yeah, but the slim was definitely a nicer looking console. honestly i think my ps3 slim was the nicest looking console i ever had, i just loved the color and texture of the console, my white super slim definitely looks kinda generic in comparison.
Mine is also still perfectly working(aside from that one problem I had with the HDMI, which got easily fixed by holding the power button for 5 seconds). I'm doing a FF13 trilogy 100% run and I honestly never had any problem with it in my 10+ years of owning it.
Too be honest, I love the olden-day, retro-style grill of the Ultra Slim, and the manual, sliding disc cover is a welcome addition, as if it stuffs up, you can easily forcefully slide it open yourself. It saves space and you wouldnt have problems getting discs out like with the previous models if the optical drive stuffed up. The Ultra Slim is smaller, lighter, more compact, slightly faster and quieter then the previous models, so I dont believe its a step back, but a step forward. A PS3 is a PS3, they weren't going to change it with the Ultra Slim. It was always going to be a more refined version. Im happy with my US :)
I wouldn't say it's more quieter, it's certainly more quieter than the original fat PS3 but compared to the slim PS3, I feel like that's the only part the super slim takes a step back as its slightly more louder than the slim since the disc operates right on top of the system but other than that, I don't think the super slim is as bad as everyone says it is
Yea, im happy with it. Its half as big as the slim and like a quarter as big as the phat. Yea it is pretty loud at times, but I still think its just as if not quieter than the slim, as Ive heard the slim and ultra slim side by side many times.
@@valentinlopez7930 yeah, i'm surprised at how many people in the comments prefer the super slim. the ps3 slim is my favorite looking console ever. i loved the color and texture. the super slim looks and feels like cheap plastic.

I currently have the PS3 slim 120gb model. I bought it used August 2012 for $139. I've put it through it's paces since. Gameplay sessions of no more than 3hrs, but video streaming significantly longer. When buying a used system, don't plan on it lasting longer than 1yr. My PS3 is beginning to crap out, and I took care of it. Best advice would be buying the 500gb ss bundled w/GTA5 for $269. Sony plans on supporting PS3 for 3 more yrs. Lots of great games for budget prices, and GTA5 is stellar.
I have the Slim and WISH i had the 1st gen. backwards compatibility totally rocks and the risk of some of the motherboard solders melting and failing is worth the risk.
I like the PS3 Super Slim optical drive (0:56) because the laser optic lens are easier to clean unlike my older slim (not super slim) which I have to remove those screws to clean it voiding the warranty.
You also don't have to worry about dust or "anything else" coming in contact with the laser. The PlayStation 2, PlayStation One, and PlayStation 1 had a similar top-loading design. So it really makes me feel like I'm spiritually connected to with the past PlayStation's somehow. You don't need to worry about any dust or particles going inside and damaging the laser, if you take care of the console, and remember to close the disc slide every time you place in or remove a game disc.
i personally think the slim model is the best. I like the fact the laser is secure and protected. Everytime u slide open the new model u risk getting dust and everything else in there. Its a cheaper model. I would recommend the slim to anyone getting a new ps3. But theyre now getting harder to find
Thanks for not explaining detailed specs on how to remove the top shinny trims on front I just broke the tabs. Learn to get to the correct details rather the. Yip yapping what’s not important. Stay off media 🤦🏻😡👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼
for one these reviews saying sony took a step back is just annoying for all the people who think that the top loading mech is cheap, well it most likely is but sony just fixed a problem: there is no longer any motors or things that could cause the system to overheat more, now its just like the slim ps2, its not powered by motors that make the system use more power and make the super slim more power efficient, also the disk tray is more open and will cool down faster, this system is alot better
Many people complained about the original very first PS3 model too! Truth is it's hard to get accurate representation because the only time people speak out or voice their thoughts is usually when something goes wrong. If all is well, people usually don't say anything. Some bundles are amazing right now, God of War bundle for only 199.99, the Uncharted Bundle was only 167.99. I think you'll like it, plus you have the warranty from Sony as well.
Also there is a very decreased amount of dust getting in the inside (fan, heatsinks etc) since there are literally no vents where are gets sucked in; only blown out.
Actually on my PS3 Slim I bought a external 4 USB 3.0 port hub on the front on Amazon which only cost me $10 only it was worth it now I have 4 USB ports just in case😉👍
I don't see how the slide cover is really a step back, sure it may seem less luxurious and "cheap" but in the long run it will probably be more reliable than a slot loading drive. Less moving parts that can brake.
That's cool. Mine is coming in the mail tomorrow. I'm dreading the data transfer process though. That's one thing that was easier on the 360. But, it's gonna be nice to finally have a brand new PS3 up and running tomorrow night. I'd also recommend getting PS+ if you don't already. I'm pretty sure the bundle comes with a free month. It's easily the best value in console gaming. I know I have more games on my hdd than I got time to play. Anyway, enjoy your new purchase.
As someone who owns all 3 ps3 systems, I can tell you first hand that the ss is my favorite. The fat runs much hotter, takes up more space, is very loud and imo, very ugly. The slim is great, and loses all of the fats problems, but it is still larger, and slightly louder. The super slim is silent (with the exception of the nosier dd), it runs cooler than any other console I have owned this gen, it top loader is sturdy, and easier to use/ harder to break and is a sleek beautiful console.
I bought one at Christmas to replace my broken "fat" PS3. I like it, many "fans" see it as a waste of time, but most of the "fans" are PS3 players, and already own a PlayStation 3. So the question that comes to mind is "I already own a PS3, why would I want another one?". It's a good model.
I actually DO need the 500gb Hard Drive. The 1 Year of Free PS+ that came with my Super Slim gave me a ton of free games out of the box, and a bunch more games (and countless Discounts on games) since!
the Slims and Fat have both exactly the same internalz in them the only thing thatz different is that the FAT models: A B, C & E had NAND chips in them instead of the NOR ;)
I have yet to encounter a disc being stuck. Perhaps if you generally push lumps shit into the slot on a daily basis, it will probably stick and even then you'll have to spend some time cleaning it or take it to the repair shop were they will look at you in disgust. The only reason Sony have went back to tray is to save a few pennies now the ps4 is around the corner!
Power button more than likely ...im having this problem now and i cant fix it....at first i toor the ps logo thing off and used a pin to tirn it on but now i cant even do that
psa for everyone, the screws under that side panel require a TR8 Torx Security Screwdriver. i know this because it wasnt clarified at all and i dont have one because thats a REALLY tiny and single use screwdriver. great.
there is no performance issues with 2 RAM chips, because of same quantity connecting lines. Only doubled HEAT from 4 chips with more thick tech process. And a doubled price for 4 chips of course.

