I have the red PS3 super slim which came with a 500 GB HDD and the god of war games bundled for 199 from Futureshop back when they were still around. It was a great console.
Back in 2015 my parents bought me a SuperSlim for my birthday. I was really exited because up until that point I never had any system that could play modern games; all I had at the time was an old Pentium 4 PC and the only games I could play with it where from the 90s to early 00s, emulated, or indie. I was still happy with those game and I still play them to this day, but having a PS3 opened up a whole new world of posibilities for me. My first game for the system was Dark Souls 1, unlocked all the trophies from that one, I also played some retro compilations like the Sega Genesis compilation, the Monster World compilation, and the Metal Gear Collection, from which I only played the first two game for the MSX (someday I'll play the rest of the games, I swear). Oh yeah, I also played Persona 5, which introduced me to the series proper (before that I had already played the US version of the first game for the PS1... yeah, we don't talk about that one), and has since become one of my favorite JRPGs of all time. Even though in retrospective I didn't play that many games on the console since, well, the games where kinda expensive to me, I still made some great memories, and it's still the best birthday present I've ever received.
The av port is really useful when you have an old audio receiver. Ps3 let you do video via hdmi and audio with the av cables. It was nice to pair it with loudspeakers
Interesting. That's a pretty niece use case although would make me super happy if I was limited in that sense. Fortunately now used 5.1 HDMI receivers are decently cheap.
@@VilifiedOne Well it is a lot easier and cheaper to fix than drives that get stuck with discs, that's why the super slim was released. Anyway I'm not buying any discs for PS4 or PS5 or later, digital is the best option.

I just got one of these yesterday. I had never had a PS3 (skipped that console generation altogether), and didn't have anything after my PS2 until I got the PS4, and now PS5. My friend has had a PS3 for years and he told me he was finally going to get rid of it and give it to Goodwill, so I said I'd take it off his hands since I know there are games that are still exclusive to the console I'd like to try. I didn't actually know which model he had until he mailed it to me and I got it yesterday. Found out it was the Super Slim with the 500 GB hard drive. I've already got a 1 TB SSD ready to throw in there, as well as already having bought a bunch of games and accessories in preparation for getting it. Even though he keeps his stuff spotless, I'll also go ahead and open it up in order to replace the CMOS battery, clean the inside of the system and put in new thermal paste, and of course upgrade the hard drive. I'm actually really looking forward to spending time with this as it'll be a whole new experience for me.
The A/V option is actually extremely underrated, and the main reason I haven't upgraded to an 8th gen system! The PS3 has an option to output video through HDMI, but output the audio through the L/R audio cables, allowing us to hook up the system to speakers without an optical port! My space is quite small, so for my speaker I use a good old Bose Soundlink II situated right under my TV, and this offers vastly improved audio over TV speakers. I use my Wii U like this too! I'm so sad these ports are gone :{
It's almost 2025. And i am going to get this version soon. I don't know why, but i just want to have one for the sake of it. I have ps2, 4 & 5. Knowing i can play 2 games on it too is wicked.
4:50 Words cannot express my happiness at dedicated as breaks in YT vids. I don’t mean for sponsor spots, I mean the standard AdSense breaks. Hallelujah thank you for not interrupting mid sentence to tell me about the damn Big Mac.
I've had trouble with the automatic disc slot on the fat PS3 and the fat PS4. The tray on my fat PS2 also weakened and got stuck late in its life. When my original PS3 bit the dust from YLOD I jumped at the super slim because there were no disc tray/slot that could break. Works great to this day.
My first PS3 was the super slim that came bundled with Uncharted 3. I don't remember much from that time, but what I do remember is that I played the hell out of that console. I beat Infamous 1, Uncharted 1, 2, 3, Killzone 2, 3, basically all the God of War games at the time, Resistance 1, 2, 3, and a crap ton of other games. I currently own a PS3 slim that I bought on ebay last year.
I have the super slim model. Got it on Black Friday 2012 with infamous 1 and 2 and uncharted 1 and 2 bundled. It was a good purchase and I still have it hooked up to my TV alongside my PS4 and Nintendo switch.
