    How to lead a guild:
    Step 1: Don't.
    Step 2: Be a normal guild member, get access to the bank.
    Step 3: Loot the bank, burn the bridges, and go join some other guild.
    Step 4: See step 2.

    How to lead a guild:
    Step 1: Join an existing guild
    Step 2: Be good at the game and occasionally speak in chat without being a dick and making enemies
    Step 3: When inevitable guild drama comes up stay out of it
    Step 4: When higher ranking members leave or get kicked due to drama or whatever, get promoted by default as the higher ups scramble to minimize the appearance that anything is wrong
    Step 5: After enough time the guild master will lose interest or have drama with their friends and fuck off, leaving the spot open for you to inherit it
    Step 6: You are now a guild master despite not doing shit aside from playing normally and eating popcorn when guild chat drama happens
    Step 7: When the guild eventually completely falls apart due to you not knowing how to run it, disband it and noone will blame you since you inherited a bad situation
    Step 8: Join a new guild as an 'veteran guild officer' and start way closer to being a GM this time
    Step 9: Rinse and repeat

    My ex and I joined a guild a while back on wow when we were still together. I was a tank and she was a healer. We didn't say we were dating in guild chat because that felt like it was just unnecessary. It was extremely entertaining how the leader continuously took an interest in her and would regularly exclude me from mythic groups. She and I would be in the same room on our laptops, so I'd ask him why I couldn't join. "No room sorry". Meanwhile he would be messaging her that he was trying to find a tank. I thought maybe I just wasn't great as a tank, but I constantly was getting snatched up by other guildies. Finally he told her "I just don't like him". In the end the dude SERIOUSLY ASKED HER TO BE HIS ONLINE GF. I told her I had a feeling that was gonna happen. When she told him she and I were dating, he kicked both of us out and like 10 other people followed us lmao

    I did that for years in Dofus. I hated it. People have too much drama and people always joining just to beg for free items and leveling. Some of the people were cool. In that game, a lot of people would put "spies" (anonymous alts) in other guilds to see how many of their guild were online or busy. We'd find guilds with hardly anyone on and attack their "tax collector" centaurs that they paid to put in different areas. The tax collector would get drops from mobs killed near it, and the guild or attackers would get those items. Guild members could join the centaur in pvp from anywhere if it was attacked, so it was good if they were sleeping

    I was in a guild that was small, and during wrath the guild leader wanted to so Ony25. Sadly we could only field a 10man team so he looked around and found another guild who wanted to run Ony25 as well but they were a few people short. So our 10man team, the ones online, supplemented the rest of the roster, our main tank, the two healers and few of the dps. The raid leader stipulated that anyone doing under 4% of the total damage would get 25 pts deducted from all rolls on loot. A bullshit rule but the guild leader was insistent on us running. So we entered the raid, no fuss no muss, we managed to down Onyxia. Now comes the loot. the 2H sword drops. I wanted it. Im sitting there on my ret paladin and I roll, knowing full well I was going to get the bullshit roll reduction. So it was three of us, two warriors from the other guild and me, the ret paladin.
    I roll high, so high in fact, even with the 25 pt deduction I still trounce both warriors. I won the roll, even with the odds stacked against me, I won it legit fair and square. The chat lit up like a christmas tree. people calling me filthy names, people demanding the sword be given to one of the warriors, they "deserved" it. Typical nonsense. even the warriors were livid. for like 20 min the chat was like a field of howler monkeys screeching and throwing poo in my direction. finally, my guild master steps up "They won the roll, they won the sword, clear as day." My guild master has been in whispers with the raid leader discussing the situation. The raid leader and loot master relented. The sword dropped into my bags. After the rest of the loot was distributed, the guild members pitched in to get it fully gemmed and enchanted. I wore that sword proudly in Dalaran, and its still in my characters bank to this day. A little female draenei paladin had won the day.
    Thats the sort of guild you want to be in, not some shitty guild that steals gear from pugs while trying to take the high road pretending to protect their guild mates.