Another thing... I'm buying a 500gb ss GTA5 bundle for $269. It's an amazing value. Consider the fact that upgrading a slim to 500gb would cost around $80. Then add another $60 for GTA5, a game that is a must own. Now, I did see a 40gb fat refurb at Gamestop for $129 (online only). But, you will probably want a lot more hdd space. So, doing the math, the ss bundle is going to be your best bet in more ways than one. I guess I don't want to see anyone else have bad luck with a used system. Buy new
Thank you, I needed a good breakdown video for this console to clean up a unit that belongs to my sister. She is a smoker and it is taking a lot to get this crap out.
If you look back at my comment, "my broken "fat" PS3". My PS3 broke because the automated disc loader broke, the disc wouldn't spin, so it couldn't be read. I disassembled it a dozen times in an attempt not to shell out cash for a new one, but I did anyway. The PS3 disc drive is the exact reason that cost me money. So, now with my Super slim model, it can't happen again. This is also not a cheap model, just cheaper to manufacture. I paid 269.99 for it new, it's more expensive than the slim.
These slims are hard to open. Nothing is pop off. The sides come off first (slide) and then the front and back come off (slide). If you try to pop them off you will break the teeth that keep it locked in place. I own a slim and tried to open it blow the dust out so it wouldn't over heat and to see if I can stop the fan from being so loud. After concluding that I shouldn't open it and put what I took off back on. I just vacummed and blew the vents all around and it sounds like new. Also a screw driver isn't the only tool for the job. It needs special hex with grove in the center. Dont recommend opening!