I own the console and bought it just before returning to China, because it is the most compact of the 3 and was quite cheap at the time. But I bought the ultra cheap version with 4 GB of hard rive so that wasn't very cool. Luckily was able to get a cheap 500 GB hard rive in China and like you mentioned because the hard rive is extremely easy to access was still able to save some money. I'm still using it to this day and have about 25 or so PS3 games still working on beating. PS3 slim lives on in 2021:)
Ps3 came at an odd time for me. I've been a pretty dedicated gamer all my life, and have been pretty loyal about getting new ps consoles. But after PS2 I'd hit the biggest drought of getting a new console in my life. I played ps3 only as handful of times through the majority of it's tenure, so obviously I saw the other versions but the one I ended up getting was a super slim (very close to the end of Ps3's life span). I agree with your total assessment, but at that time I was just hungering to play a new (at the time) gen console. I still have it and it has downloaded on it a lot of my ps1 favorites, and I can still play ps1 one games like Vandal Hearts that never showed up on the ps store because of it's backwards compatibility. I have a ps5 but for all those reasons my ps3 is still not going anywhere
Never agreed with the idea that this looks cheap, what is the difference between this and any other plastic box? I think in the right lighting it can look very classy. Mine still looks great and I play it all the time!
You know, I never realized that you could use the old AV cable from ps2 on the ps3. My ps3 even came with a old AV cable but i used hdmi instead. i was a bit confused but now i just feel stupid for not realizing it earlier.
I like the Super Slim personally. I just think it gets over-shadowed by the PS3 Slim, which I think most people preferred. The sliding door was a lot of fun to handle back when I had one. Glad to see a video like this looking back one of my personal favourite console revisions
I bought my PS3 Super Slim back in 2013 due to my original FAT version going dead with the yellow light. Man it's been almost 8 years and that little thing is still going strong to this day. I love it and still play it a lot, my only issue is that they removed remote play from it so you can't use a PSP or Vita with it, aside from that it's a fantastic console...great video btw thanks for the content.
Is it really forgotten ? I see a ton of people talk about it here on TH-cam when talking about the PS3. They always talk about how satisfying the sliding door is
The Slim got a badrap in my country. The flimsy plastic disc opener had a habit of breaking or getting very loose. Now I've never met or saw it myself but it was a often metioned complain. Also it looks very very qwantity/mass production style. I personally love it. Yes it doesn't look attractive, but it makes it work so.
What do you mean the only benefit to the PS3 superslim is that it's lighter and smaller? It's also the most quiet PS3. The only sound that comes out of it is the HDD and disc drive.
I assambeled my ps3 super slim with 2 broken ones, one is from a friend and the other was mine, but the rsx gpu stoped working. Now i have a modded ps3 with hen on it and i modified the case for cooling purpouses
There is a reason that the PS3 has av out, HDMI wasn’t very common in 2006 and a lot of people still had CRTs. They kept it on the newer models to keep compatibility with the older models. An added benefit of having that port is being able to play PS1 games and PS2 classic games(or PS2 discs of you have a BC model) on a CRT TV.
Lol, this was the first console i ever bought with my own money, and i enjoyed the hell out of it (even though the ps4 literally launched a month later)
The power draw on those things are ridiculous. You'd literally save money over time getting a newer but more initially expensive TV. HDTVs are suuuuper cheap nowadays.
I never realised this was a thing until now, it's a bit like the weird wii without most of the functionality of a normal wii, that was basically just a box, with a disc drive. I'm curious if this still worked with the original gun con peripherals, if it's still using the original av port, i doubt it but that would be a bit of compatibility if it did work!
Still an owner of the SS 500g : AC3 edition as well as continuing my game/dlc purchases for it. Ps3 library has aged well and has many awesome games you can always go back to. I’ve had the slim Ps3 250g but sold it to save up for the PS4 Arkham knight edition (which I also sold) , the slim was better looking and only gave me minor moments(loud fan , game freezes, felt like an oven when you touched it during long gameplay) but the SS just looks great and has given me no problems plus it looks nice aside your flatscreen . Imo it looks like a ps2 with a smoother sportier look and doesn’t have an appearance of a giant paperweight like the first Ps3 model. Just watching your video made me realize how popular and important Ps3 was to Sony’s console legacy , they created 3 versions of the same console that says a lot about the system and confirms how good it was with a collection of addictive games to co sign for it . Great video and now I’m off to play some Infamous2 .