    • @bcn1gh7h4wk
      @bcn1gh7h4wk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      just a few weeks ago I was on a raid with my guild, and we agreed to randomly throw the loot around, so we all get around, the leader throws the item, it goes to me, I don't see the notification and I say to the leader "hey, throw it at least three times so it's legit, otherwise it may always go to you" because I thought it had bounced back to them.
      then the circle starts saying "well, *you* got it dummy!", so I give it back, and we agree to go again.
      so, they throw it again, it goes to the co-leader... and she's like "well, I have one already, do we skip this one?", and they're all "alright, throw it again, best out of three, whomever gets it this time, keeps it."
      "for real?", "for real, last time.".... so she throws it, .....and it goes back to the leader.

    Guilds can be a blast. You just have to either find a good one.. or choose to maintain a guild space a group of you genuinly enjoy. Our Guild started with 5 members. 2 years later we had 100 members.. out of those 100 members about 50 used discord and got to know each other well. A bunch of drama later happened, resulting in many leaving for one reason or another. Now our Guild is approx 35 members. Those 35 were members who enjoyed the community created and invested time in eachother. We still play together and enjoy our time. Sometimes you have to get 100 people in there to find the 35 who are similar enough to keep going. If a group is drama let them go.. there will always be another tank, healer, etc out there just as good, if not better! You don't have to accept the drama.

    The irony of this video is that the guild I was in, ( Lord Mobile) we took the fifth option and were highly successful. We had a large guild in the top five of our server. Our guild leader was famous for how chill and nice she was. Malicious assholes and manbabies were booted after 2 chances. Most of our higher ranked members were chill and competent, leading to an overwhelming positive game experience. The guild ran very smoothly with members ironing out most issues amongst themselves. We didn’t even have to poach other players as they saw how good we had it so we were constantly bombarded with applications.I can say this with confidence as I was the vice leader and my wife was the guild leader.We set up the guild with 15 other like minded players. The key is effective screening of members. As asmongold says, the social structure matters just as much if not more.

    It's been my experience that all really good guilds can trace their origins back to one or two awesome moments when they are just getting started. For mine It was a combination of a plethora of onyxia wipes in a semi pug that turned into a kill suddenly when all the shit people left. It was a huge rush when we killed a boss with half the people and it made people trust each others skills and want to play together. Later on in molten core I also overrode the previous 'raidleader' when they called a wipe on domo after one of the tank swaps went a bit dodgy but I could tell they were pussying out so I took over and said fuck that shit and told everyone what to do and .. lo and behold I was guild leader like the next fucking day.
    None of that shit was me doing it on my own .. But those two awesome moments got us past that fly by night stage and made people commit to the team. And when we went into mc and zg and started kicking ass and killing boss's we became friends through that. You don't have to be perfect but you gotta have the chops for it. And also not play a dps. Most people are dps. The tanks and healers are everyone's bros. The dps is just competition for the vast majority of the guild. If you're good you'll be resented if you're bad you wont be respected.
    Tldr : Most guilds fail because people try and force it to happen. Wanna really be a gm? Just be good enough at the game to impress people every now and then. No one's going to give a shit about you if you don't give them a reason to.

      @@Psilocybin77 Hey I'm totally shit at the game now and I don't mind admitting it and most of those awesome moments came about due to the actions of others more than me. Luck put me at the head of it. But every word I just wrote is 100% true. All I had to do in the onyxia fight was stand in front of a dragon and not die. And the major-domo fight was more me making a lucky gamble than any kind of sherlock internal calculus bullshit. My point is those are the moments that galvanize a guild. And you can't force them to happen.
      Those people and I played together for years right through from Vanilla to Warlords of Draenor. And I've never been in or led a guild before or since that had a better atmosphere. And you can trace it all back to those early moments.

