I currently have a Seagate 1TB Solid State Hybrid Drive in my PS3, and I freaking love it. (The SSD in this video is currently in my netbook) You get a whopping 1 THOUSAND Gigabytes and I only had to pay 99 dollars! The most frequently used files are in the SSD partition of it, which I do NOT know how big that is. If you do, PLEASE let me know in the comments, or on Twitter!
I like downloading digital games and NOT having to read from the super slow blu ray drive on the PS3. The PS3 only has a Sata 2 interface, not Sata 3. So that's the bottleneck here. It's quite expensive having a 500GB SSD inside your PlayStation. I'd rather have it in my computer anyways, but damn they are expensive. If you use LESS than 120GB, DEFINITELY go with the 120GB PURE SSD from OCZ. The dashboard (PS interface) loads insanely quick and even retrieving messages is a very fast, compared to before where it would almost look empty for a second, before they would all start to load.

I hope the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox 720 (Infinity) allow us to use SSD's. The Next Xbox is supporting USB 3.0, and I have a SUPER fast (200 MB/s Read 120MB/s Write) flash drive and there is one that's way faster than that!

Side note: pretty sure if your PS3 is a little up to date, not only will it format the drive but will also re-download the operating system. Just so you don’t have to do the hassle of doing all that

You are correct. Done it several times. The operating system is on the 12GB flash memory.

I remember having to do this, it was in October of 2017, my hdd blew up, so I replaced it with a 512GB SSD, and it’s been fine ever since, I had a backup on a flash drive that I just updated last day and it’s worked fine ever since. Keep in mind that I did this on a fat 80GB model

I upgraded both mine an my brothers PS3's to a 1 TB SSD an wow what a difference in speed it makes. I've loaded 40 of my games onto it from disk to ISO and now I don't have to load the disk ea. time. I would say average speed to transfer the game 15 to 20 minutes an on FAT32....that is fast!! All the other reads I've made say that it don't make that much of a difference but it does and I recommend it if it's in the budget.

For the longest time I was using cardboard to hold the HDD in place because I didn't have a caddy. At least 10 years. Every time I would move my ps3 the HDD would dislodge itself from the connector. I just installed a caddy, which I bought for $1, and now I don't have to open the HDD bay to reconnect the HDD whenever I move my ps3.

This is from 2013 so the update he used is outdated but the method to change hard drive is the same

Now you can buy the flash drive that already has the formatting installed for you. Put the new hhd or better ssd in the console, then plug the flash drive in the usb, then there you go🎉😉🎉

Dude, this is so funny to watch now, i can get a 2TB SSD for 150 online now, and back then only 5oogb did cost 500? This comparison is truelly unreal.
I just put a 4tb NVMe ssd in my ps5 and it costed 600 dollars.
@@wwjoshdew ow wow, i think that is a bit overkill. I did just upgrade my PS4 Pro with a 2TB SSD and i dont think i will ever even run out of space with that. But still, 600 for a 4TB SSD is a lot. I hope tech gets a lot cheaper in the future.

Really annoying, that you are kinda forced to upgrade with bigger SSDs because todays games are just that big.

Just a heads-up. When trying to download the Playstation 4.88 version, hit the first download. If you hit the second download option under download via computer it will not work. Someone gave a corrupted file there

Hold the power button when it’s red until you hear two beeps then a power off then turn it back on and it should display this is a video reset

Unfortunately your heart is premature. I regret to inform you that it turns out the PS3 cannot officially read more than 1TB. I was hoping to download every single thing I own, it turns out that's not possible. So, I'm going to change to a 1TB SSD instead.

Hi, my disk compartment os different. I have 4 different screws and there is not a pullable tab but I have a second SATA slot. Any help for this?

I just got a used PS3 Super Slim. While it only has 12GB of flash storage, I heard Super Slims always use SATA III (not SATA II). Without searching online, what's the largest hard drive size this console recognizes? I've heard 1.5TB, but has anyone successfully used a bigger one? I can't find a clear answer anywhere. I'm looking for someone who has tried a really big drive.
512 go for 21 dollars, i just connect two disk in box inateck clone and lets do it. After many hours Ps3 start with ssd and no re-installation.

Hello. Cam you please help me, this is abit above my knowledge, I got the Ps3 super slim for £55 :) I need to swap the 12gb memory for a big memory. I was so annoyed that the ps3 super slim nervous game with a pre-installed bracket now I have to wait another week to have one delivered so unfortunately
