For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself. Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.
I apologize for you apparently having lousy neighbors. Theres no way i could sit there and watch an 80 year young neighbor weedeat their yard and not go offer to take care of it for free, however they want it done! If you live in Monroe, La, i’ll come take care of it for you lol.
Not to get all emotional, but Roger sounds and looks very similar to my grandfather who passed in 2007. He never got to see me in my adult life, so watching this felt like getting taught by him, like when I was a kid. Great video ❤
This book is Awesome! I love the Lean-To-Shed the most (page 98). The plan th-cam.com/users/postUgkxe9yi0sulKgsp0VJJCIrLWWkvVqcU7LFR is to attach it to the back of my brick house. I also like how they walk you through the many different steps of construction, which is important for the less experienced like me.
My suggestion for first time user 101. Use the right side of the trimmer head to cut grass, as debris will fly away from you. Using the left side will fly all the debris at your feet and legs at high speed!
jtoon200 he came out there and started showing how to use the trimmer she was already using. Them took up her time with bullshit , then told her to use something else. Why the hell didn’t he finish trimming?
It's crazy to think that electric motors and battery technology have become so good now that some cordless drills, saws, trimmers, etc. are more powerful than most corded power tools, and even some gas powered engines, lighter too.
Funny how much changes in 5 years, I have a battery operated trimmer and it is head and shoulders above in performance vs my old gas trimmer. I trim 2 acres with 1/2 of one battery and I have TONS of trees to trim around plus fences and a bunch of flower beds. Never going back!
I have the Kobalt trimmer with the 80V battery, it is almost as strong as gas trimmer in it's class and mows tall grass without a problem. Don't need to mix gas and oil, which was not an issue I had with gas trimmers, but it solves problems of leaking gas and oil.
Safety first as shown in the video and i find it very helpful whenever i do trimming here in Australia we call them Whipper Snippers which is our slang term for the String Trimmer Strimmer or weed eater or weed whacker for people international and in general
Great video, I didn’t realise they had a propane string trimmer. !Just because I have to comment -straight shaft trimmers are nice left to right and right to left. I noticed with a curve shaft it misses in some spots. I like curved too it’s just the straight shaft trimmers are more consistent in cutting grass equal level of mowing height. I hope it’s a personal preference
I own a curve shaft trimmer but wish I had gone with the straight shaft. If you’re taller than say 5’6” the curve puts the string almost to your own feet. Tall people should go with the straight shaft
Went with a lithium ion powered one last year and will never go back to gas. Powerful enough, lasts long enough, and best of all no fuss - no mixing oil, no ethanol issues, non-stinky, far less noise, significantly lighter weight. I can see still using gas if you have some kind of massive wild growth going on, but for those with normal yards, lithium ion is plenty enough.
thank god roger emerged from the woods to aid this helpless, fragile woman from the confusing and difficult job of waving a spinning string across the ground
ive got a lehr propane trimmer just like that and i love it !!!! quality is amazing , i really like the subaru 4 stroke engine it has amazing low end power ,, just a very well made product for sure , 3 yrs no problems whatsoever , and propane is 101 octane to i found out , very clean running machine im very impressed with mine for sure !!!!!!
I've had an 18V ryobi trimmer on 1 acre. Works fine for me. How much trimming do you have to do? Don't have to worry about mixing oil and gas or maintenance. Less things to worry about. I have a small battery and I never run out of juice, but I have plenty of other batteries if I do.
I worked in parks as a seasonal and there is one rule not seen in this video. Never place the trimmer/edger on the grass. Excess fuel on the tank will kill the grass and the moisture on the grass will cause the metal on the casing to rust.
I remember when you would get a legitimate post or two about the video, now you just read ignorant rants about hearing protection being overrated. Guess some people will not resist learning the hard way...
