Definitely on my bucket list. I live in Morelia, another beautiful colonial city …but have yet to get to Oaxaca. The food culture there seems so much more interesting than here in Morelia. A friend of mine lives in Oaxaca and has recently been concerned that it’s become way too touristy.
What a beautiful restaurant with a gorgeous view & vegan & organic dishes !!!!? I LOVE IT !!! Lol I'm hoping one day soon I can visit there !!! 😍👍👍👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶🇲🇽💕💞
Love the video! They have excellent restaurants there!!! Noticed the Airbnb's seem pricey, but maybe a good start to find a place to rent or buy. Thanks!!!
I pay 8,500 pesos a month(about $500) for rent on a nice apartment in Oaxaca city about five blocks from the Walmart. It is a nice place and quiet most of the time. However, there are no parks that I know of near me.
This was an excellent, well shot, and informative video. I really liked that you included the costs of living there and interviewing people on their experience in living in Oaxaca :)
This was a very informative video. I’m going to spend 4 months this winter in a town called Soledad Etla. About 12 miles from Oaxaca center. I don’t know anything about it really but I just took a chance and booked it. It was cheap, and the host seems really nice. (Homestay) I didn’t want to spend much money sleeping as I’m really going for the food and laidback Mexican culture.
Dear amigo : my wife (Canadian born) and myself (Uruguayan born) are about to retire and we are looking to do it in Mexico, particularly in Veracruz. We really like your approach on the information on this video and wonder if you have any knowledge of that particular port city. Greetings from Toronto.
Very informative video! The moment I thought "yeah, but what about..." you were covering it. Looking forward to seeing more of this community. This region has been on my must-check-it-out list for a while and I think you just bumped it up a notch or two. Quick question on rentals: if I'm looking for something for 1 - 3 month trial residency, is it best to talk with a local real estate agent, walk the streets looking for private rentals, check out airbnbs? What's your recommendation?
This ia an amazing Video. Most informative and well researched. Most appreciated. Just hope this place doesn't become Californicated. What resources (besides Facebook) are available to the expat community? Thank you, Jim.
Great video. However it would be nice if you could share the names of some of the places you frequented. For example the name of your favorite coffee shop, that cool rooftop restaurant with the spiral staircase. I will be in Oaxaca in a month and would love the opportunity to support these locally owned business that you recommend (in addition to finding many of my own discoveries) I just need to know the names so I can try the places you praised. Would be appreciated.
Digital nomads are those who do their work through the internet, expats are people who have decided to live in another country and are commonly retired seniors.
Was there for three weeks in June. Not as cheap as I expected. Need to be flexible and know someone to get a good rental. Would go back in winter but summer was miserable with no AC
No ac no Thanks no place is more comfortable than home in USA most of all near southern California coast line Mexico hummmm sabroso and delightful but but not too cheap any more even with Dollar you coming back a few thousands dollars less.
At just past the six-minute mark, you enter a three-story restaurant (coffee shop on first floor) with great view and interview a couple having breakfast. What’s the name of this establishment? Street? Also, elsewhere you visit a business where you can chose a vinyl album to be played on the stereo: what’s that places called? Thanks so much. Enjoyed your two videos. Have visited Oaxaca once during Day of the Dead during a two week birding trip that included many other places including Huatulco, San Jose del Pacifico, Tehuanteoec, Teotitlan, and various high-elevation areas near Oaxaca City.
I don’t know anything about it, but i booked a Homestay room in Soledad Etla for 4 months this winter. It’s hard to find much about the town, but it’s a rural town of about 4000. The ad for the room said, “non tourist” town. I took the chance and booked it. I’m an American, but I’m not going to Mexico to hang out with Americans or Canadians.
@@jackbaldwin3649 Many expats LOVE it here but I dont. It's way too hot and humid for me. I got stuck here during covid and it was better than other countries to be stuck in. The main benefit is the one year retirement visa. Very easy and no proof of a certain income. They assume if you have money to get here that you have money to live here. I have not left when i wanted to due to health issues. The doctors here are good(read reviews before going to clinics or hospitals as quality can vary greatly)and i had 3 hernia operations that were excellent and ~$700. There really is not much to do but i dont drive. My western apt is $300pmo with electric and food is cheap and healthy. I cook in. Cheers
So there only expats, nomads, retirees, but no migrants or immigrants? Lol I’m sure us as Mexicans who are citizens don’t ever call you expats. Nor does our government.
Por favor could you tell is it safe for a Solo female traveler to come to Oaxca? And which neighborhood or zone would be a safer area to stay in a Airbnb or Casa?
I'm in the process of expanding my TH-cam channel, and I believe that a collaboration between us could offer a fresh and exciting perspective to both our audiences. Your expertise in accomodation expenses aligns perfectly with my vision, and I think we could create something truly unique and engaging together. I have some specific ideas in mind that I'd love to discuss with you, but I'm also open to hearing any thoughts you might have. Please let me know if you'd be interested in exploring this opportunity further. I genuinely believe that our collaboration could lead to something inspiring and beneficial for both of us.
Hey There. Do you have an email address where you can be contacted? I did search on my own with no success. I have a question, but I would rather ask through a business email. Thank You
1900$ USD a month is not enough for aibrnb plus food - eating out all the time, plus all other expenses???...unless you eat the corn+mayo they have on the streets... what about transport, meds, etc etc... eating out is very unhealthy, please don't do it - they cook with cheapest oils and it's a lot of grease involved and corn/wheat flour (tortillas).
I've lived in Mexico too, $1900.00 is alot of $$, I lived way cheaper than that and w a large family, too. I had my kids in private school (academic school, not daycare). Costs for all day was $125.00 8am- 6pm, includes fresh food from scratch cooked by teachers themselves, breakfast, lunch, snacks, and materials, and potty training. Reg medical, my doctor visits cost under $3.00 US $$, no wait time, includes a physical. My older kids tuition (bilingual education) was $225 per month 7am-7pm, food is included, tuition covers karateTae Kwan Do 2x wk and ballet 2 x wk. My rent for a very large apartament was $400. It was the happiest time of my kids lives, 2 yrs of cultural emersion and every summer we go back. We just returned from Oaxaca, 1 wk ago, I took my kids on all the tours we can get, we visite archeological sites, mercado, textile rug shops, natural springs for swimming (hierve el agua), churches, artesans, etc. Next summer they're trying a robotics summer class and a summer program focused on art & academics. When my son fell and cut his head open & needed stitches (happened off school premise), the student insurance (included in the registration), paid for all the medical costs.
Are you kidding me? The corn in mexico is the best, and the manteca too. AMLO has rejected the genetic corn from Monsanto, we are proud of our corn, its in our blood. Eating out on the street is the best tasting food. Tacos, tortas, tamales, u name it. 😋
I'm heading to Oaxaca for the month February, with an eye to living in Mexico 3 to 6-months of the year. How safe is it to drive in and around Oaxaca? How safe is it to drive to Mexico City?
Out of the 25 or so places I've spent time in Mexico, Oaxaca is my favorite, followed closely by Puebla and Guanajuato
I love your appreciation for Mexican art and culture. Great video.
Like your videos, straight to the points, no fluff. Greetings from lovely Cancun!