PS3 Super Slim is the only PS3 I've ever owned, I got it in 2013 and had only been gaming on the 360 and Wii till that point before getting the Super Sim and a year later Nintendo's net console the WiiU
The ps3 was my second console during my childhood. I remember being at school and looking at the clock all day, waiting until it was time to go home and when I got home I just sprinted straight to the TV room and play some of my all time favorites like Ratchet and Clank:A crack in time, Dirt 2, Uncharted,Last of us, Fallout NV and 3, Bioshock, Minecraft, Little Big Planet and like billion more games. While I was going through some of my old stuff in my attic I found all my old games, console, remotes, a bunch of third party accessories I even had that wierd controller with big ball on the front when sony was trying to copy what the wii was doing. It sucks that Playstation does not do the same thing xbox does which is backwards compatibility so I can play some of my classics on the PS5. I think what made the ps3 much better than xbox 360 was the fact you don't have to pay for online. I wish it was the same for the ps4 and ps5 tho

Lol lol lol 4sho
I actually still have mine and I still currently use it along with my PS4 Pro and now the new PS5 that I just bought 😁👍
you're lucky to find a ps5 :( where did you get it
@@DavidNikkiZane GameStop I got lucky
4:15 you can actually go HD with component cables.
Yeah
The A/V option is actually extremely underrated, and the main reason I haven't upgraded to an 8th gen system! The PS3 has an option to output video through HDMI, but output the audio through the L/R audio cables, allowing us to hook up the system to speakers without an optical port! My space is quite small, so for my speaker I use a good old Bose Soundlink II situated right under my TV, and this offers vastly improved audio over TV speakers. I use my Wii U like this too! I'm so sad these ports are gone :{
I have the Super Slim. It's my only working PS3. I just put the HEN hack on it and I'm having a lot of fun.
It's almost 2025. And i am going to get this version soon. I don't know why, but i just want to have one for the sake of it. I have ps2, 4 & 5. Knowing i can play 2 games on it too is wicked.
I actually still have the PS3 super slim right now, purchased Minecraft on it and it still works really well!

@@marioandluigi2000XD nice
Yoooooo Minecraft? Wanna vibe later?
Minecraft on PS3 is unfortunately not the greatest port, the 360 version runs much better. It’s still Minecraft though.
@@EvilTurkeySlices i also have a 360
It was being sold branches for £ 100 in the UK. I snapped one up. It's a purchase I have never regretted and it still works today.
This is the only video I see when I search 91tech I really hope you get your channel back you make great videos Good luck.

Words cannot express my happiness at dedicated as breaks in YT vids. I don’t mean for sponsor spots, I mean the standard AdSense breaks. Hallelujah thank you for not interrupting mid sentence to tell me about the damn Big Mac.
Ad Sense breaks mid-sentence pisses me off
@@aiodensghost8645 bro YES! That’s the most annoying thing ever
I think the super slim was mostly targeted at people who just wanted a blu ray player. Its evident with the addition of a 12gb model with no hdd
I have this ps3 model and I still use mine. So it's not forgotten for me 😅
My slide cover latch broke to where I needed to use tape to keep it closed...
Finally. Someone appreciates my PS3 model
The Phat model PS3 is the best tho but I personally think the super slim PS3 looks ugly but it’s a great system despite the looks
I have this one, and I enjoyed it. I always thought the new disc tray mechanism was cool and satisfying to open
I have the super slim model. Got it on Black Friday 2012 with infamous 1 and 2 and uncharted 1 and 2 bundled. It was a good purchase and I still have it hooked up to my TV alongside my PS4 and Nintendo switch.
Omg same even down to switch and ps4.
