    One of the things I love about this show is how it baits you into enjoying the violence…only to rip you out of that enjoyment with the weight of consequences of that violence. It creates a crazy emotional roller coaster that makes you almost feel guilty. It’s amazing!

    I think one of the things that makes it sooooo great is that fact that, even if you don’t realize it, it is beat for beat a classic Greek Tragedy. In every way. Starting with a “song” to set the tone, a “chorus singing” throughout to keep the pace going, every step forward in the plot being driven by different characters’ “fatal flaws”, moments when you can see the hope and happy ending over the horizon but it’s always too little too late. There’s a great breakdown video that actually goes through it beat for beat that explains better than I do. I’m CONVINCED that is why it hits so hard

  • @VMLM3
    @VMLM3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    What's weird is. There's a number of great characters, and I think Jynx's story is definitely the centerpiece of this show... but I find myself really liking Marcus' story. I don't think I like Marcus himself, but I really like this story of a man that isn't a hero, that isn't especially brave, who doesn't really fit into the role he's given... who is entitled and privileged, who is very smug about his position in the world. I love that he doesn't understand his superior, but then steps into their boots and finds himself completely out of his depth.
    I find that there's a lot to talk about, for example, his admiration of Grayson is interesting... but what does it mean? Is this a man who has finally understood that Grayson was an excellent leader? Or is his admiration just a consequence of his own failing, him saying "She's everything that I'm not".

    • @Erick-tv8oq
      @Erick-tv8oq ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Marcus is one of my favourite characters in the series, because he's just... real. Most of the time corruption in our world is not born out of straight up evil, it's born out of people who are looking out for themselves and those immediately around them, yet never see the big picture, or never get a chance to act as part of it. Marcus seemed to me like a guy who wanted to prove himself by overreaching in a way he thought would protect his side of the world, and when that horribly backfired on him, had to reap the consequences throughout all his life. It's terribly real for a single bad decision to spiral out of control and engulf someone's entire life, and that's exactly what happened to him. He wanted to do good, as shown by his guilty conscience, his throwing of Vi in jail while telling Silco she was dead (I know that wasn't the most thoughtful action, but it did save her life in a way). But he also is a deeply prejudiced man, subtly dominanted by an "Us vs Them" mindset that costs him everything in the end (ever noticed how even after the timeskip he didn't hesitate at all to shoot Ekko, yet couldn't bring himself to shoot Cait?). I think he's a completely normal human whose actions bring the story to motion, yet his existence is so absolutely ordinary he dies the most unceremonious death in the series (couldn't even finish his last words). The most tragic thing is that if he had stayed under Grayson's wing he could have eventually developed into a person who actually sees the bigger picture.
      I don't hate Marcus, because I feel like I could meet him just down the street when corrupt cops come round to collect protection taxes from restaurants and such. And that's a testament to brilliant character writing if anything.

    GOD! I loved it. The plot, the visuals, the animation, the musical score, everything is perfect! I think my favorite part is the emotions, it is so hard to include microexpressions in animation, but Arcane does it so well. The microexpressions make it seem like they're real people, even though I know they're animated characters.

    • @Mairilik
      @Mairilik ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@felixowen2693 I felt like it was appropriate for the situation. If I may relate to ot a bit, I know back when I was in elementary/highschool when I would get in trouble and had to get bailed out by my mom, after getting angry she would similarly talk about her expectations for me. Granted the tragic thing that happens didn't happen to me or my mother thankfully and I did have a father, though he was working 90% of the time so he was pretty absent. I suspect what David's mom was feeling, similar to my mother, was a sense of disappointment for the situation mixed with a sense of pride that her son has a chance to go beyond their means. And to both my mother's credit and David's mother's credit, they worked hard to pay for his schooling so he could make a name for himself. I know my mom still reminds me that we were poor and she worked hard... and I've already graduated from higher education.

    I thought that I’m going to finish the show and never think about it again, but after the last episode I’m WAY too hooked for season 2!
    This show is so atmospheric, it’s visually GORGEOUS, and the filmmakers and animators used the animation to actually portray the story and move the characters, like it’s not just a pretty animation (which is great and a hard work by itself) but also to show us through it the mental illness and show a psychosis character in a way that we feel how exhausted this character feels like…..FILMMAKING!!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
    ANDDDD Also about the story of the two scientists, it’s really amazing because they’re the main subject of the story that no matter what a scientist will do to help humanity, humanity will always find a way to weaponize it. Like, he didn’t wanted to make weapons he just wanted to protect his technology in this world.
    This series is an absolutely a Tragedy, tragedy means ambitions and desires of the hero that doesn’t come true because of the world he lives in, and that’s right about every character in this series!