The original one its nice and shiny, but hell big. I also dont think the sliding cover its a step back. If it helps to get rid of few inches, why not...
I don't think so. It's the most energy efficient model yet and the CPU/GPU have really been made much more efficient than the older models. This helps them make more money also. Just keep things off it and give a little space around the system.
All PS3's have identical features, gameplay wise. The fat does have 2 extra USB slots. And the very first batch was backwards compatible with PS2. However, newer versions have more hdd space, which is VERY useful. As far as your question about buying a PS3. I'd say yes. There is a huge library of great games and Sony said they will still support PS3 for 3 more yrs. When a new system comes out, games get cheaper on the previous one. Unless there's something you must have on PS4, go with a PS3.
You should have added interior screws are not a screwdriver ,they are a special torx unsure of size as of yet . So I would not start breaking into it without that torx .
the super slim may not be the best looking but things shouldn't be about looks because i used to have the regular ps3 and the chip was shit, but i have now a super slim and i'm happy because it's lighter,it's less noise and it doesn't heat too quick
Don't use this as a tear down tutorial. He misses very important steps, you WILL break tabs off your covers if you don't know how to properly remove them.
already did. pretty sure my ps3 is shot anyhow though. my cat knocked it over last night and now when i turn it on it gets really loud and shuts down after 10 or so seconds. i'm assuming the fan came loss or disconnected so it's immediately overheating. since i have quite a few ps3 games i still like to play, i'm hoping i'll be able to fix it but i'm not that optimistic about it.
I have a PS3 slim but I'm still gonna get one in the summer because it's a 500gb which is a lot for a current gen console and not so much for a ps4 tbh and it's smaller so it's gonna be alongside my monitor for my set up.
Actually the PS3 Slim supports up to 500 gigs because I had the 250 gig model then I upgraded the hard drive with a 500 gig hard drive and it worked flawlessly never had an issue for the past 11 years and as for the original PS4 it supports up to 2 terabytes internally but externally you can have as much space as you want there's no limit 😉👍
i find the sliding tray better cause i can remove my cd's without the console on

Sorry to be a grammar nazi, but here I go:
PS3 slim < PS3 super slim*

Ps3 Slim is a million times better than the crappy Ps3 super slim.
Coolguy Forever explain pls and don’t say the sound
I looked up this video just to find out how to remove the hard drive cover and it didn’t even explain that>:(
Nice video thank you.
I’m just watching this. The PlayStation 4 has been out for 9 years already. From this comment post. 😁
I don't think so.
It's the most energy efficient model yet and the CPU/GPU have really been made much more efficient than the older models.
This helps them make more money also.
Just keep things off it and give a little space around the system.
Hi if dont have a harddrive unscrower how do i unscrow the side scrooz and where do i get one then
All PS3's have identical features, gameplay wise.
Unless there's something you must have on PS4, go with a PS3.
who is watching in 2018
You should have added interior screws are not a screwdriver ,they are a special torx unsure of size as of yet .
So I would not start breaking into it without that torx .
I'm late to the show but what size is the 3 star screws on the side of Hard drive and the 2 on top of the disc drive? Didn't see him remove those.
I think the first version looks so much better
this really help me a lot.....
the super slim may not be the best looking but things shouldn't be about looks because i used to have the regular ps3 and the chip was shit, but i have now a super slim and i'm happy because it's lighter,it's less noise and it doesn't heat too quick
its probably your internet connection because it does not lags at all on my super slim ps3
I have it since september and never had a problem with it :P
Ill take a top loader any day over a mechanical drive that wears out and scratches discs
So does this affect quality of content, like graphics, gaming, watching bluray?
also their is a eject button on the disk try
Don't use this as a tear down tutorial. He misses very important steps, you WILL break tabs off your covers if you don't know how to properly remove them.
already did. pretty sure my ps3 is shot anyhow though. my cat knocked it over last night and now when i turn it on it gets really loud and shuts down after 10 or so seconds. i'm assuming the fan came loss or disconnected so it's immediately overheating. since i have quite a few ps3 games i still like to play, i'm hoping i'll be able to fix it but i'm not that optimistic about it.
The ps3 In the video section looks cleaner and nicer looks like brand new one Japanese edition from japan
True, I miss cramming my PS3 in my shelf but its a sacrifice
The first one feels old,the second was good, and the last one I don't even know....
It's amazing that yet in I'm still satisfied by my ps3
Slim looks great, IMO better than original one, and way better than this "super" slim.