That is a composite cable. Component uses 3 cables for video + 2 for stereo audio :)
I have the PS3 Slim. I saw the super slim in Walmart many years ago. I took a picture of it. Never seen one since or in person.
dude i swear nobody knows what i talk about when i talk about the super slim 😭😭😭
Wow
Let them losers
Don't worry, I do because I have it too. I am just happy that I finally have a PS3. :)
Wow there was a button to open it, I slided it every time manually ^^
Lol me too
Will it break the slide?
I bought my PS3 Super Slim back in 2013 due to my original FAT version going dead with the yellow light. Man it's been almost 8 years and that little thing is still going strong to this day. I love it and still play it a lot, my only issue is that they removed remote play from it so you can't use a PSP or Vita with it, aside from that it's a fantastic console...great video btw thanks for the content.
The Super Slim didn’t have remote play?
Mine has remote play
Is it really forgotten ? I see a ton of people talk about it here on TH-cam when talking about the PS3. They always talk about how satisfying the sliding door is
The Slim got a badrap in my country. The flimsy plastic disc opener had a habit of breaking or getting very loose. Now I've never met or saw it myself but it was a often metioned complain. Also it looks very very qwantity/mass production style. I personally love it. Yes it doesn't look attractive, but it makes it work so.
@@ifabianxd1338 I have a super slim myself but I mainly use the slim. I really like my super slim though I think it’s a nice little console
The superslim disc tray will be great in 20 years when the moving trays break down
Still got mine. It is still a great Blu-ray player.
I can't afford a ps4 or ps5 so I'm stuck with this ps3 slim
What do you mean the only benefit to the PS3 superslim is that it's lighter and smaller? It's also the most quiet PS3. The only sound that comes out of it is the HDD and disc drive.
I have one of these, and Im planing on changing out the hard drive
Awesome! You putting in an SSD? I know they get bottlenecked but I'd imagine they're still a good bit better than the old HDDs
I know of someone who put an 2tb in one.thinking off getting mine done.

^ Love using this PS3 to this day👏🏼
I assambeled my ps3 super slim with 2 broken ones, one is from a friend and the other was mine, but the rsx gpu stoped working.
My stepbrother has this model as I have the original PAL 80GB (though I put a leftover 256GB SSD to it). PS3 is still a great console.
Yo he got hacked
I remember buying it for about $80 (12Gb modell) and just installed an old laptop HDD. And basically only to play GTA5
Great video, I do like the Ps3 Super Slim design, to me it looks like a Mini Original Ps3 :)
By the way you probably already know this, but the yellow cable is composite and not component.
I still use the composite cables for my PS3, since I still have a box tv. 😢
Bruh u can do 640x480 at 154 hz im jealous.
I think I have an old flat screen in my garage. Im in Minnesota so I think it will take a while for it to get there
@@ScriptCatz I found the box tv for free on Facebook marketplace a couple years back, it's pretty heavy but it's worth it for the retro games.
The power draw on those things are ridiculous. You'd literally save money over time getting a newer but more initially expensive TV. HDTVs are suuuuper cheap nowadays.
people say the ps3 super slim slide door is cheap, like bro thats not how you put the discs in
I watched this on my ps3 super slim
Yea I totally forgot about the thing sitting next to my TV and PS5
I never realised this was a thing until now, it's a bit like the weird wii without most of the functionality of a normal wii, that was basically just a box, with a disc drive. I'm curious if this still worked with the original gun con peripherals, if it's still using the original av port, i doubt it but that would be a bit of compatibility if it did work!
on crt yea
The main good thing on Super slims is that they also came with 25nm silicon = more efficient, less heat, more reliable
I want one 1 day🔥. I have my FAT since 2008 and someday I buy a Super Slim.
It will just continue getting more expensive
@@markusmitchell8585 I don't care
I have the white PS3 Super Slim - a gorgeous console I wanted so bad. I have had it hooked up every day since 2013.
Ps3 slim ahh yes needed hair loss advertisment because it was a slim model i see what you did there.
I bought my first PS3, the Superslim, last year in January just to play GTA 4, ended up keeping it and I use it a lot.
PS3 Super Slim is the only PS3 I've ever owned, I got it in 2013 and had only been gaming on the 360 and Wii till that point before getting the Super Sim and a year later Nintendo's net console the WiiU
I forgot it had an eject button, I always just slide it open.