I am currently in the UK and I have an electric corded lawn mower. Since we have 240v here this thing is actually super powerful and it's a little plastic crap one too.
my advice would be to get a fixed head i got one at home depot for 30$ and also has a brush hog attachment from long grass not sure if its different stronger wire but i only have to replace the lines once and it takes about 30 seconds alot less then a bump feed plus when you bump those off the ground they can leave marks plus over time the spring can break which has happened quite easily
You need arborist helmet and full mesh face mask to safely use a string trimmer. I whipped up a stone that hit my leg with almost the force of a bullet. Had that been your face or eyes, you're going to be injured. TR Industrial Forestry Safety Helmet and Hearing Protection System is about $30 on amaz or home depot. Buy a Milwaukee M18 Fuel String Trimmer. It's the best out there and it's easy to restring it without having to take off the head. Gas trimmers are way too loud and polluting. The 12.0 ah battery lasts long enough to do your entire yard.
Of course, he didn't come back to tell us which brand because 2 years ago there was no such thing and even 2 years later there still isn't. Cordless yard tools are great in theory but they are impractical for medium and large yards. Battery technology is still in the stone ages.
Straight shaft has more power than a curved shaft and you have different options on a straight shaft like a metal blade instead of the traditional string ya know
When using the speed feed head, I hold the outer piece and turn the thinner (upper) inside ring - that way the string does not wrap around your hand when rotating and loading the head with string. Not sure why he thinks the LP trimmer is quieter, its the same internal combustion engine with the same muffler! The LP is more expensive and harder to find to purchase than gas is, plus its extra weight on the trimmer that you have to lug around (especially if you have a lot of trimming to do)! The small premixed 2 stroke fuel cans are EXPENSIVE for what you get! There are also 4 stroke trimmers - you don't have to mix oil and gas, but they are typically heavier. I have yet to view a good training video from (This old house) that was truly accurate and informative the way it should be!
Its probably just old, they dont last forever. Go buy an echo srm-225 for 200 dollars at home depot. Best you gunna get for the money and anything cheaper is not worth the money.
How old is this video? They now have 40v and 56v volt lithium ion cordless trimmers that give near gasoline powered performance without the hassle of dealing with a gas powered lawn tool. There are multiple brands offering these high voltage lawn tools now. Just wanted to update as some of this information is out of date.
William Todd If you look on line most of the consumer gas powered units are finicky to deal with and start people don't know about gas going bad and ethanol eating up the seals in the gas powered engines. The tools come with a 3 year battery warranty, and if it does fail after 5 years if I had to bring in my gas powered trimmer for service its going to cost be at least 70 or 80 dollars. The replacement batteries tend to be around dollars for a replacement battery pack. I personally think for the general consumer a battery powered unit is the way to go. I know you don't mind tinkering with gas powered equipment, and that's fine i still have a gas powered snow blower and lawn mower than needs maintenance and it does get annoying at times, but I get it done anyways so I will get the longest possible life out of the unit.
William Todd I never implied that for commercial work these were viable tools. It's an option for a home owner that does their own lawn that wants a fairly hassle free tool that is easy to use. Don't take it personally your that kind of person that does take care of their tools and knows how to do basic small engine maintenance. Sadly most people don't have that skill set anymore. I learned to do mine own maintenance and repairs after getting quotes on taking something in to be repaired. My Honda HRX mower and ToroPower max snowblower run full synthetic oil that is changed often.
well, fyi, i wouldnt trust some electric thing with a brushcutter head or attachment. not enough power, when the battery runs down, u have to charge. much easier to quickly fuel up and go again with a constant flow of power. no offense, but i hate electrical tools. soon enough people like u will have the world running on electricity 30x more than it is now
Danny Hensley the 40 volt batteries can last about 35-40 minutes. buy 2 or 3 batteries. personally I'm not swinging a trimmer more than 30 minutes at a time anyway. the 40 volt is so much quieter than gas and no more smell.

All these vids about stream trimmers advise you to "bump the head" to advance more line. But they don't tell you the dirty secret behind that mechanism. Every time you do that, it cuts off a little bit of the line and leaves that piece of plastic in your yard. Yeah. Old video but the new 36 V or even 54 V are not that less powerful than gasoline.
Problem with the gas small engines is that they outright lied about the power output.
