... just like you, I don't use much salt either. Looking forward to any & all other spice blends you come up with! Keep it comin' chickie... no rest for the weary (wicked?), right? 🤣

So many people think I have to buy that. It will be really hard to make.. for me I think how can I make it. If I make it I can make it healthier than what I get at the store!

@@FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska for me I think it can’t be that hard much of it was done by my great grandmother that had a second grade education and her mom before that and many of our ancestors did not know how to read. It has to be easier than we think.

@@Mindy56743 I think it takes us slowing down and trying to look at things from different perspectives of how we can solve a problem. To see how we can make something work with what we already have. To meet our needs with our current resources. Old time homesteaders kept anything usable and used what they had. "Just run to Walmart" was not an option. They had to look at the resources available and go from there. We try to emulate that best we can. I really appreciate your thoughts. 🙂

@ Mindy - and the cost! I'm forever trying to figure out how to save the $$. It's a two-fer for me - cheaper AND better for you! God bless🙏