Wonderful video! I'm planning to move to Oaxaca next month and this has been by far the most informative video I've seen! Thank you for sharing
You are bouncing around all the time. Too cool
Great video!
Great tour Jim!! Thank you! Good to see you again. Any thoughts on the health care available in Oaxaca?

How is the water supply? Where does it come from?
Another impressive and informative video. You, by far, do the best informational content on travel that I’ve seen on TH-cam or TV. Keep it up!

why are the mexican or any other moving to US Canada or Europe not called expats or digital nomads ?
Digital nomads are those who do their work through the internet, expats are people who have decided to live in another country and are commonly retired seniors.
so true
How far are you from the ocean

Is Mexico safe travelling for 1st time this year slightly confused
Mexico isn’t a cheap Place anymore. The dollar is weak plus their Mexican peso stronger.
No ac no Thanks no place is more comfortable than home in USA most of all near southern California coast line

The funky cool fresh, place the lady showed , is too expensive
We want to explore Oaxaca as a possible home base. Would like to be away from crowds and tourists any suggestions?

It looks nice but a bit pricey for me. I live in Cambodia.
How do you like it there? Have you lived there long? Cambodia is my list to see.

is it really this expensive to rent??1900 dollars???
Are the restaurants no smoking?
In Zipolite and Puerto Escondito they do allow smoking.
So there only expats, nomads, retirees, but no migrants or immigrants? Lol I’m sure us as Mexicans who are citizens don’t ever call you expats. Nor does our government.

Are the living prices per person or a couple?
What neighborhood?
What’s the name of that restaurant with vegan options?

Is there a solid reason there are so many people still wearing masks? This was recorded around August 2923 yes?
Someone tell them…..masks don’t work,it was a scam
These prices are similar to prices in Missouri.
Minus the shoveling snow off the sidewalks
Welcome in new immigrants, not expats!!!
It was to expensive for us and the new government is very scary now be careful things are changing in Mexico
Easily one of my favorite places in Mexico, however not terribly cheap. Part of the ongoing colonization of Mexico by gringos 😢😢.
That's funny how much attention to the food, the most important activity for some? You guys don't cook at home?? Like simple pleasure??
2 kilos per year
Please stop promoting Uber for Oaxaca city. If you care about the Oaxacan people’s livelihood.
KIND OF expensive for Mexico ,
To hot