    I lead a guild for two expansions that had literally only two instances of bad people and it was taken care of swiftly. My old guildies still message me and ask me to play with them. The only reason the guild fell apart was because bfa was shit. We were a guild full of randoms that somehow actually got along. We went from 4 irl friends to 50+ active members and we crushed it.
    Before/after that all the guilds I was in were full of whiny assholes.

    3:47 in "guild" I was in PSO2, person who took everyone's time was "guild" leader, who took the game too serious. We were sending him reports, to his e-mail, about things we achieved during the week. He fined us for days in offline or skipped events even if they were in early morning. He was constantly trying to get everyone to use additional HP stats for some insane tank builds, which are unnecessary in PSO2. You died during run of "raid" with guild? You should write an explanation of what your mistakes were, which lead to death on a "guild" message board. People started to leave guild after a month of this...

    • @Wellshem
      @Wellshem 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      An entire month ? It's funny how some people can last in these hell holes. Everytime someone speak trash to me, I talk back, and if that turn into a drama, I just leave and get another guild lol

  • @dazeen9591
    @dazeen9591 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Every guild I've been to. Usually they had like 25-50 guys in the guild but out of all those people there was only basically me and like 4 other guys who actually were active and talked a lot.
    So basically it was just a 5 man guild and damn. Every guild I've been to just died out of nowhere once 2 of those people just for some reason stopped showing up. Then 2 people leaving led to 2 more leaving so I was always alone. And turns out all those 20-45 or so randoms who never talked also suddenly stopped playing. They just go offline for 3 months and then the guild is dead.
    And worst of all, to actually recruit more people to those guilds, your guild had to be "active", otherwise it wouldn't show up in recommended guilds so if you wanted new people... you wouldn't get them. So a dead guild would permanently stay dead. Sad times.

    I was member of an Old Republic guild. It was a "do all" kind of guild and they had many interesting things to do. I became a recruiter, because in order to get a better job there you needed to at the very least be a recruiter and do a good job. They even kept scores for how many you invited and how much time the invited ones stayed in the guild. And eventually I became what was known as a "Battlemaster Defender". So. In the open maps there are republic bases and imperial bases, and to avoid being raided there by those nasty PvPers, you had some broken npcs on your side, but one of said npcs wasn't that broken, he was a field boss known as Battlemaster, and my job was essentially making sure that I would stay by the republic battlemaster, so if a dark side guild came over I was to pull aggro from them, so they would have to deal with me, and 100% of the time that meant aggroing the defender npcs that could one shot the entire party, and keep them from defeating the battlemaster defender, allowing only OUR dark side guild do the bosses.
    I must admit, people hated us, of course they would, we were one of the only ones that actually made schedules and set Battlemaster Defenders on a regular bases on many planets of the game. And I'd do it again. Not even by being in a guild, just to be a dick.

    There is another way to become guild leader without following these guide
    1. First join some guild and gain enough trust to become high ranking officer or second in command
    2. Build relationship with other prominent member either with friendship, benefit, or "promise better future of the guild"
    3. Ignite some drama & build some distrust/discontent for current leader. but make sure you dosent look like the one start it and looks like the reliable second in command who keep peace in the guild.
    4. Start a coup agains current leader preferably when leader mess up something big and many guild member upset
    5. Finish! either take control of the guild and all of its resources or take most of the member away to other guild.

    I dont really think just suddenly deciding making a guild is ever a good idea. Just let it be an organic thing that you came up with some group of people you met along the way just playing the game and having fun. That was the case for me in FF14. We were just having a blast collecting MGP in Gold Saucer for weeks and weeks and someone decided to make a guild and we all joined in the next couple days. You really just gotta feel out the ground first imo. 99% of the time it wont work if you join a random guild as a random person. Too many styles and personalities out there. Rarely anyone is flexible enough to feel good and happy with even 10% of the people they meet irl or online.
